One of The moves is to trade off Incognito. Not only is he firmly in the back 9 of his career and is paid over 6M this year but I think that whole thing that went down with Jacksonville’s DL Yannick Ngakoue didn’t leave the best taste in the new regime’s mouth. Purely speculation but Incognito isn’t the best image maker. There’s several teams that need G help, teams like Denver, Minnesota, etc etc. The biggest prospect for LG on the market is going to be Carolina’s 25 year old FA Andrew Norwell. If the Bills can land him in free agency then that would be a huge victory for them, especially if they structure a very friendly long term contract.

Speaking of the OL the untimely loss of Eric Wood didn’t do us any favors. If Groy isn’t an adequate replacement I don’t think that the Bills will take a C early in this draft, it’s suppose to be pretty deep for OLinemen and I think a mid round pick just might do the trick.

Before I move on I would like to say that I would be shocked if the Bills don’t trade Corfu Glenn. The Colts would make a good trade partner. Big part of Andrew Luck’s injury is greatly contributed to their shoddy OL play. I’m quite confident that Cordy would be of great value to them. Unfortunately the right side of our OL is still lacking greatly and I don’t have any idea how the Bills will address this.

Let me get this straight ... you have doubts about how adequate Groy will be as a replacement for woods (I get that) ... and you think the right side of our O-line is lacking greatly (I agree) ... and your suggestion is to trade away Glen and Incognito????

So here's legitimate question in my mind. We have two supremely gifted QBs in Mayfield and Rosen. One, is viewed as the silver-spoon brat who pisses all over anyone he wants because, he can....and the other is viewed a tough, charismatic leader who is misunderstood simply because he loves to win. If you've read up on both, and only if you have, please tell me which of these two present the greatest challenge to Draft based on the "character" concerns alone? In other words, which do you view as merely, "needs to grow up", vs. "he's whacked out and wont' get it right" or maybe you feel it's both or neither....I'm just curious.

Actually IMHO all (or at least most) QBs making the leap from college to the pros need to mature to some extent ... some more than others. It's my opinion that Mayfield has to mature the most of the top tier QBs in this draft. The key to my way of thinking is that there are ways to determine if Mayfield has STARTED the maturation process and understands that there is a time to set aside childish things and has started to do so.

As much as I like Mayfield, if after the public drunkenness problem he still is playing the frat party boy game, or he doesn't seem to understand the flag planting/crotch grabbing stuff doesn't play in the NFL (except for when we play the Pats*) then I'd be more than happy to throw him on the Jonny Manziel/Jamarcus Russell scrap heap of "they cudda been greats"

  3. Mayfield is my choice ....

IMHO, he truly believes in "the process". The guy was a walk-on TWICE and still worked his way to the starting QB job, the Heisman trophy, and the national championship game. He has never had anything handed to him, he's worked for it. I'm also in love with his stats ... however I'm not astute enough to know how to weight them as far as strength of opponent, offensive scheme, surrounding talent, etc. .... to my uneducated "fan eyes" completion percentage, touch  downs, yards per pass, turn overs etc etc etc look like he farrrrrrrr out played the other QBs in this draft.

I understand peoples reluctance about his personal conduct, but as far as I'm concerned it's more important how he conducted himself AFTER the public intoxication thing (is he still a party animal ... has he laid low and behaved himself). As far as that college rah-rah crap .... the flag planting ... the grabbing his crotch ... it's just college rah-rah crap; as far as I'm concerned it wouldn't be a disqualifying problem UNLESS during the interview process we find out that he doesn't understand the difference between whipping the student body into a frenzy with college hijinks and being a professional football player

  4. While I do agree that even the best QB will look bad with an under performing O-line and no skill players, you have to look at "windows of opportunity" to get that QB. The Bills are a perfect example. If you are constantly picking in the 15 - 25 range of the draft without any extra picks, it will be next to impossible to get that blue chip QB. This year, even though we are picking in the 20's, we have an abundance of extra picks at a time when it seems there is an abundance of quality QBs in the draft ... this is our year to trade up. If we were to stand pat and use all of our draft picks to improve our team "overall" while neglecting the QB position, you doom the team of constantly picking at the bottom of the draft and never being able to put a package together to get that QB at the top.

I say draft your QB when you have the ammo ... even if you have to sit him until you can protect him.

...as I replied earlier, I like your Rudolph pick (doubt McBeabe surrenders draft capital to move up) and finds a two year max bridge vet to bring Rudolph & Peterman along.....Bradford's health is too big a risk IMO....could conceivably have to throw rook/Peterman to the wolves in game 4........McCown, Henne, Stanton and possibly Hoyer depending on the Pats moves come to mind......Keenum & McCarron will be looking for 4+ year deals.......talk of Foles trade would be QB positional suicide with Wentz return uncertainty.....Bridgewater probably gets tutored and has to stay for another year with Vikes under rook deal......

