So you’re pinning this on Allen? Guys aren’t schemes open, the defense has no teeth, the lines are terrible. Despite all that Allen still had 40+ touchdowns and is the reason they won the division again. His stats were nearly identical to last year, so how exactly did he regress?

He’s the QB so he gets blame for the loss, but name a QB outside of Mahomes and maybe Burrow you would take? If he has regressed you should easily be able to name 5-6 at least (and please name Herbert so it can rip that one to shreds)

He had as many boneheaded turnovers this year as his rookie season.  He led the league in fumbles and INTs.  He scored 10 points at home in a playoff game when he was preseason MVP and this team was preseason Super Bowl favorites.

    He regressed.

I’m a Pats fan and I found your post be downright hilarious! The Truth is Allen, Mahomes and Burrows are the 3 best!

The true problem for your Bills is those other 2 are in the AFC and you need get by them to make the SB.  What’s the difference right now?  A few things:

    1. Burrows and ALL that WR talent is on rookie contracts still. That’s good for a couple years then they will need decide if keeping the O together is more important than a good D.

    2. Mahomes is a great pocket passer as well as a scrambling QB. He IMO is the best QB in the NFL. He has a great TE and ok WR he makes look better. I expect them to lose next week with Mahomes hurt and their D isn’t that great.

    3. Allen — has to carry the running game as well as passing it to keep the Bills O moving everything runs threw him Erik’s, unlike Mahomes and Burrows who have very good RB that they use. Now I don’t know if the Bills have terrible RB or that they just don’t believe in them but way to many games end with like 15 or fewer runs with a lot of those being by Allen.

I disagree with everything you have said

  3. We were dominated in all 3 phases today, but this season and franchise has always been about Josh Allen being an elite QB and taking us to the next level.

It is safe to say he regressed this year and today was the nail in the coffin.

Sure you can blame the OC, but 10 points at home in a playoff game falls on the QBs shoulders in a MAJOR capacity.

If this board voted on Cinci having 27 points before kickoff, most would have taken it.

I am afraid Allen’s career will be an above average quarterback who shuffles between signs of greatness, signs of mediocrity, and signs of someone with zero offers out of high school.

He is NOT even in the league of Mahomes and Burrow and today solidified that.

That’s not what I’m staying. What I’m saying is breathers are obviously important, because Diggs gets them, and he is our main weapon offense (besides Allen). If Diggs gets them, it’s because they want Diggs fresh so he can make plays. They wouldn’t rest Diggs for any reason other than to enhance his performance, and he is a number 1. You stated, Davis being a number 2 should be out there all the time regardless and still preform, without acknowledging that our number 1 gets breathers in order to enhance his performance.

Like I said in my previous post, I’m not saying Davis doesn’t have room for improvement. He does. I’m just sick of posters overacting and and over exaggerating/over stating things without acknowledging the full context of the facts. There is absolutely no benefit to over exaggerate anything or to ignore other relevant info.

No what I said and will repeat, is his snap count has nothing to do with him being inconsistent booty.

  5. 36 minutes ago, Tanoros said:

He’s playing more snaps than Diggs because of his blocking. If Diggs needs a breather every now and then, so does the guy who’s playing more snaps than him.

Obviously Davis has room to improve, but your comment is completely wrong. Being out there as much as he is, has to be tiring and if it wasn’t, Diggs wouldn’t be coming out like he does.

Your comment is wrong.  The reason Davis is not performing consistently is not because he’s playing too many snaps.  That’s just a horrendous take.

But w a qb like him you take the good w the bad. Like that last laser beam yesterday to diggs.  It was a hell of a throw, on target and won the game. Everyone is happy. If it had have sailed, people would have been all over him for being too agressive blah blah blah. You take the good and the bad bc thats ur qb. We are used to way more good than bad now, but if dents and dings are prohibitive of that until we get a bit of a rest then we have to accept that too. He lost us the Jets game and arguably the Vikings game. But he wins so many others ya just have to deal and it is what it is. Im not sure why people seem to have such a hard time with this relatively simple concept...

For sure, but as fans, you should be able to call out the bad without being crucified.

Didn't we just have a thread on this?

    The issue is consistency.

Davis has had a very boom-or-bust year.  He has had some games where he's made incredible contested catches or shoestring grabs, outrun coverage for long TDs, won the game for us.  A lot of his yards are on a handful of deep receptions, which are important.

