I was an assistant prof. the pay sucked but the students were amazing. As far as I know, all doing well and one spectacularly. I knew he'd be great. The cream always rises to the top. So satisfying. Like English pubs used to be.
now, repeatedly post pics of UVA School of Medicine. You'd be lucky to have one of their grads as your doc.
That’s great. I didn’t know if you were telling a ridiculous, Susan Collins-level lie again.

As of yesterday's close (before today's bad day):
- S&P 500 down 3.64% since election day
- down 7.1% since inauguration day
Let's say your a 45 year old with a million bucks in a 401k on inauguration day, all in U.S. equities. (This is not unusual these days.) You hope to retire at 60.
Congrats, you've lost $71,000.
You can work an extra two years. But hey, maybe we'll have Greenland!
Winning!
Who knew markets had ups and downs? This guy made his money back and then some. Whew!
Winning!
Let’s check back in around Dec 31. -

I used to laugh - I’ll admit it, still do - at things like the Norm MacDonald take on “pride” in enjoying the genitalia of another.
I think I realized “pride” simply means “we’re not embarrassed to admit who we are.” And maybe I needed a parade or two to get it.
And then, as Andrew Sullivan (definitely gay, will leave it to you to determine if he’s self-hating) writes, the TQ2SIA+ people ruined it all.
fine that this guy is “not embarrassed to admit who he is”. There’s zero need to honor it for a second, let alone a month. Nobody is stopping you though.

UVA will be just fine. It's survival of the fittest and they are that in Va. Proud of the UVA prez and proud to have been affiliated with such a noble and revered institution.
Were you affiliated with UVA in the same way that you went to school with Susan Collins?

As Mencken defined it:
“Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be having a good time."
Let me go Redhawk for a minute and talk about myself. I was at a concert last night at a small venue in South Carolina (a very bad MAGA state) There was a big burly gay couple nearby. Nobody gave a sh*t one way or the other about it. When the band broke out pink pony club, I looked their way and one of them was having the time of his life. Absolute joy on his face. Seeing someone that happy is something you don’t forget.
something else a person like me doesn’t forget is when a keyboard warrior scolds everyone to “honor social change even if they need a whole month to do so” and then in short order says “not that kind of change” when it comes to biological men beating up on women. Maybe next June you can give us a little bingo sheet on what things we honor and what we don’t.
between now and then feel free to misrepresent things as you see fit. It’s part of your deal.

I walked passed (actually through) our pride parade today. I saw a lot of happy people enjoying themselves in a pretty wholesome way. Honestly, other than the flags they had (and one float for some kind of Halloween haunted house thing), it could've been the 4th of July.
Beautiful summer day, happy people.
I'm sure you'd fine something to complain about. Enjoy being miserable.
A good post until you went Redhawk at the end. Truly simple.

Yeah, you hate the cultural center of the United States for some reason.
I’m not a big fan of NYC but don’t shy away from it if there’s an event I want to experience. I just look forward to the day we can all wash our hands of the ideology you and Big Z espouse. What quicker way to accomplish that than letting this guy loose for four years?
Think of it as an educational opportunity for the young people that support him.

On one hand, I’d be thrilled if these people finally learned the consequences of their actions. On the other, thousands of innocents will suffer. The excitable posters here have been posting this sort of thought for ages. It never comes to fruition. Wonder why. Probably because it’s based on emotion.

have you been there? talked politics in a pub? At any rate, this was about an act at Glastonbury which was roundly condemned. Never been but I've watched it on youtube. So awesome!
“Hey, I’ve talked politics in a pub! I’ve got my finger on the pulse of a nation that is jailing people for “hate” speech!”

Covid clearly came from a lab. Doesn't make the current administrations behavior any less autocratic. You make such simple minded arguments.
There’s a term for Trump’s political style: authoritarian populism
Researchers at UC Berkeley’s Othering & Belonging Institute identify defining traits of the type of politics leaders like Donald Trump and Giorgia Meloni employ.
You mean THE Othering and Belonging Institute in Berkeley?? Say it isn’t so!

