  1. What's wrong with Brian Billick besides the fact that he's not Bill Cowher?

I think his coaching W-L record is nothing to write home about.

    1999 8-8

    2000 12-4

    2001 10-6

    2002 7-9

    2003 10-6

    2004 9-7

    2005 6-10

    2006 13-3

    2007 5-11

    Over all: 80-64 .556

    Yes...his coaching record is better than Dick Jauron's - but who's isn't?

I would rather take my chances on a guy that has not coached - and roll my dice that we have the next best "new guy!

  2. Just watched the 12:00 sportscenter and Schefter said his sources say Cowher to go back to CBS. He and Mort were very delicate in saying that even though Wilson has shown he is finally willing to spend money that Cowher is in the end going to hold out for a better position.

Don't kill the messenger just repeating Schefter and Mort. Schefter generally is pretty right on with his sources as compared to Mort and others guessing.

I am disappointed - but not the least bit suprised.

  3. which is why buffalo will take a qb in rd 1 or 2... that or trade for kolb....

Is this something that has been mentioned with regularity on this board? I only ask, because last night as I was watching the Eagles/Cowboys game I was thinking the same thing.

If McNabb plays well and the the Eagles advance a few games into the playoffs....I would offer Lynch straight up for Kolb.

I don't know if that would fly..I don't even know if it is a good offer for us or a better one for them...all I know is Kolb is a guy I would target - if McNabb plays well in the playoffs.

If McNabb stinks it up this week like he did yesterday, I don't think there is anyway the Eagles move Kolb.

  4. with the rumors coming out two days ago that the Bills were "back talking with Cowher"...and he was impressed with the team....(who knows if any of that actually took place)....but maybe if it did. - perhaps...Cowher spoke Marty - who coached under Marty in K.C. (i think) and convinced him....the Bills were hiring Nix and he advised the Chin - it is a good hire and he would be a good match.

    Who knows.

  5. What I really like:

    Eric Wood

    Jairus Byrd

    Brian Moorman

    Rian Lindell

    What I like:

    Fred Jackson

    Shawn Nelson

ETA: I love the anticipation of this off season. I have been very sceptical in the past -but for some reason this year, I have a sense the organization is going to take the steps to reorganize this front office and coaching staff. I know that not everyone will be happy when the changes are made, myseld included - by I am excited about the possibilities.

  6. I saw this online today:

-- James Hardy Sees Action --

    Tue Dec 29, 2009 --from FFMastermind.com

The Buffalo News reports Bills WR James Hardy saw his first game action this season and caught one pass for 9 yards Sunday in Atlanta. "He did show us some things," interim HC Perry Fewell said of Hardy. "We expect James to play this week."

Oh really... ...what  ...exactly..... ...did he.... ...show you?

  7. I would go Bradford. Best QB in the draft.

BTW, I think Okung and Davis are better OTs, so I assume they're off the board, right?

I think this pick would be second guessed all day long until we see him line up as a starter on opening day...but I agree...I think he will slide and will be the best avail. QB the draft. The biggest problem is the Bills OLine being able to keep him upright.

  8. I respectfully disagree with your assessment of Lee Evans. I felt that another big receiver would compliment him and allow him to make the big plays we were accustomed to, when we had a QB that could sling the rock 50yds. We have two QBs that couldn't get the ball downfied, and when they did, on a rare occasion, a lot of balls had to go TO's way. He is the outspoken superstar.

I feel that at the end of yesterdays game, we go a little bigger sample of what Lee is capable of doing. He goes after the ball and makes great catches. He makes plays. You need to throw the ball towards him...in his general vicinity, and he will make a play. Fitzy didn't throw on good pass to him yesterday, and he was going after it. I don't think he is getting enough looks. Sadly enough the Harvard man, and the Stanford man couldn't figure out what the Tulane man figured out....throw the ball to Lee. If he was on the Colts or Saints, it would be game over.

I was about to call fan services and report AVP and Fitzy for ruining my fan experience. A QB worth a damn on this roster with a real NFL OC, and we are in the AFC Playoff hunt. I know that will be blasted and we can blame Whitner, Poz, Lynch, but let's be honest those guys at least have talent, and with some more talent around them, you may see some synergism. I am not interested in getting rid of our proven talent, only to see them be perennial Pro-Bowlers in another city.

