  1. but of course all are welcome to participate

anyone listen to the interview on monday? I thought he asked pretty good questions, and I was very impressed at how she answered them and handled herself...

what i wasn't prepared for, was this

sometimes its hard to look past the 'nonsense' to see the substance. She has some serious talent...and the story that accompanied this song was really pretty moving..

While I am not gonna become a lady gaga fan...I have absolutely gained a great deal of respect for her talents....

I liked the interview and was impressed with Gaga's singing. She also did a good job at steering Howie away from the sex questions.

  2. So, couple of suggestions for you.

First here is the Metro site. Plug in any address to plan your trips.

Now, if you are a beer and food guy, can not go wrong with Church Key. Be a bit of a walk from Metro, with a change of trains, and it's hot as a B word..but the beer and food here outstanding. It gets wicked crowded, but this time of year things tend to be not so crowded.Churh key is the bar for Birch and Barley.

Estadio right down the street is excellant Tapas and also vey good.

Or, if more of a wine guy , you could go to Proof. Just take the Metro Green Line to Chinatown, this place about a block away right down strett from the Verizon center. If looking for more of a beer bar with bar type food..RFD right across from Metro..more bar food type place

Or you could drive to Bethesda and go around the Bethesda Row area.

Wish i could help more in Greenbelt..as far as I know it is a chain restaurant wasteland. I must say I have not been in Greenbelt in at least 10 years.

Tons of other recoomendations can make depending on waht you want to do.Just PM me

Hi guys, thanks for the advice. I ended up having to go to a work dinner in Bowie, MD. I think I will use these suggestions next time and just get on the train and head to DC.

  3.

Whatever, homey. You clearly don't live in Chicago, so you have no idea how traffic works in our city. Stop trying to convince me I'm wrong when it's part of my daily routine and has nothing to do with you. I don't come to your place and insist I know how to treat anal fishers, do I? No, that's your ballpark.

Where in Chicago are you driving your bike? I drive in Chicago everyday and do not like bikes who disobey traffic rules.

  4. I love how loving the best makes you a fanboy.

Apple is the first major player (note I didn't say first company altogether) to make a full touchscreen phone for the mainstream. EVERY phone after that has been playing catch up (see: copying Apple). Apple comes out with the first mainstream tablet computer, and once again, followers trying to catch up. I love how people say the Xoom is better.... yeah, have fun with your 20 apps. Apple simply does it better. It's not being a fanboy to praise what is great.

I've posted this before but I have had well over 30 cellp hones. The iPhone is THE BEST. I've had the Droid X, The droid Incredible, the first Droid, I've had blackberrys, including the AWFUL blackberry strom (whoa, it clicks) and I actually owned the palm pre (that lasted 4 days).

The fact is it comes down to Apps. And I LOVE that apple must approve all apps. One of the biggest arguments FOR having a droid is the "open market". Exactly how many fart apps do you need? There's a reason every company you see advertising an app has it on the Apple App Store.

The fact that I have the iPhone on Verizon makes it just so much better.

    But keep on hating.

Stoj, apply for a job a CNet.com doing phone reviews.

  5. My flying pet peeves:

    1) People who wait until they get right up to the x-ray machine before they start disrobing. I untie my shoes, put my belt, wallet, phone, watch, etc, in a backpack before I even get in the security line.

    2) People who neatly fold jackets and put them in the overhead compartment, knowing it's a full flight.

    3) People who get try to get in front of you while de-planing, even if you are ahead of them.

    4) People who HAVE to go to the bathroom during short flights (1-2 hours). STOP BOOZING RIGHT BEFORE YOU GET ON THE FLIGHT AND HOLD IT. The only people who should use the bathroom during short flights are kids and old people.

I also agree w/plez, I don't mind the baggage fees. If airlines keep making money then they should stay relatively competitive.

  6. Do not buy a Samsung. My dad has two LCDs from Samsung, they have a designed flaw with their capacitors. They put capacitors that are not designed to withstand the amount of current that passes through them. They will fail right after your warranty expires. The fix is a $10 radio shack capacitor and some soldering, but you have to know what you're doing. My dad did this on his 52 inch LCD.

He also had a bad experience with another samsung LCD that he returned for warranty repairs and had it sent back severely cosmetically damaged. Samsung did not do anything to recoup this damage.

I have a Vizio and I am happy with it. Great bang for the buck.

  7. Two wax rings is one solution, I think they may have an expanded or fatter wax ring for this application as well.

Another more complex route would be to see if you could extend the flange 1/4 inch. This would entail removing the existing flange and replacing it with an extended one. With old cast iron or galvanized, that can be a real pain.

I would try the extended or doubled up wax ring first, then attempt the new flange if that fails. check with the guys at home depot. I get some of my best tips from these guys at HD. Many of them are semi retired plumbers, electrician, carpenters who are very helpful.

If you have a newer house and your closet flange is made of PVC, I think they even sell rubber gasket sealers to be used instead of the wax ring. I've never used one, but it might be less messy for you.

  8. Hi guys, I heard this website advertised on Stern today. I checked out their website and it sounds like a great idea, but too good to be true. You tell them what you have, they give you an "offer" and then you ship them your goods. After they evaluate it, they send you a check for the transaction.

    Has anybody tried this site?

Mods - could you keep this on OTW for a couple of days before you move it to the consumer forum?

  9. Stoj, I love your cell phone posts. How much money have you spent on cell phones in the last ten years?

I don't even know how you have the time to keep getting new phones. I think you got the 1st generation verizon droid when it first came out in Nov/Dec 2009. I remember because that's when I got mine. I still have that same phone and still use it. How many phones and plans have you been through since then?

  10. For those who didn't feel like reading the entirety of the original post, I'll quickly explain the gestalt of my experiment here...

The utility of food is for survival. But for humans with means, it is a luxury...a beneficient shared experience of the human condition. Food fills something of a similar role in our culture to music, entertainment media, reading, etc. Something we indulge in.

But what if we stopped indulging? What if food was nothing more than the means to an end, like it is for the rest of the living world? Would the remainder of our human experiences become that much more significant? Well, I plan to check that out.

So you're going to indulge on alcohol?

  11. To those who asked, there are no beverage restrictions. In fact, a pound of lentils each day only accounts for about 1,000 calories, so it will probably be necessary. Is it in the spirit of the experiment? Who knows?

And yes, one concern is my social life, especially women. But I prefer those females who are a little bit...let's say...off, anyway haha.

So you are only going to eat lentils but you can booze as much as you want?

  12. Don't want to go through a body scan, pat down, or X-ray machine before boarding a flight? Then !@#$ing drive. Everyone is so concerned about their "personal privacy" until planes start flying into buildings containing US citizens. Funny how "never forget" means 9 years. Flying is a privilege, not a right.

    AMEN.
