  1. Since this is all about being on the record:

    1. I hate the Watkins trade. If the 2018 draft were today, would you not spend a first (late first at worst) to draft a 24 year old Sammy Watkins. What future are we planning for when you trade that guy? I don't get it at all. He'll be special and this trade will be 'bad' down the road.

    2. I liked the Darby trade. I think in our current D (assuming our front four is as advertised) allows for more pedestrian corner play. Even if we did not acquire Gaines, I have no beef trading a 'solid' starter in Darby for a 'solid' starter in Matthews....plus a pick.

As a final image, I almost threw up when I saw that photoshopped pic of Watkins in a Rams uni. I don't get it. The Julio Jones comparisons (injuries and talent) make me very anxious.

I hope Mr. Beane proves me wrong.

Point one is totally irrelevant - yes I would draft a 24 yr old SW in the first if he was under a rookie contract and the injuries were not there.

I would not draft a 24 yr old SW with the known injury history and knowing you need to sign him at 13-15 million a year contract with the injury history.

You trade the guy to get a younger version that is price controlled for 4 or 5 years and fits the scheme you want to run.

The Julio Jones comparison is great if we had Matt Ryan and a passing offense, but that is not what we are doing this year or probably next year - so get something and move on.

We can disagree. Point one is about the value the Bills got back in return. I.e. the topic of this thread. Do I (and everyone else) like it or not? I think they got pedestrian return for what I think is elite talent. The contract/potential contract is an issue but it then becomes about value.

Your presumption of replacing elite talent is interesting. In fact, your third point is a huge leap of faith. It'd be great if we could flip our roster every three years and never worry about spending any money to retain great players. We can just keep drafting and finding elite players all the time. That's always easy. Draft 'luck' is a different topic....but you can keep your second rounder and your corner. I'lI keep Watkins for this year and next at the very least....but probably longer. I know tough decisions have to be made with the cap etc. This, however, is one I would have never had to face. I was stunned when they did not pick up his option....and I was moreso when they traded him. (As an aside....another poster pointed out, they likely 'hurt' his trade value by not picking up that option).

Let me know when this 'younger version' (Again...sammy is 24) arrives....and we can also watch how Sammy's career unfolds.

My opinion is that Watkins will be great. I could be wrong.....but that's the joy of going on the record. Im guessing you think he's average as your premise requires him to be easily and readily replaced.

Time will tell. I wish Mr. Watkins well and hope we do, in fact, find equal talent.

  3. But you did make some sort of prearrangement no?

This other kids parents may not have.

Absolutely. The requirements were made known at time of booking and, as noted, there are additional charges. They reconfirmed everything and rechecked ID's at both ends of trip. I thought it was handled very professionally. They also treated her like 'first class.' She got all the food etc she wanted.

I just saw plenzmd's comment. Yeah...the 150 was definitely a rip but at least they were very strict with security etc. Much, obviously, depends on the competence of the 'minor' involved.

  4. My 13 yo niece just flew 'unaccompanied' on united. I handed her off at the gate to a United rep and they allowed me to stay at gate until plane took off. My brother was the recipient at the other end of this cross country flight. He produced ID at gate to 'collect' his daughter. It was very smooth and I thought the United folks were great. This was a direct flight, however.

It does cost a fair amount. I believe it was a 150 dollar charge to have the extra guidance/assistance for her.

  5. Seemed like a good, hardworking guy. I think he did more good than bad...and wish he could have found common ground with the new coach. He'll be employed soon. I appreciate what he did here. Wish him nothing but success unless his 'new' team is playing the Bills.

  6. I usually try not to be overly sensitive here but this is beyond appalling. I know many of these people and they have wives and kids. They are good people. It's part of the business but to celebrate them losing their jobs is disgusting. These are guys that have to go home and tell their spouses that they no longer have a job. They aren't rich by any means and did their best to improve the team. Their were hits and there were misses. It is a part of the business but an awful part (not one to be celebrated). Stay classy

I was going to say end the thread right here....

Jim Monos is going to be a very good GM on day.

...but then figured this should be kept as well.

  7.

I mean, it's not like Rex ran a straight 3-4. His playbook involves a lot of looks... including plays with only 10 men.

I'm going to go ahead and acknowledge this gem (since nobody else has). I chuckled pretty hard after reading this.:lol:

That being said... carry on gentlemen. Lots of good info/insight in this thread from majority of posters.

  8. Meh, I've done that before. Then I go find the hooker, watch the amusing rocking animation while my score goes down, beat her with the baseball bat, take my money back, and do a drive by

I tell my wife all the time... This is why you are suppose to practice "donuts' in the parking lots when the snow and ice flies! she wants no part of the "practice sessions." Comes in handy in a real world situation. Some clown was following me too closely in a black ice situation in Iowa last month. I fished tailed three times across the icy road without him either plowing into us or finding ourselves going off the road into the ditch. After my drifting, ballerina stunt, the SOB made sure to stay back and give enough space!

I made my son perform some 'corrective steering' maneuvers when he was learning to drive. Donuts, hard braking in snow etc should be mandatory training for new drivers....just not on the road.

  9. What does the roster of 2006 have to do with the 2016 roster? What mistakes did Whaley and Monos make in 2009? Monos actually won a Super Bowl that year.

This is my biggest pet peeve on the board by far. Each team and year is different. You can only judge personnel people by the roster that they assembled. To hold them accountable for decisions when they were with other teams is beyond asinine.

I've said that the talent on this roster is above average and exceeds the record. The coaching has been much better over the last 3 weeks and you are seeing the results. If you don't like the moves over the last 3 years (or whatever it's been) go ahead and trash Whaley, Monos, Fisher and company. What happened prior to them couldn't be less relevant to the conversation.