    You forgot to mention Fitzpatrick

Very true. And if the Cardinals were to get Cousins, Foles or maybe one of the MIN. Quarterbacks they may be less inclined to draft one at their spot in the first (they will not take one if they got Cousins or even Foles as they would have to give up assets).

I'm hoping Cousins goes to either the Browns, Jets, or Broncos ... that will eliminate them from the QB draft. If he goes to the Cards, it will force us to trade up higher to leap over the Jets. I don't think the Eagles let go of Foles, and as far as one of the Minny QBs .... I'd have serious health concerns with either Bridgewater or Bradford ... and I don't think they'll let Keenum out of the building.

  7. 13 minutes ago, racketmaster said:

Great point. Rudolph definitely checks the experience and maturity box as far as attributes the Bills prefer. I would be concerned about CIN, BAL, and possibly SD taking a shot at him before the Bills pick. If the Bills really covet him they may seriously consider moving up a few slots.

The way I see it ... the Browns, Giants, Broncos Jets, and Cardinals will all be QB shopping. Cinci, Balt, and SD COULD take a flier on a QB, but all three have established QBs and I don't see them overly willing to spend a first round pick on one. With Cousins going to one of the QB needy teams (eliminating them from the draft competition) I see 4 teams above us who I feel will defiantly draft a first round QB.

If one were to assume the QBs get drafted in the order of the current hype/trendiness, that leaves the Bills with the need to only leapfrog the Cardinals to get a better than even chance to draft Rudolph.

  8. How far up do you suggest the Bills move up???

Which QB do you suggest the Bills target???

How much are you willing to give to trade up???

Your answer to those questions will determine if you should buy tickets next year ... or convert to a WNBA fan.

  9. Bills cash in some of that draft currency and trade up to #3 to get the QB that they want

K Williams comes back (with the blessing of his wife) for one LAST season and the Bills advertise it as Kyles farewell tour ... fans respond bringing Kyle to tears

Tre Jones (with healed shoulder) becomes the WR that the Bills thought he was when they drafted him

A healthy KB plays "lights out" because he feels he has something to prove ... justifying the Bills spending a 3rd rounder for him ... becomes a Bills fan favorite

Somebody is willing to pay E.J. Gaines top 5 CB money ... the Bills are not

Shortly after the draft, Bill Bellichick retires due to "health reasons" handing the team over to McDaniels

McDaniels & Tom Terrific have an epic clash of egos throughout the season, resulting in a he goes or I go ultimatum to Kraft

    Chuckie disappoints in Oakland

Colts are eventually happy they ended up with Frank instead of Josh

If each of the 3 Vikes QBs think they are a starter and want starter money, why would two re-sign with the Vikes.

I see your point ... but

You have Keenum who had a pretty good year

You have Bridgewater who suffered a horrific devastating injury and may never be the player he was

You have Bradford who's knees are so bad he can't play more than a game or two without reinjuring them

If I'm king of the Vikes (which I'm not) I'm offering Keenum a starters contract, I'm offering Bridgewater a slightly better than a "prove it" type of contract (more for sentimental reasons than performace reasons) and telling Bradford "thanks for the memories ... good bye"

Now to put the ball back in your court ...

Do you offer either Bridgewater or Bradford a "starters contract" and pass on Allen, Mayfield, Rosen, or Darnold?

If I were Emperor I would sign a free agent QB for money not picks take the picks and package them for the once in a generation rb Barkley to give us a ridiculously good running game ( have to fortify the Online as well) .

Daboll likes a power running game? Ok there ya go.

I think I would also prefer spending the money for a free agent QB too ... but to stand pat with our picks and fill areas of need. Problem is ... which free agent QB will be available?

I think the Vikes keep Bridgewater and Keenum ... the other QB is just too fragile for me to take a chance on

I think the Eagles keep Foles, he's cheep and still under contract

I think Cousins is going to the Broncos

I just don't see an available combination of talent and youth that would trump the top four draft QBs.

  13. 5 minutes ago, RochesterRob said:

The Giants will be taking a QB given Eli's age will definitely take one at 2 if they think somebody is jumping up to 3 from the 20's versus trading back to 4 and then getting their QB.   Don't assume that a "QB needy" team will be the only ones.  The Jags showed they could go pretty far with Bortles and might chance grabbing a rookie that could start mid-Season if Bortles is true to his typical form early on.  They have everything in place to win now and could afford to mortgage the farm on this spring's draft.  Throw Jimmy Johnson's trade chart in the trash as it will not get it done this spring.

