  1. I say we trade for Aaron Rogers! Yep, that's do, let's get Aaron Rogers

and if Green Bay won't play nice, we can complain to Jamestown favorite son Roger Goodell and he will suspend the Packers franchise because they refused to trade us Aaron Rogers.

I agree with going after Rogers .... but I would like to propose we go after Brady too as Aaron's back up ..... that way we have a starter and a decent back up if that pesky calf injury flares up again. While we are at it we may as well get Brees and Rivers too for "camp arms" and to provide a little competition in training camp.

  2. Again, the most reasonable approach to finding some great QB who does not exist is to add the one or two players needed for this D to allow a merely adequate QB to rack up enough Ws mto get this team into the playoffs.

I know folks are addicted to a likely fruitless search for the next Jimbo, but it is almost certainly aint gonna happen. With our current DL we are 1 shutdown corner away from allowing us rack up many a W with a QB who is not capable of consistently carrying the Bills, but simply does not make a lot of mistakes that kill us.

IMHO ... that is the direction we will be going in ... instead of trying to turn E.J. into Manning, we are going to try and turn him into Alex Smith. Build a "dream team" around him, and task him to not not loose the game.

I just don't see the QB out there that is a sure fire chance to be better than E.J. at this time. I think we build the team ... bide our time and wait for our chance to get a potential "star QB.

  3. I wonder if that was the reason for the "blow-up" between Marrone and Whaley early this season ........... Whaley telling Marrone that he was trading for Williams, and Marrone feeling that Williams had quit on the team in college said that he didn't want him on the team .... both digging their heels in and Whaley got adamant about getting Mike, and Marrone getting adamant that he wouldn't play him.

Just a guess on my part because I can't figure out why Mike doesn't get more playing time in the red zone

  4. If I were king of the world (I'm not) ...

I would add two expansion teams, one in AFC and one in NFC.I would then eliminate cross conference games. The schedule would always be each team plays every team in their conference once, with the top however many teams making the playoffs, and the Super Bowl reverting to NFC vs AFC conference champs.

  5. I'm sitting here laughing my ass off at the stupidity of judging a rookie QB who:

    1) Played in only 2 preaseason games

    2) Then played in 5 regular season games

    3) Then missed 4 regular season games

    4) Then returned to play against Pittsburgh and LeBeau in Pittsburgh.

I'm really surprised at how many of you are out of touch with reality.

....... sooooooo, do you have an opinion on Lewis and Tuel?????

  6. My biggest concerns about E.J. is that he never seems to set his feet. He is always hopping and moving his feet like he is really REALLY uncomfortable in the pocket, IMHO this leads to his inaccuracy and underthrowing the long ball. Another concern has been mentioned a few times by other posters in that he seems to be playing with a very limited playbook, that is to be expected with a rookie QB, but to my untrained eye, it seems to be much more limited that what Lewis and even Tuel were working with. I'm not sure if the brain trust at one Bills drive are trying to "protect" his ego with a vanilla "safe" game plan, or that he is calling an audible at the line of scrimmage because he lacks self confidence.

  7. How much of this is lack of support from receivers? I hope he's in decline, but really i think he'sm just missing Welker, Gronk, Hernandez, Branch & Lloyd. Edelman has been his best receiver and I wouldn't consider him anything special.

.... but .... in 2006 his recievers were ... drumroll please ... Troy Brown, Reche Caldwell, Brandon Childress, Doug Gabriel, Chad Jackson, Jabar Gaffney, Kelvin Knight, and Johnathan Smith, and they went 14 and 5 that season (and it wasn't on the strength of their running game).

In the past Brady made his recievers great ... now he needs great recievers,Tom Terrific isn't that guy who can carry the team on his back anymore .... still a damn good QB, but definatly on the decline.

  8. The thing I noticed about the game yesterday was the Bills actually changed up the play call on first down, they actually threw the ball a bit on first and ten. As a matter of fact the overall play calling seemed somehow different than when E. J. was behind center. Did anybody else feel this way????

I don't know if the coaching staff is trying to "protect" E. J. by running a vanillia offense while he is in there ... or E. J. is audibling out of of some plays ... or the O co-ordinator just tumbled to the fact that we have the talent to actually mix up the run and pass plays.

Neither of the three options really make sense to me ... maybe the third one a little bit ... and maybe the change in offensive game plan is all in my head.

  9. It seems like most of this thread is oriented around the assumption that EJ Manuel is unquestionably the long term answer to our QB concerns:

-Worries about whether the guy we bring in will somehow ruin him if he's not a good example of what a QB should be (btw who's his "example" now?)

-assertions that the decision is not that big a deal because we'll only need this guy for a few weeks this year

-suggestions that this is a rebuilding year where wins don't matter

The problem I see with that assumption: Manuel hasn't really proven anything yet, as far as long term capability as a franchise QB. Granted he gets the benefit of the doubt as he's a rookie and learning, but more importantly,he has not come close to proving that he will have the durability for that role. For those reasons it would seem prudent to consider that we need a backup QB that MIGHT be an alternative answer as a starter. I think that was the thinking all along with Kolb, but it didn't pan out. It damn sure isn't Tuel. Freeman (or maybe even Young) at least give us the plausible potential of being a starter. You can't immediately write off either, as both have "extenuating circumstances" in their histories.

DING .... DING ..... DING .... Don't get me wrong, I love E.J. and hope he proves to be our next Jim Kelly. But the fact of the matter is he is a rookie and hasn't really proved anything yet. He has a metric butt ton of potential, but he still seems to be pretty darn tentative out there, he has yet to take a game and be consistent. I would really like to have seen him play more like that last drive against the Panthers, and less of the hopping around in the pocket spraying balls all over the field out of the reach of the receivers. I don't have a problem with bringing in the best available QB out there and letting them compete for the job.