I think we should draft a big defender, best front 7 guy around in the 1st round, then grab OT in 2nd. Our OL blows, no secret, but our front 4 on defense are embarrassment. Kelsay/Denney, Schobel, Stroud and Williams....KW is the only one I would miss.

I admit I have overstated my displeasure with this organization.

However there are a TON of problems with this front office and roster - and as a long time fan for more than 35 years...I am sick of watching a poor product.

It wasn't my intent that the entire team should be replaced - nor the spots that need to be upgraded be changed all at one time.

  9. We will definitely need to. But sadly, looking at Sanchize's recent struggles with NYJ, and Flacco's sophmore slump (notwithstanding his big game against the Bears last night), and disappointments (busts?) like Jamarcus Russell and Brady Quinn, finding a durable, consistent franchise QB who can make an immediate impact will be a challenge.

The single hardest thing to do in the NFL.

It is such a roll of the dice every single time.

Think about how teams had to spend time considering between Manning and Leaf.

And Bledsoe and Mier. I wouldn't want the pressure of making the decision of choosing a QB in the first round.

  10. I don't know who wrote the article on the front page of TBD - titled "Blow Up This Roster" - but that is close to my sentiments.

I like so little about this roster and organization right now.

    What I barely like:

RB - Jackson & Lynch. These two are similar to one another - and I am ok with them both returning. And if Lynch were traded tomorrow, for a 2nd rounder...I would be ok with it. He is one bone headed offseason move away from a year long suspension.

TE - I like Nelson a lot and I can see him developing into a top 10 NFL TE. Maybe not quite a Jason Witten or Antonio Gates - but certainly equal with a Chris Cooley - type TE.

OL - The middle parts of this unit are young, solid and developing...but both Tackle positions need a major upgrade.

What I don't like at all:

The front office is really what needs to be blown up and and erased from the history of the Buffalo Bills.

I would fire the whole lot of them. Coaches, and scouts and the ball boy and the guy that turns the lights on and off. I think there are a couple of good coaches...but no one that can't be replaced.

QB - I will admit, I wanted to give Edwards a shot to prove himself this year, but he failed miserably - and it is time to cut him loose. I would be ok with keeping Fitzy as a backup - but they MUST get a QB that can lead this team.

WR - I don't like any of them. I have really soured on Lee Evans. Maybe with a quality QB he would play better, but in my opinion, he quit playing midway through last season. Reed - although that drop yesterday was a killer - I still think he is a perfect #3 slot guy...but again, he hasn't shown anything that makes me think he shouldn't be replaced. I think TO is a great player...but not this year and not likely ever with this organization...and there is no way he will be back next year.

DB - Major problem letting Greer go last season, and the injury to Leodis leaves the CB position tough to grade. At Safety Byrd is the only one I like. I like Scott as solid back up...but he is starting AT LB!. Whitner on defense = Evans on Offencs in my opinion.

DL: I like Kyle Williams as an ok #2 DT...but Stroud, Schobel and the other clowns all clocked out a month ago.

    Take 'em or leave em:

ST: Lindell and Moorman are ok....but the rest of this group has cose the Bills too many games over the past couple of years.

LB - I am on the fence on POZ. Sometimes I think he is ok...other games he is overmatched from top to bottom. The rest of them are all Free Agent material.

  11. I.M.H.O. Shanny will crash and burn in D.C. - never to be heard from again after two years working with Snyder.

He goes into D.C. with NO star talent on the roster (with the exception of Haynesworth)....and if Snyder buries the organization buying overpriced veteran free agents for a quick turn around, they won't see the light of day for a decade.

I will say it is interesting to see that Allen was part of "the package" when the Bills were talking to Shanahan. That is something that was never mentioned in the reports a few weeks ago.....which goes to tell you that even with the Bills junior varsity approach - you just never know what they are working on and not revealing to the public.

  12. I don't think I would be interested in any of the "Big Name" options they have listed - including Allen if he were still available.

    Big names

Former general managers who are out of the league include Bruce Allen, Floyd Reese and Charley Casserly. Allen, son of Hall of Fame coach George Allen, formerly was personnel chief in Oakland and general manager above Jon Gruden with Tampa Bay. He's on good terms with Brandon. However, Allen does not appear to have the desire to get back in the NFL at this time. Reese, 61, is the former long-time Titans GM. Casserly, 61, formerly was GM in Washington and with the Houston Texans from 2002 to '06.
