I disagree that we are only winning because of Josh. But I do think we are considered to be an elite team (at least outside of this board) in large part due to him. That's pretty much life in the NFL.

I disagree that Burrow and Josh have the same abilities. Josh can do things that Burrow is physically incapable of. Burrow does things that either Josh can't or won't - not sure whether that's on Josh or the coaches - coaches have been the popular choice lately.

Burrows has huge cajones as a QB.  He does some things that Josh simply does not need to do, because of Josh's physical talents.  Burrows can't do anything Josh can't do.

I’ve seen enough talent from Josh to know he has the same abilities as Mahomes and Burrow. So that got me thinking why such a disparity. Then I do a roster to roster to roster comparison and begin to realize that the difference is coaching and talent. It’s not a Josh Allen problem. We are only winning because of him. You put him on a team like SF or Philly and you are talking about a multi year dynasty.

You seem to understand what you see. Kudos.

Bills fans have been through the tough times and still supported this team they’re not going anywhere

And if you just got here, you’re a bandwagon fan

Well I started going to Bills games in the 80's and then when I got too old, i shifted to watching on TV. I am not sure if that is your definition of a bandwagon fan or not..

    100% how I feel too.

Love and respect those guys for coming in and turning around a broken organization. They made winning and playoff experiences expected again.

Am thrilled they found us a real franchise QB, AND locked him up long term. Made a few good trades.

That is a lot to accomplish. But not sure how much further they can go. I'll leave it at that.

no need to be grateful for life because someone was competent at their job.

IF we are smart, this can also be used to our advantage. Just when you think you know what’s coming….

We knew losing Daboll would hurt, but it was a little worse than I expected.  I hope Dorsey can be a quick learner and is willing to adapt.

I feel as though the Bills would do well to follow the Bill Walsh system of scripting their first 20 plays so that they can make sure they are not predictable.

I think it’s also fair to question why we make running a screen play look more difficult than landing a man on Mars. This is a serious question for any of you X’s and O’s guys. Why can a decent high school program do that more effectively than the Bills? Are we tipping it somehow with formation or personnel groupings or something?

I’m more positive than most people (especially in this thread), but that is very confusing to me.

During the second half of the season, it seemed as though the defense knew the Bill's offensive play call more often than not.  Coincidentally the national media ran stories about the Bills "tells".   For example over 95% of the plays Diggs was off the field were running plays.  it seems like predicability is a killer. Fortunately Allen can run for his life and extend plays to compensate for the predictability problem.

could that coordinator position be improved?

That is the correct question about all of the coaching positions.  Many Bill's fans carry scars and are only willing to ask the question:  Could the coaching be worse?

It seems at this time the Bills as an organization are willing to let "very good" be the enemy of "excellent"

My concern is McDermott is emotionally and intellectually stuck in rebuild mode, and won't be able to further the team beyond that mentality.

IMO it takes a certain type of leadership to rebuild a franchise and another to win a Super Bowl and I am unsure as to whether McDermott can make that transition.

I think it is the fans who get stuck emotionally.  NFL football is a game where everyone has to follow the same rules.  Some people are just better at the game than others.   For example, this is the Rams situation Sean McVay walked into in 2017:

    image.png.94ade2467e4190fe51c8148691014c57.png

He is good at football coaching, 2 NFC Championships and 1 Super Bowl during his first four years.  This followed a thirteen year playoff drought, and without the benefit of an elite QB.

Zac Taylor came into this situation following 15 years of Marvin Lewis Mediocrity.

    image.thumb.png.975e85b7de27da2827f9bcb39c3b78ea.png
He appeared in two AFC championship games his first four seasons winning one.

Bills had so many horrible coaches, that some people actually think the standard NFL new hire is simply horrible, and that is nearly impossible to have a good hire.  The Bills history skews the thinking.

I don't know that a McDermott replacement would be better, but I would be shocked if the results were worse, as long as Josh Allen remains healthy.

The QB market was set to go crazy once Watson signed his deal.  People thinking that contract is going to be treated like an “outlier” are crazy.  That deal is going to be the standard and Burrow and Lamar’s contracts are will come close to that number, if not exceed it.

Beane deserves credit for locking up Josh after 3, when you could argue that the more pragmatic move might be to wait another season to make sure his breakout year wasn’t a fluke. It saved them a lot of money in the process.

Of course as the contracts are getting bigger, at some point Allen and Mahomes are going to want a new deal.

L.Jackson is not getting that number.

At this point I really feel McDermott is wasting Josh prime years. Someone a week or two ago started a thread about McDermott not having a killer instinct. I agree with that, he is a passive person with tempered emotions. Got to have a killer instinct with a QB like Josh. Need to destroy teams and intimate. McDermott isn’t that guy. IMHO.

People will have hard time understanding a tennis to football analogy.  But the Bills defense is like a great baseline player who can out rally most opponents but can't ever beat the top serve and volley guys.

It is very hard to win championships and that involves some level of luck (avoidance of bad breaks, injuries, bad calls, etc).  Every team should strive to win a championship, but really all any organization can do is put together the best possible team they can and compete.  Having the most talented team or the best coach is often not enough.  Some (much?) of the disappointment in the Bills this year is related to the false belief that they clearly had more talent than any other team and therefore, it must be that someone f*cked up because they failed to win it all.

I believe that the Bills are currently in the top group of organizations in terms of how well they are run.  Are they perfect?  Of course not, but neither is any other team.  I think it would be a major mistake to get rid of Brandon Beane or Sean McDermott.  The Bills are competing at the level of the very top teams right now.

The are definitely a consistent top 25% of the league team.

He was mediocre as a passing QB:  3200 (25th), 15 (tied 21)  6.8 YPA (tied 23).  He's in the range of Jimmy G, Mariota  and Tannehill----and this is his best season since rookie.

How much will a team pay for that? If the Giants don't sing him, that brings his value down, I think. He is most valuable to them in that system.  But if Barkley goes, they are sunk with Jones at QB.

His game against the Vikings may have put him in a position to Rob Johnson either the Giants or some other unsuspecting team.  Or ithat game could have been a sign of things to come, that was interrupted by a team with 70 sacks this regular season. Time will tell.

The average golfer is old and completely unathletic so yes he may be better than average but that's not saying much. Golf is fine for us normal Joe's but if I was a world class athlete at something I would probably not enjoy being bad or average at something else that a normal guy down the street could beat me at

You seem like a fun guy.

Golfing and tennis are bad on your elbow. He's also a terrible golfer so I'm not sure what his fascination is with the sport. I'm not one to hit a ball and then chase after it but friends that do enjoy that sort of thing watched "the match" and said Joshy should stick to his day job

He's a well above average amateur golfer and does it for fun.
