I can see your points but according to https://www.pro-football-reference.com last year Brown caught 43.2% of his targets, Jones caught 54.9% of his targets, soooo if you throw each one 100 times Brown equals 100 X 15 X 43.2% which is roughly equal to 648 yards, to Jones equals 100 X 11.7 X 54.9% is roughly 642.33 yards. I'm sorry I just don't see that much of a difference.

I'm a typical Kool-Aid drinking Pollyanna Bills fan. When we got Brown & Beasley I figured 2/3rds of our receiving corps problems had been solved. I have gone through the preseason figuring Brown our #1, Beasley our slot, and we only have to figure out who that "complementary" WR is going to be, and the room seemed full of guys none of whom would be a bad choice to fill that bill. Today, for the first time, I took a look at Browns stats and nothing really jumped out at me shouting #1 receiver. I figured I'd look at Zay Jones stats to see how much of an upgrade Brown would be. Much to my surprise (if you take away Zay's rookie year where he played with shoulder problems) they pretty much look like the same guy.
I'm not as down on Zay as most of you. While I don't think he's much of a #1 receiver, I think he could play the role as that "complementary guy" just fine, problem is Brown seems to have had HIS problems with missed catches too … have I deluded myself into thinking that Brown is a clear cut #1, I'm NOT talking Jerry Rice, Megatron, OBJ #1, just a sure handed, reliable, you can count on him MOST of the time receiver?
I get it that Brown is faster than Zay, but I don't want faster … I want catches the ball better.
Talk me off the cliff people … convince me we don't have a Zay, and a fast Zay on our hands here.

If the Bills defense calls a play to stop the run, the d-linemen's job is to stonewall his opponent effectively clogging up running lanes, the middle linebackers job is to rush up to the line and "fill in" the outside LBs job is to seal the edges. SO … if that were true … Oliver engaging his man, and not allowing him to shed him is doing his particular job ON THAT PLAY.
On passing downs Ed will be assigned to shed his opponent, penetrate into the backfield and create havoc.
I propose that the coaching staff already knows he is capable of penetration on passing downs and they are giving him reps ih holding his ground to defend the run.
But I could be wrong.

Interesting observation, I only have one question because I'm always trying to become a more knowledgeable fan. How can you tell which plays he is called on to penetrate and rush the passer, and which plays he is supposed to "protect" the point of attack to allow the LBs to run free?

My favorite J.A. stat from last night was 1 yard rushing. It looks to me like the coaching staff has told him in no uncertain terms to NOT run the ball, but to take the "safety valve" pass.
The reason it's my favorite stat is that Josh didn't get frazzled that a big part of his game has been taken away, he's taking those short throws and moving the chains. I do believe that once the season starts, Josh will start to occasionally take off and run when the situation dictates, but it won't be the major part of his game. IMHO last season Josh tried to play too much "hero ball" either trying to throw the bomb, or run the ball. It looks to me that THIS season he will concentrate on moving the chains and sprinkling a run or long pass here and there.
IMHO the coaching staff is FORCING Josh to become comfortable throwing the short stuff to the slot receiver and running backs, and last night seemed to show Josh is starting to take to the philosophy.

I just had a crazy thought … Clowney really doesn't make sense to me. Another name I've heard deep in the rumor mill was A.J. Green, which also doesn't make sense to me. What if the Bills "big splash" is Trent Williams?
He has dug his heels in and is refusing to play another down for the Skins … maybe Snyder wants to dump him for anything he can get. Even though I like Dawkins, I think Williams would be an upgrade.
I have NO inside information …. I am NOT making a prediction … just a thought, what do ya'll think???

My first game was the Bills very first home game. I don't remember who we were playing (I was 9). But I DO remember my first sight of the field, I remember buying fresh roasted peanuts from a cart on Best. I remember my Dad telling me they used to run stock car races in the stadium "back in the day". I remember the greatest day in my life spent with my Dad and older brothers.

