Not that this is a surprise, but a good year from Hairston would make a huge difference.  Improvement from last year's top 2 picks would also be very welcome.

I'm going to assume he's going to be at least serviceable.  Need a defensive pick to be good and we'll have a superbowl shot.  Lots of good teams in the afc though.

  2. I feel like Beane drafts high floor low ceiling players.   Likely, this draft will be the same.  We need someone to break through on defense.  We need a game wrecker.  I don't think we got one though Hairston has a chance.

    Well... B-)

Full disclosure he's not my favorite prospect in this Draft. But that's mainly because I was scared off big time by the talk of his back injury and the rumors...and as far as I know they were just rumors...that this could be a re-occurring thing...

Walker just turned 21 on March 11... He's a young prospect... Team Captain... He is massive, but only a 3.74 RAS athlete.

If you are going off his 2023 tape Walker is a solid 2nd Round 1T prospect with real nice upside. He flashes disruptive quickness and power into the backfield and he's such a massive dude he can just ragdoll RB's... But it's almost impossible to know exactly what happened in 2024. He was clearly heavier and he played with a back injury (he was already down to 331 at the Combine). He has a tendency to play upright as it is, and it was even more evident in 2024 when the added weight and the back did not allow him to play with the necessary bend and power. He commented in his interview just now the back was a big problem for him last year. He said there was days he could not get out of bed.

The fact that the Bills traded up for him tells me they are not concerned with the injury issues. He just said in his interview the back is fine and he's 100%... No way they do what they just did if they think there is going to be a lingering problem there. He's a massive human, and as far as a projection, purely as a back-up you have to think the Bills feel they just got a lot better if they got the healthy Walker from 2023. He's an upside player, but he needs a ton of coaching... The Bills love players like this though. Unfinished with upside. They are not afraid of player like Walker. And if he hits, they have a monster.

This Defense has really, really changed.

Where's our pass rusher for when Bosa gets injured or needs a massive raise after his one year rental.

I want an AJ upgrade big time. Need a second DT and second CB , safety project  later

     key words are the bolded.

allen2moulds is right onto something there :)

Yeah, good point.  Bosa will probably get hurt at some point.  Didn't our rook from last year have some potential though?  I'm blanking on the name.

  5. Here are my hopes for the Bills strategy.  Starting/difference making players at CB and DT, and if the draft falls well WR, S, and LB.  Then depth and special teams.  I think there's a decent chance we can get 3 starters.  The only thing I don't know is where the needs lie after CB and DT.  Do we need a S more than LB?  Probably, unless there's injuries at LB but there always are.  A WR that has separation would be great but not an absolute need.

only player to trade up for.....mason graham

I'm actually starting to get wary of Michigan's DT's.  Could they have excelled so much because they have 2 beasts playing together?  I'm not saying this is the case but just something i've started worrying about.

if our new DB coach likes him (having coached him)  I say sign him and see how he does in camp.  Worst case you cut him.  Best case he wins CB2 or 3

agree. Jones should be immediately CB3 on the depth chart at worst….and above Dane

I dont mind bringing in an ultra athletic guy to see if his career can be resurrected.  Like you said, he can be released if it doesn't work.

  8. Good, hopefully one of them makes it to us so we don't have to trade up.  I hope we go DT instead of CB.  We seem to do just fine taking corners later anyway.  Don't get me wrong, if there's a stud CB go for it.  But if not I see DT as a slightly bigger need.
