Here's the WSJ worrying that things are too good and can't last. It seems that nobody on the right (old or new) can be happy these days.

America’s Economy Is No. 1. That Means Trouble.

If you want a single number to capture America’s economic stature, here it is: This year, the U.S. will account for 26.3% of the global gross domestic product, the highest in almost two decades.

That’s based on the latest projections from the International Monetary Fund. According to the IMF, Europe’s share of world GDP has dropped 1.4 percentage points since 2018, and Japan’s by 2.1 points. The U.S. share, by contrast, is up 2.3 points.

China’s share is up since 2018, too. But instead of overtaking the U.S. as the world’s largest economy, the Chinese economy has slipped in size to 64% of the U.S.’s from 67% in 2018.

You sound like my mother. 75 degrees, sunny, gentle breeze. Me: what a fantastic day! Mom: but not for long! The weatherman says it may snow next week.

    Bloomberg:

GDP advances an annualized 1.6%, slower than all projections

First-quarter core inflation measure accelerates to 3.7% rate

    Frankish:

    Of course! All good!

    Different thing.

The housing market: for every loser (the young person paying a high price for a home), there's a winner (the old person making a mint and retiring somewhere warm).

On the macro economic scale, an overheated economy means inflation. We just had that. The Fed raised rates to try to get things back in balance. So far it seems to be happening. Why is this bad? Inflation was bad, the cure for inflation is bad, everything is bad ...

It seems that people noticing everything around them is the one thing you actually find bad.

One man's slowing in growth is another man's soft landing (and associated Fed rate cut).

But hey, keep that glass half empty ...

You are the one that believes the housing market is in good shape because some sellers may reap generational wealth, correct? Kudos are in order for belonging to a very exclusive group with that thinking. But hey, keep that glass about 1/10 full

    A matter of statistics.
“Mainstream Media” = maybe a couple dozen sources max. Do they get everything right, right away? Of course not. Maybe they hit .900. Or .800.
“Alt Media” = thousands of sources. Ridiculous conspiracy tweeters like Pizzagate Jack. Opinion twitter monkeys like those often cited here, offering a hot take on some MSM story. Completely fake propaganda sites posting from Russia. Cherry pick the good ones (nobody here does) and you may approach MSM reliability. But just assume that a National Enquirer or Pizzagate Jack story/tweet is reliable? I even see Alex Jones cited here. I don’t know the batting average, but “Mendoza Line” is probably applicable.

Nobody is suggesting you not run with “reliable” to describe what we are getting from Fox, MSNBC, CNN, NYT, WaPo, and the rest. Hoo boy…

    Yes they do too.
if someone points out a popular lefty talking point, I will be glad to add my thumbs up 👍

I think that may just be enough to change the discourse

Do you believe the constant use of “privilege” be it white privilege, male privilege, cis privilege, beauty privilege, non-immigrant privilege, or any other ridiculous use of the word stems from people that lean right or left?

Or do you find the use of “lawfare” by trumpist tweeters to be more prevalent and therefore more annoying?

Of course there was. All the Trumpist tweeters started using it all at once.

Just like our obedient little lambs all shifted from "socialist" or "leftist" or whatever to "communist" overnight. It's their own kind of beta testing, but it's so insular that it never gains traction outside of their tight little circle.

Only those on the right engage in this. 🤦🏽🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♀️

    good heavens

And the headline is misleading because ... what?

    It reads "Says Gaza Defense."

I know you mounted a half-hearted defense of Big Media a little bit earlier but it’s my opinion that running a headline like this, while factual, is certainly slanted to manipulate the reader into thinking “Israel bad”. It’s a story that CNN admits within cannot be confirmed. The word “Hamas” does not appear.

As someone that removed Jews from the discussion while trying to argue on behalf of University presidents that were unwilling to declare harassment of Jews as being against university policy, it doesn’t surprise me that you take no issue here.

    1) if they do, they need to touch grass

    2) You’re sticking your head in the sand if you don’t think racism has a gigantic role in this. It’s present in every single statement that reads something like “the criminals and rapist pouring across the border.”

    3) Agreed on the first point

    4) So…I post something about people helping immigrants, with no claim that I’m one of them, and your first response is “well why aren’t you one of those people?” Very very odd.

Re: 2 - you are burying your head in the sand if you can watch what’s happening at our southern border and declare it’s a matter of racism.

Re: 4 - you will probably learn one day that there is value in putting your money where your mouth is. It’s a matter of credibility. If all you can do is babble on and call other people racists what’s the point?

    1) I’m a Catholic, no need for a “trigger warning” you dork

    2) Calling a spade a spade. It’s been like this for well over a century. Remember “no Irish need apply?” Or the anti-Chinese leagues? This is nothing new, but it’s still wrong.

    3) wouldn’t be a disaster if the GOP didn’t bow to Trump and kill the border bill for his political gain

    4) If you’re not “invalidating” anything, then what is your point? I said they were doing a good thing and your response was “well why aren’t you personally hosting one?!??!”

I support the actions of the people hosting migrants and would do so if I had the space and resources. How is this a difficult thing to understand?

    1. Several people here get offended by this sort of talk and I wanted to be respectful to them.
    2. This is childish drivel. If everyone concerned about our out of control southern border is a racist then the word racist no longer has any meaning. That’s on you.

    3. Washington Republicans are absolute sh*t bags. in my opinion, they are outmatched in that department by the slimmest margin imaginable by those on the other side of the aisle.

    4. my point was to help you expose yourself a little bit. I would think someone so willing to label others as racists would have a little deeper conviction as far as doing something tangible. Obviously in your case I’m wrong about that.

Still wondering how this invalidates the actions of the 65,000 people hosting migrants. Anytime you want to elaborate.

    This makes zero sense.

I will be happy to elaborate. After I have done so if you would do me the favor of pointing out where I have invalidated the actions of 65,000 people I would appreciate it. Don’t spend all day looking for it though. That would be a waste. Those 65,000 people are doing **TRIGGER WARNING** God’s work. I honor and respect what they are doing. Your contribution on the other hand, is to label people as racist that disagree with your view of the border situation. A situation that even your party leadership will now admit is an all out disaster.

So, because I personally am not hosting a migrant (even though I donate to organizations that support migrants and advocate for immigration reform), the actions of the 65,000 Americans are somehow invalid?

Again, you have a very strange attitude towards people helping each other. Almost like there’s some certain element about these migrants you don’t want in the USA.

It’s a topic that you are obviously passionate about. So passionate that you are willing to label people as racist, but not quite passionate enough to do anything meaningful about it. Don’t worry, you’ve got plenty of company. Carry on young person!