It should be locked because the trial happened 25 years ago. If you had a problem then was the time you should have voiced it.
It should be locked because he was found not guilty, if you have personal information that could overturn that verdict, you should have presented it at trial.
So simply put;
It should be locked because your viewpoint is neither timely or factual and is clearly designed to troll.

I may be in the minority here but …. I want the Bills to win because they have gotten better than the Pats, not because the Pats have gotten worse than the Bills.

At a minimum I would recommend two things. A playoff team must have a .500 record or better to make the playoffs. No more 7-9 or 7-8-1 division winners. And they must take away the automatic home field playoff game for division winners. The top 6 teams should be ranked by record. It is not fair for a 11-5 Saints team to travel to a 7-9 Seattle.
Why do you only consider NFC teams as ones with "national exposure"? Why do you think Green Bay isn't a "small market" team?
IMHO a team gets national exposure when they become a team who consistently win more than they lose, a team who logically are in play for a playoff spot year in and year out throughout the season regardless of their local market, Green Bay being a case in point.

Actually I wasn't thinking about the Pats with that comment … I was thinking about the Bengals. As much as I hate to admit it over the last decade and a half the Pats were a legit good team … the Bengals on the other hand have made the playoffs numerous times with no real reason for them being there other than other teams in their division stunk up the field.

There's 16 teams in each conference. No "interleague" play anymore. Every team plays each other in the conference and the top 6 make it to the playoffs.
I like this scenario, only catch is with a 16 team conference that would mean a 15 game season. I would like this because it would mean each game would be more important to making the playoffs. I would offset the regular season "lost game" by adding one team in each conference to the playoffs, only giving the #1 team a bye, which would add a game to the playoffs. While I was at it I would eliminate 2 preseason games and trade it for more practice time during training camp.
This scenario eliminates the "false dynasties" of teams continually making the playoffs because they are in a weak division, and teams with a better record missing a playoff berth because a team in a weak division got in with an 8-8 record.
Also with the Super Bowl becoming the best of the AFC vs the best of the NFC (without Interleague meetings throughout the season) may bring back some of the old AFL/NFL rivalries/loyalties of day of old.

Back in the days I worked at Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale I had a buddy/co-worker named Mike Tolliver. He was a "smallish" guy maybe 175 - 180 pounds. One day we were on a business trip to DC and at a restaurant eating dinner, he reached across the table and I noticed a particularly blinged out watch, when I commented on it he said that's the watch they gave him for playing in some bowl game (I don't remember which one). I said that I never suspected he was a football player. As it turns out he was a decent WR out of Stanford. I asked him if he ever considered pro ball and he said as a matter of fact he was drafted by the Cowboys, but ended up as one of their final cuts, the next year he was invited to camp by the Bills, but decided football wasn't the life for him about halfway through camp, and gave it up.
I asked what had turned him off of football and he laughed and said that he had played football his entire life and the guys in the locker room were his point of reference, he never realized he was small. Once he was cut from the Cowboys he came to Lockheed Martin to work as an intern for a year and his point of reference as to average body size got readjusted to us mere mortals. When he reported to the Bills his first thought was these guys are the biggest human beings on the face of the earth … a small guy like me could get killed so he chose a cushy life as a Lockheed Martin engineer.
I asked if he had any regrets and he said he is satisfied with his decision about 98% of the time, but occasionally he'll be watching a game on TV and see somebody he played with/against and think DAMN I was a heck of a lot better than him … I wonder what could have been … but it passes.
We both had a good laugh and ordered another beer.

All of those fans who say how much they love the Bills Mafia are not saying they love the "Bills Mafia", but they're saying how much they love the things the Bills fans do for charity, how passionate & supportive the fans are toward the team, or how vocal the fans are in support of the team or the area of WNY. It would be the same respect if we called ourselves the Bills posse, or unpaid Bills, or whatever.

That is the "Nathan Peterman confidence rule" … it is designed to prevent the confidence of new QBs being crushed this early in the preseason.

Kyle Williams is the best running back in the history of the team …. he scored a touchdown every time he ran the ball. He is also the best receiver in the history of the team …. he caught 100% of the passes thrown to him.