He's also had some games where he's dropped balls a competent NFL WR really needs to catch.  If we want to talk stats, Davis overall 55% catch rate is poor, and it's not all on Allen throwing him contested high-degree-of-difficulty balls.  His 10% scored drop rate is abysmal, and he has 5 INTs against him.  Several of those INTs are not on him - if Josh threw a different ball it woulda been a TD, and I think Davis was probably right and Josh wrong in how he read the coverage on the Jets INT.  But I think some are on him.  There's some charting out there where at times he seems to be running the wrong route on a play, or a different route than Josh expects him to run, or run the route in a way that allows the DB to jump the route.

Then there was that tip on the onside kick....

Now maybe all of that is true for #2 WR on other teams, but for many of the top teams I don't think so.  I think their WR is usually a more consistent guy.

To be fair, the Bills are riding Davis into the ground.  He is out there almost every offensive play, being asked to chip or block if he's not running a route.  It's possible he'd run better routes more consistently if the Bills let him catch his breath now and then.

Consistency is the concern.  He’s not a WR2 if he needs limited snaps to catch his breath and perform.

Joe Marino posts a ton of content but his postgame pod for the Bills Lions Thanksgiving game deserves it’s own thread.

So many members of the Mafia are upset, confused, and discouraged right now. The way he breaks down exactly what’s going on is masterful and he hits the nail on the head on point after point.

One of his firsts points is simply the fact that Josh has had only a few practices for these last 3 games starting with just one limited practice before the Vikings game. How the lack of practice sessions have stunted the ability to get Hines installed in the offense properly. How, despite how none of us are in love with the way the Bills offense or Josh is playing right now, we still rank #2 in the league in average points and yards per game over these last 3 ugly games.

He touches on so much more including a lot dealing with the defense and most key players individually. I love his perspective and feel most Bills fans would appreciate this content.

Classic glass half full, all is OK, excuse after excuse.

Josh hasn’t played up to what he is capable of, has been very inaccurate at times, and made some poor decisions that we haven’t seen since his rookie year.

Why can’t we just accept that?  Rather than spin it and point the finger elsewhere.

Let’s just hope he gets it going when it truly matters in December and into the post season.

Stefon Diggs might be the best possession receiver in the game.  Having a second WR who's mostly a deep threat isn't a problem.  We just haven't seen nearly as many of those splash plays as we thought we might after the KC game last year.

Sure, but he has ONLY been a deep threat when it comes to impactful plays.  That’s not ideal for your WR2.

It’s really disheartening and disturbing these last 5 games how many have turned against Allen. Guy gives it his all and puts his heart and soul on the team. Has he played reckless? Yes he has. But the team around him outside of Diggs has not helped him much at all. Davis is not the true number 2 WR that we all hoped he would become after his playoff stint against the Chiefs. Knox has also taken a big step back since getting his new contract and that’s becoming a growing theme not only for us but to every team around the league. Also the o line has regressed and large part due to injuries. Chances are we’re going to need a new center and move on from Morse.

to all those who dislike Allen now. Just remember what we had for 17 years before Allen came to us. Remember Bledsoe, Losman, Fitzpatrick and Edwards, Van Pelt etc

I don’t think it’s a “turn against Allen”.  He hasn’t played to the level he is capable of.  There’s nothing wrong as fans to call that out.  What’s more disturbing are the fans that believe Allen is never the problem.

Going into the season, a lot of the buzz about the offense was about Gabe Davis "taking the next step" and becoming a big time WR2. Now, a significant portion of fans say he is a disappointment.

I think a fair expectation going into the season to be considered a top end WR2 would be a season with 60-70 receptions, 900-1,000 yards and 7-9 TDs.

Davis missed 1 game due to injury, so in the 10 games he has played he now has 33 receptions, 650 yards and 5 TDs. How does that compare to expectations?

    • He ranks #22 in receiving yards per game, and the only WR2s ahead of him are Waddle and Higgins.
    • Only 10 WRs have more TDs
    • At 65 yards per game, that extrapolates out to 1,105 over 17 games. If he averages 65/game the rest of the year, it would be 1,040 in 16 games.
    • He has 5 TDs in 10 games played so if he keeps up that pace he will have 8 TDs.
    • The receptions are lighter, he would end at 53 at 3.3/game

Yes, the drops are not good, but if you were asked before the beginning of the season would you take a 53-1,040-8 stat line for Davis this year? I am guessing almost everyone would, especially if you said Diggs was going to also have the year he's having.

I have thought for a long time a lot of Bills fans overvalued Don Beebe, whose career highs with the Bills were 40 catches ('94) and 554 yards ('92). Davis is moving into undervalued territory.

Those numbers don’t tell the whole story as he has repeatedly been boom or bust and extremely inconsistent.  How much of that is Gabe vs. Josh vs. gameplan/scheme is hard to say.  He was crowned a little early IMO. This offense desperately needs a possession type WR2 and Gabe hasn’t been that guy as we all hoped.
