Postgame thread (8/17/24) - Bills at Steelers
MikePJ76 replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
it is kind of a unique situation though. Our third string qb was injured in preseason game 1 and a guy was brought in off the street with two days of practice which he didn't get many snaps and was forced to play a half because the 2nd string qb was injured. Sitting other guys on offense has its effect also. -
The issue with the practice squad is players have to agree to it. I just wonder if Gore will look at the 3 backs (maybe 4) ahead of him and think there is more opportunity elsewhere and not want to sign onto the bills practice squad
-
Absolutely not. Lance has no contract after this year and he has a bunch of issues.

Josh Allen has thrown three passes. -
Bad example there. Andy Reid is from the west coast tree and specifically grew up within Ron Wolfe's Green Bay philosophy of taking quarterbacks in the draft every year and developing them. Reid has not done quite that but he always has capable backup qb's and because he is such an excellent quarterbacks coach and offensive mind he knows exactly how to get these backups to succeed. Right now he has Carson Wentz and think what you want but in the same/similar system in philly with Doug Pederson in 2017 he was the leading candidate to be mvp until his injury. Ironically his backup won the superbowl. in 2006 Mcnabb tore an acl and the eagles looked like they were in trouble but Jeff Garcia played great and they won the division and a playoff game. Andy Reid always has capable backup quarterbacks who he then puts in the best situations.

Just to throw a WR name out there who maybe could be had for a 6th round pick or 2026 6th or 7th round conditonal pick Terrace Marshall Jr. He is in Carolina and seemingly on his way out, he has been with Joe Brady at LSU and in Carolina. He has the size they seem to be in the market for also. Just putting it out there.

Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 2
MikePJ76 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
I am pretty sure they are just trying to get through camp with enough bodies to take reps and play these last two preseason games. If MVS is going to miss the start of the season or longer I am pretty certain they will make a move of some kind to get a legitimate wr in who can play. To be clear I am not saying they are trading for Adams or lamb, just that they will probably move a late draft pick for a guy who might not make a roster somewhere and this allows the Bills to not have to fight in the waiver claim line. me personally, If I am Bean I am on the phone every day with Schoen and bugging him about Slayton. -
Very reasonable roster. I think a trade/waiver claim is in the future for this team at WR and Safety though. Ulofoshio is going to be interesting. He and Andressen are the same size, age...seemingly similar players with Ulofoshio having more pedigree.

Coleman was wide open on the interception. Had potential for a huge play. watched some of seattle this morning and Sam Howell looks like an excellent backup.

Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 2

On the play where Trubisky threw the inerception Coleman was wide open down the sideline, looked like cover two, mabye four but he was right in between in the sweet spot of the corner and the safety. if he gets thrown the ball there he probably just has to beat the safety and he scores. Unfortunately he wasn't thrown the ball. When the all 22 is available I will grab the play and post it. Hey Cool. If you don't like me that is perfectly fine. It's noted and I will go about my day. -

Sorry I disagree. You might want to show where the safety is on that play. if you want to see how to throw a tight window slant and protect your WR. Go watch CJ Stroud throw that slant to Diggs yesterday, right between the numbers where only he can catch it and he can protect himself. This idea that slants, particularly on the goal line are good throws when they are high and away and leading the wr into a safety is baffling to me. So if you hate coleman and the pick or you think it's a rookie thing or even worse the if you can get your hands on it you should catch it nonsense, then great. We all see the the game a little different. Coleman ran a good route, was wide open and was expecting the ball in rhythm to be right on him and instead it was a knuckleball that was high and away and a classic medicine ball leading him right into contact. -

this might be true but not sure what it has to do with what I said. The fastest man in the universe wasn't catching that ball last night. Coleman was wide open. A good ball and he scores there and people today are talking about the good route he ran to get inside the defender and make himself look like a huge target, he was wide open. If Allen is playing I believe Coleman has a TD in the back of the endzone last week and has an easy pitch and catch on that slant last night for a TD. I stand by exactly what I said. It was a bad throw and a huge miss to a wide open wr who won his slant route. There is nothing and no one that will change my mind it was a bad throw. If you think that was a good throw then fine we see NFL football much differently. -

everything about the throw was bad. it was high and it was away. The two critical points of throwing a slant, never be high and never lead your wr into danger. That throw was a classic medicine ball. It should have been right on him between the numbers where he can get his hands on it and protect himself or down low where only he can catch it. You never throw a slant high, and you 100% do not throw it where the WR has to completely extend his arms and put him in danger. I am going to keep repeating this today, Bill Walsh's rule, SIX INCHES in front of the numbers. -