I agree about the Giants ... I also think the Browns pick a QB so that's two of the four mentioned QBs gone. All I was saying is we have the draft choice "capitol" to get a premier QB THIS SEASON without hurting us too awfully bad, and a potential trade partner high enough to snag a QB at the top of the order, whereas in following seasons we just may not have the picks to offer for a potential franchise QB. I don't think the Jags come into the equation because they just don't have the picks to give to leapfrog our potential deal.

  14. Actually we CAN accomplish both ....

If I were the king of the Bills (which I'm not) I'd feel like all of the draft picks we got last off season for the trades we made are "found money" ... I'd trade our first, the first we got from KC, the second we got from LAR, and the fifth we got from Jax to INDY for their #3 pick ... you are then assured either Rosen, Darnold, Mayfield, or Allen.

Don't get all .... "that's too expensive" on me ... we have the draft capitol THIS YEAR .... assuming the Bills arrow is pointing up, we are going to be drafting in the 20's for years to come, and we STILL retain a handful of picks this year, and don't have to give up anything next year.

The "catch" with this strategy, is that the Colts have to be a willing partner. I think they will (depending on Luck's health), they have their QB, but the team around him pretty much stinks.

This is all a moot point if the Bills want a free agent QB that may come available and would rather spend $$$ instead of draft picks.

    My bold predictions;

Belichick will retire ... I still think there is something rotten in the organization trading away #2 & #3 QB this season and I'm thinking it was a Belichick/Brady/Kraft power struggle

Brady comes back next year ... he has stated that he wants to keep playing until he sucks ... he didn't suck last night ... and he won his power struggle

Gronk comes back next year ... his "quote" was a quote from a player who played 18 games, his body is beat up and tired, and he was disappointed losing a game that he felt they should have won.

McDaniels stiffs the Colts and comes back to the Pats* to take over as head coach ... There's been lots of "buzz" about Patricia taking over the Lions ... but nothing really concrete about McDaniels finalizing a deal with the Colts.

  17. I have been predicting that this is Belichick's last year because of the Garropolo fiasco . The whole thing is contrary to Bill's MO, he has NEVER chosen to keep an aging veteran over the up and coming (and cheaper) young stud. IMHO he was over ruled by Kraft and forced to send Garropolo packing, it just makes NO sense to trade away your 3rd string QB, then part way through the season to trade away your 2nd string QB for peanuts ... something is rotten in Denmark there .... I can see Belichick feeling ... "I've proved my greatness, you think you can run this team better than I can ... have at it".

As far as Brady retiring ... I don't see it, he got his way, he has proved his "stuff" is bigger than Belichick's "stuff" ... he's a happy camper so I see him back for at least next year ... BUT ... if next year ends up a fecal storm because of the front office turnover, look for Tommy boy to bail quicker than a rat from a sinking ship.

He's an All-Pro and Bills Treated Him Like A "Nobody"

This couldn't be more accurate.  Sometimes things like this happen.  It happened.  Time to move on.

Bills treated him like a nobody with a 100 million dollar contract. I liked him quite a bit ... but he needed to grow up and be a professional ... no more being late for meetings ... no more getting sent home before a game for some "mysterious infraction". He seemingly felt like he should get special treatment on a team that has advertised time after time that there will be NO special treatment no matter who you are. I was sad to see him go ... but ... for him to stay would have undermined what the coaching staff was trying to instill in this team from day one.

No argument from me there. The draft is a crap shoot. IMO the best thing you can do to help yourself when picking is to minimize risks. Height is a risk, it's the reason Wilson wasn't a first round pick. You're right though, we drafted EJ for his height and even for his hand size so no, my position isn't unassailable, but I think percentage-wise you're probably safer picking the taller guys if you're looking for a prototypical pocket passer.

The choice in my mind is do we "spend" all of draft capital to get one of the top hyped guys, who may or may not turn out to be THE guy, or is it less of a risk to let Mayfield drop to us at 21 and use the rest of our picks on quality players?

Personally, I'd go the Mayfield route ... my biggest problem would be the ulcers I'd develop until my pick worrying that somebody will pick Mayfield in front of me.

  20. I love the "where are they now" idea.

Another might be human interest type of articles on current players, such as do they stay in Buffalo, do they go back to their hometown. What does a typical day in the life of player "X" look like in the off season. How are they perceived/treated around town doing their daily routine like shopping for groceries etc. I think it would be particularly interesting to conflict the differences between a player that lives in a place with no NFL representation, with a player who lives in a place that has an allegiance to another NFL team, and a player who has decided to call Buffalo his home year round.
