  1. I don't have a link - this is from sporting news daily - a daily PDF email I get from The Sporting News.

I don't think this means much...and I suspect Locker will go pro..I just thought you might be interested in this comment:

"Washington coach Steve Sarkisian told reporters Tuesday he's "very optimistic" that QB Jake Locker will return to the Huskies for his senior season rather than enter the NFL draft. Sarkisian met with Locker on Monday to discuss his draft prospects. Locker has submitted a request to the NFL for evaluation of his draft status. The deadline for players to enter the draft is Jan. 15."
  2. Who's David Gettleman? He's the current Director of Pro Personnel for the NY Giants. He was man Ernie Accorsi recommended for the Browns GM position before they went ahead and hired someone from Baltimore...

Why would he be such a good fit here? He got his start in the NFL when he was hired by Bill Polian and was employed with the Buffalo Bills from 1986-1992 (remember those years?)...

"At about the same time, he read an item in The Sporting News that said Polian was the new director of pro personnel for the Buffalo Bills. He wrote Polian a letter, asking for an internship. Polian invited him to Buffalo for an interview. At the same time, his hometown Patriots had internships available in both personnel and public relations. The personnel position was quickly filled and Gettleman interviewed for the public relations internship. But he was far more interested in personnel, so he pursued the Buffalo position. The Patriots' personnel internship went, ironically, to Sternfeld, who stayed with New England in a variety of capacities until joining the Giants in 2002.

Gettleman enrolled at St. Thomas University in Miami, where he attended Dolphins games and sent information back to Polian. After earning his degree, Gettleman moved to Buffalo, where he spent the 1986 season scouting college games as an intern. "I was making $150 a week and I was married," Gettleman said. "Joanne had, for us, a pretty good job so we were making ends meet. They asked me to stay after the season ended and I was making $4 an hour.

"After the draft Bill calls me in his office and he says, 'How would you like a job?' I said, 'Where do I sign up?' Then I asked, 'How much?' and he said, 'Eighteen thousand dollars and that's it.' I said, 'Well, let me talk to Joanne.' I went home and said, 'I have good news and I have bad news, the good news is they offered me a job, the bad news is it is for eighteen thousand.' The kicker is that Joanne was pregnant. So I went back and they gave me a company car so I took the job."

Gettleman was the Bills' scout for the BLESTO scouting combine for most of his tenure in Buffalo, which ended in 1992. He then went to work for BLESTO but disliked having no team affiliation."

So you have the recommendation of one of the best GMs in NFL history, you have the ties to the Bills glory years. It seems to me that this is the guy that the Bills should be targeting to right the ship.

Who's the coach going to be? My guess is that he'd hire a guy like Jim Harbaugh. Tough as nails, knows the pro game, knows the QB position. I think that Harbaugh has a good chance to be the next Jeff Fisher or Bill Cowher. A former player turned head coach who has a real passion for winning.

I think this approach might be even better than hiring Mike Shanahan who was a real dope when it came to hand picking players for his roster which turned out to blow up in the Bronco's faces more often than not. Remember Maurice Clarrett? Plus, do you really want someone that you have to bribe and is only coming here for the money?

So there you have it. Hope someone from the Bills heeds my advice and takes a look at this guy for the Bills GM.

Thank you for posting this. I have thought that if I had the choice to pick anyone to be the GM, it would be to take a stab at pulling Accorsi out of retirment - which would be such a long shot it's not really worth discussing. I was not familiar with Gettleman, but I do like him as a candidate. I would want to know who he would want to target for a coaching staff before pulling the trigger...but yeah...if it was announced tomorrow that he was named the GM, I would not be the least bit disappointed.

  3. Shoot, I'd take the "Chin" over most others, he would make the Bills a winner.

This franchise needs an offensive overhaul, but I'd think Cowher is smart enough to find the proper talented assistant coaches and he is a shrewd player talent evaluator.

I highly doubt he will take anything other then the Carolina job tho.

I thought we stopped calling him "chin" since he had the 40 extra teeth put into his mouth. I thought his new name was "Tooth".

  4. I think Cowher is a fool to not at least sit down and listen to what the Bills have to say.

In my opinon - you should always at the very least hear what a prospective employer has to offer.

If he is sitting back waiting to get the Carolina job....what's to say that the Panthers don't turn this thing around and win out and make the playoffs. If that were to happen, I don't see the Panthers firing John Fox. (Listen....I don't foresee that happening...I do expect Fox to be out at the end of the year)....but the point is..you never know...and here is an opportunity for Cowher and he isn't even giving it a looksee - because of what he "thinks" may be a bad situation in Buffalo - or a better opportunity elsewhere that hasn't actually been placed before him?

Just doesn't make any sense to me.

  5. OTR, while not officially announced by the Bills, the word from his agent has been a 8-9 month recovery estimate

ooof. Good grief...this guy is probably the first guy the Bills have had that I am a "TRUE FAN" of since Kent Hull and Jim Ritcher. Now this. What a shame.

  6. without having to read through this entire thread and having to read anymore juvenile crap from "zazie".....and without opening a new thread..can anyone say if there is a recovery time line for this injury Eric Wood suffered?

Is he expected to be 100% for mini camp? Is there any report that it could be career ending? I am not suggesting it is...I am just asking.

  7. not saying Fewell is a front-runner, but what happens if team shows progress under him?

The overwhelming sense from the fan base is that he would just about have to win out, and not just win - but show that they can handle teams - and not just back into or "trip" into a win. At no fault of his...I just can't see either one of those things happening. At BEST - I see the Bills winning 4 more games, and that is a bit of an exaggerated stretch.

  8. with all due respect, i do not have the time to look for links in the midst of writing breaking news.

and i won't break news on this site because that's not part of my job description. i thought it important enough to provide a hint that something was coming so that others could start looking for it.

    i realize there's a tease factor involved.

if you'd rather i not start a post indicating there is news coming, then i'll not do so in the future. my apologies in advance, then.

    jw

jw - i have been around a while...(but have not posted much recently) I was not familiar with who you are until today....and within a few brief posts can see that you have more credibility than most...so - yeah...you just go ahead and keep posting as you have and don't let the post of a single other person prevent you from providing the rest of us good information and and good teases as well...that is what keeps me coming back.

  9. I think Brandon has his finger on the pulse of the the Bills Fan Nation and he knows that any thing less than a Big Name Coach - is going to mean a collapse of season ticket sales. He isn't a football mind but he is a good business and marketing mind....I am confident the choice they make to bring in to coach this team will be one 80-90% of the fans will be behind.

  10. GM-Marc Ross

    HC-Russ Grimm

**I don't buy the fact that just because you are/were a great coach that you will make a great GM, which is what we need more than anything right now. Just my opinion..

I agree with this - and the same is true with a Coach and a GM.

Coahes that were great once, are only as great as the players he has, and past successes don't guarantee future success.

With a GM - well....we all know how that story line can develop...I don't think there was a single person disappointed when Ralph brought Tom Donahoe in. I don't if there was anyone that didn't think he was the messiah for the franchise.

It's all a crap shoot - unless you have good players.

  11. OK then, go 8-0 at Home...Or 7-1 at Home and 5-3 on the Road...

One step at a time...For God's sake we have not been to the Playoffs in a decade and you're worried about Home Field?...Baby steps...

uummmmm...no...I am not worried about the playoffs at all...you were the one that brought home field during the playoffs.

Heck..I am just happy with a team that is competitive.