I'm sorry are you saying the slant to Coleman was a perfect throw? is this what you are saying to me? and last weeks throw was worse. -

I am a fan of Darius Slayton and have seen rumblings he would like to be moved. So I am all in on trading a round 5 maybe potentially a conditional 4th for Slayton if the Giants want to move him. He fits the outside speed role you are referring to and he can actually catch. If MVS is out for a month or something they are in a real bind. They are going to have to trade for someone and at least Slayton is an average wr who has a really good trait. -
Hardy, Ingram, Davidson and Andressen looked like NFL players last night. Ray Davis has shown enough that I would not even play him in the next game. There is no need. Solomon looks like a player to me also but its a long season and its risky to cut a guy like Jonathan for Solomon knowing that he is going to go through the rookie wall at some point. Those last few defensive line spots are going to be tricky and I think the offensive line spots are going to be very tricky also. Offensive lineman get signed when they are waived. Unlike WR, RB and Tight End where every team has the same types of athletes who get cut so you can sign your own guys back to the practice squad, Offenisve Line is the spot teams are digging deep on every roster to find players.

OMG Coleman has not dropped anything. If he had a decent qb playing with him these past two weeks he would have had two TD's. He doesn't because of two horrendous throws. Worthy was wide open on what looked like a blown coverage. Other than that he had two other plays, one should not have counted as he was moving forward before the snap, so much so that trent green laughed during the broadcast, it was clearly illegal motion on worthy. his other catch I saw he fumbled and got lucky the ball came right back to him. If everyone here wants to be a chicken little over worthy that is their right. The bills got Coleman and Carter out of that trade. -

You guys have got to get a grip here. That throw was horrendous. Bill Walsh rule of throwing a slant (or most passes) SIX INCHES in front of the numbers. Also the first thing they are told is to never throw it high. This throw was high and away. It was terrible and it wasn't a spiral. Jerry Rice wasn't catching that ball nor should he have been expected to. and for anyone who needs to understand this please go buy and read Tim Layden's "Blood, Sweat & Chalk". on Page 99, Mike Holmgren tells a story, during practice one day Montana threw a pass behind Rice and he reached back and caught it and Holmgren yelled to Rice great catch, Bill Walsh came running over and screamed at Holmgren that it was a bad throw and quarterbacks were to throw passes SIX INCHES in front of the numbers. That is where a good ball is. If they did not the assistant coaches would feel BIll Walsh's wrath and then they would go after the players. so in a nutshell, Trubisky's pass was awful and its Embarrassing that so many fans and media members can not see this when it is plain as day. -

There is zero chance knox gets traded. He is a core part of what the offense wants to do. Its like saying we are going to trade cook because davis is here. They are in year 2 of building a physical running offense. They finally have the parts to do it and I am baffled why people can not see this and think trading knox is an option of some sort. This kind of stuff and the reaction to the horrendous throw on the endzone backside slant to coleman last night leaves me pretty perplexed as to what people are seeing or not seeing when they watch the games. -

this is probably true. They have numbers at Offensive Line, Tight End and running back. They are going to have to cut good players there. They are short on players at safety because of injuries and now possibly at wr. not to mention they must be frightened with the way Trubisky played tonight. also what happens to gilliam? -
Bills @ Steelers - Preseason Game 2 - Sat 8/17 7PM
MikePJ76 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
anyone who tells you coleman should have caught that should not be listened to. That was not a catchable ball, it was terrible. QB's are taught to never throw slants high. Bill Walsh had a rule with slants that they should be 6 inches in front of the player or a foot in front of the numbers I think he always said, so they can accelerate through the catch. In the endzone situation like today the ball should be between the numbers or down low where only Coleman could catch it. how this is even a discussion is baffling to me. Anyone saying it should have been caught either hates coleman and is looking for fodder online or doesn't know that much about football and is outing themselves as naive.