Did Jack Poso provide a link to the video of those two high-agency males going at it?
Can I access that link in Texas without providing age verification?
I hope you used the last few weeks to get edumacated.
I liked it last year at this time when you told us we need to celebrate even if it took a whole month to do so. That was fun. Then you said it wasn’t necessary to celebrate Leah T beating women in the pool. The picking and choosing has to get complicated.

It's like when the Republicans first nominated Trump and GOP leaders were just speechless.
No doubt about it, this is a disaster for Democrats, and New York City. If Democrats want to defeat Trump and his copycats they had better get their own house in order
You have been showing signs of sanity lately. Is everything alright?

One of the fun things about recognizing that most MAGA voters are just actually dumb is that when you point it out to them, they respond with non-sequitors because actually realizing that they are pawns of the elitist billionaire class requires them do the impossible task of thinking for themselves.
You made more sense with “human trafficking” and “everyone’s talking about sex because gay people exist”.
It’s everyone else that is dumb though. Whatever you have to tell yourself.
Someone as sharp as you should know how to spell non sequitur. It happens - preferably not in the course of trying to prove yourself superior. Oh well.

Americans generally dislike the “Big Beautiful Bill”, including Republicans.
If voters hate the bill, but the GOP pushes it forward for some reason, maybe MAGA voters will start to think* about who really is in charge of the movement?
*Just kidding. Anyone still in the MAGA movement is incapable of independent thought. They stopped any brain function to focus all resources on licking boots.
Do you remember when you were spinning in circles trying to defend Joe’s handling of classified documents over a long period of time? Was that bootlicking you were doing? Seems like it might have been.

I posted the link originally. Come on, man
Thank you. I went back to the original post and the link you provided. Would you be willing to do the same and show me where it discusses stagflation as a BEST case scenario? I couldn’t find anything even remotely resembling the claim. Seems like you made it up.

Higher prices and less inventory
The latest inflation data came in hotter than expected, and Nike warned in its earnings on Thursday that prices will be going higher due to tariffs.
Across the U.S. retail and manufacturing distribution chains, inventory has started to be re-ticketed with higher prices, by between 8%-15%, according to ITS Logistics, including for apparel and consumer product goods.
The footwear industry says it expects prices to rise by between 6% and 10%.
It’s not just higher prices but less inventory
With current concerns about trade uncertainty and consumer softness, retailers and manufacturing clients are managing inventory by shrinking SKU counts and importing fewer SKUs they are keeping. The Bureau of Economic Analysis reported that gross domestic product shrank by 0.5% in the first quarter of 2025.
“The overall inventory footprint is smaller,” said Martin. “You are looking at three months of inventory on hand now versus six.”
Supply chain data from the warehouse sector and the growing number of empty shipping containers at ports are pointing to a more mild peak season (the summer buildup of inventory for the back-to-school and holiday shopping periods).
Warehouse inventory levels are down 6% month over month, according to the Logistics Managers’ Index.
Comparing readings from the first half of June to later in the month, growth in inventories started to slow down, which suggests that an increase in early June was temporary, according to Zachary Rogers, associate professor of supply chain management at Colorado State University. “Because of how long it takes inventories to move through systems, we haven’t seen any big shifts in transportation yet,” said Rogers. “Warehouse capacity did move from mild contraction to mild expansion.”
The data for the full month of June is not in yet, but Rogers said it is highly unlikely the results would change in any meaningful way. “We’re far enough along that we basically know where they’ll end up,” he said.
Is stagflation still viewed as the BEST case scenario? Seems like you made that up.

They can paint any picture they want of Biden, but the image they create doesn't reflect the genuinely good man he is.
Why do you think this genuinely good man never gave his granddaughter the time of day? Seems like the kind of thing a genuinely good man would do. I guess he had a reason for shunning this innocent young girl.
