The Republican party has become a full-fledged anti-sex movement

"The US supreme court justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas cited the Comstock Act, named after the 19th-century anti-vice campaigner Anthony Comstock, in last week’s case about access to the abortion pill mifepristone. If you don’t know who Anthony Comstock was or what his law did, that might not have alarmed you. But it should have."

"Comstock was reputed to be driven by religious shame over ***** to become his era’s most extreme anti-sex crusader. He rose to prominence in the early 1870s, when he convinced Congress to make it a crime to advertise, sell or mail contraceptives or give out contraceptive information, even orally, or to mail anything “immoral” – a term whose vagueness allowed widespread prosecution, including of a feminist newspaper reporting on sexual abuse whose prominent publishers, Victoria Woodhull and Tennessee Claflin, he got sent to prison. Like modern-day rightwingers he was a book-burner, and he boasted that he had driven 15 people to suicide."

"While the backlash to Roe’s June 2022 overturning has been spectacular, with Democratic election victories and blue-state legislation strengthening reproductive rights, that doesn’t spare women in red states from the horrific consequences of the decision.

At this point we all know they include prosecution for miscarriages suspected of being abortions, let alone for actual abortions, and lack of timely care from medical providers, who, fearful of prosecution themselves, sometimes wait for miscarrying patients to go critical from infection or loss of blood before offering care. "

"..[I]n May 2023, the Heritage Foundation declared on social media, “Conservatives have to lead the way in restoring sex to its true purpose, & ending recreational sex & senseless use of birth control pills.”

"The Project 2025 agenda for a rightwing coup, should Trump win this November, declares that the USAid office of gender equality and women’s empowerment “should remove all ... language on USAid websites, in agency publications and policies, and in all agency contracts and grants that include” terms including “gender and gender equality” and should also remove references to “abortion”, “reproductive health” and “sexual and reproductive rights”"

I thought everyone was talking about sex because gay people exist. I guess you were talking out your ear with that one. I can’t keep up.

He knew the risks of the job. Pretty gross how republicans are politicizing it but then, they love finding new lows to stoop to. Disgusting people.

    Cop killed - whatever

    People reacting - disgusting!

That’s a fine position you are staking out. Nice work.

What I'm saying is this: nobody has any evidence in support of the counterfactual, that things would have been better (or at least not any worse) had we just continued with life as usual.

We made mistakes. Understood. But here we are 4 years later having emerged from a pandemic in pretty damn good shape.

I’m just trying to follow your thinking.

You - Partial shutdowns were an “exceptional” step

    Me - Why?

    You - why not?

Currently at 1.187 deaths. So ... the estimate was off by a factor of about 5.

Even if you discount that number by 50% (the old "died with coronavirus rather than because of coronavirus"), that's still over half a million deaths.

We shouldn't forget how awful this pandemic was, and how, despite an initial comedy of errors, we were able to take prudent (and sometimes exceptional) steps to work our way out of it.

What would you consider to be exceptional steps?

In terms of made up celebrations???  Yes, meaningless.   Utterly.  Ohhh I'm sure in your delusional world it's an attack on religion despite him being an actual practicing Catholic.  Lol, old farts getting worked up over nothing.   But, that's your thing eh?

Wow, you’re edgy lol! Not overly clever or witty lol but you’ve got the young guy edginess down lol. Colbert-esque lol. Well done lol!

The president of the United States makes a proclamation for a “made up celebration”, posts it on the social media that has your panties bunched, and you are annoyed at people noticing. But, that’s your thing, eh?

WHY DOES ANYONE CARE WHAT THE PRESIDENT DOES??

    Solid takes you’ve been bringing.

Both things can be true. I’m so glad you remember everything I post, dork

    Only the idiotic things. Sadly….

I did? I recall saying it was an attack on free speech

Something so absurd is easy to remember and to find. In the thread about those horrible nazi soccer moms you wrote:

You’re doing this to attack gay folks. That’s always been the goal.

Maybe you meant free speech but accidentally typed “gay folks”.

It’s good that you put it out of your mind.

How is this attacking Christian values again? Is Biden sending the National Guard to your church to hang up trans flags?

You have absurdly posted in another thread that not allowing “literature” in elementary schools featuring anal/oral to be an “attack on gay people”.

    Hypocrite heal thyself.

No, I didn't notice whatever it is you are trying to say.

I was too enraptured by the photo of Trump without full makeup.

You are certainly approaching Billstime level of obsession. Do you think about Trump upon waking in the morning? If not, what generally gets you started?

It was stupid at the time, and it's been proven even more stupid with the passage of time.

But it also is kind of Trump's position, no?

I am not one to see the world through Trump-colored glasses. I will leave that to you, Billstime, and Tiberius (yikes, that’s hurtful. I apologize in a less than half-hearted way). If that’s Trump’s position it will change by nightfall and every 12 hours between now and November.
