  1. You're insane. This is what I said in response to someone claiming that Oakland sports radio was reporting Moss to the Pats for and '08 2nd: How does that show a "willingness to believe?" If I was willing to believe, I would not have been awaiting confirmation. Stallworth was considered by many to be the best WR on the open market. He was most people's idea of a big-time off-season WR addition. What is this, year four of the "closing window" era? You're slipping into self-parody territory here, MDB. Helpful hint: A team that goes from 10-6 and the divisional round in '05 to 12-4 and the championship round in '06 and then adds a bunch of talent in the off-season is one whose window is opening wider.
  2. Thomas is 29. What does it matter how they relate to Evans? The question to ask is if they're better than the likes of Kelvin Kight and Bam Childress. Never mind that Welker is about as good a fit for the New England offense as there is. In any event, the Pats hardly spent "a lot of money" on Welker and Stallworth. Welker signed for $3.6 million a year, and Stallworth's deal is only $3.6 million for one year if the Pats opt out of it after '07.
  3. I've no idea what you're talking about. Here are my Moss-to-Pats-related posts that I could find: http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showt...mp;#entry929446 http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showt...mp;#entry929585 http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showt...mp;#entry930574 http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showt...mp;#entry930613 Perhaps I missed it. Care to direct my attention to the post in question?
  4. I had no allegiance to any team before that. I had always seen people I grew up around root for the Giants, but they never appealed to me. Still, it always seemed like fun to have a team to root for. So I took the gift as a sign of sorts, and started rooting for the Pats.
  5. I was naive and new to NFL fandom, give me a break! I was quite the Bledsoe fan in his early days. After the second half collapse in '99, though, I began to sour.
  6. In fairness though, restricted free agency is not the same as a trade. Edwards would've had a damn good career if not for his injury. Damn beach flag football.
  7. I'm a Yankee fan, actually. I live in New York and never really had a favorite NFL team before '93, when a relative who often visited Vermont brought me a Pats sweatshirt (with the old Pat Patriot logo). I've been hooked ever since. Nice try, though.
  8. This Pats fan thinks it's a good trade for the Bills. My name actually comes from Donahoe's selection of McGahee. Ah, good times...
  9. Levy should get an award - that is A LOT of value to get for McGahee. Good trade for you guys.
  10. It's a good signing. Graham is an outstanding blocker and a capable receiver - his numbers were deflated by the fact that New England spreads the ball around. $6 million/yr seems like a lot, but in this crazy market, old rules no longer apply. I'll remember Graham's days as a Pat fondly. He was a solid contributor to some great teams.
  11. The original poster says the deal is for a 2008 2nd. The Pats still have that to give up.
  12. He heard it on the radio, thus, no link. I'll be awaiting confirmation, though. Not too terribly much to give up.
  13. Looks real enough to me. This, of course, means that Manning's profession must now be listed as "NFL QB/prostitute."
  14. March 1st: Pats are cheap, they never pay what it takes to get quality free agents to sign with them. March 5th: Pats are teh YANKEES!!1!!!1! Damned if they do, damned if they don't.
  15. Borges suspended for two months without pay: http://www.boston.com/news/globe/city_regi...e_suspends.html
  16. A handful of guys imitating Merriman's dumbass dance is hardly a circus. Both news to me. Perhaps you could elaborate.
  17. They're not going to pay a similar amount to Welker. The $38.5 million figure was likely poison-pilled, and the real deal he gets from the Pats will likely be considerably less. Anyway, Branch was under contract last year, and the only way he would've stayed is if the Pats ripped up the last year of his deal. Doing that would've set a dangerous precedent for a team that is heavily reliant on drafting well and getting players for as long as possible on rookie contracts. Thus, the team would've been hurt if Branch was still here, and are not by Welker being here.
  18. I would guess the Pats will still negotiate a long-term deal with him - it makes little sense to trade a pretty high pick for a guy if you're not going to keep him for a while. In any event, most of that $38 million in the proposed offer sheet was fake anyway, so I imagine Welker will end up getting about the same amount of money.
  19. Peter King is reporting a 2nd and a 7th. Don't know why they wouldn't just sign him to a poison pilled offer sheet and give up only the 2nd.
  20. Everything I've heard about Gonzalez makes him sound like an ideal Patriots WR. Given that the Pats have already been linked to Welker, Stallworth, and Moss, however, they seem to be looking to fix the WR position more through free agency and trades than through the draft.
