  1. I wonder how do you handle such a thing? I was opening my mail this morning, ( had to come home for Ordination) and noticed a letter from Spain. On opening it found a letter addressed to me from two people I had never had any contact with of any kind ever. The purported themselves to work at a bank. The bank at present was holding in account $77 million , which they claimed was a estate of a person having the last name as I, who had tragically died in a auto accident along with all his family. Nobody had come to claim this money, these people proposed quote "business relationship whereby I contact bank and declare myself as relative to claim money, these folk would take 60% and I 40 % of said $70 million dollars. The letter asks I contact them so that they may have my information so they may deposit the money in my account. I am not to tell anyone of this arrangement. -Naturally I took the letter to my local police, who told me this sort of letter is sent everywhere via mass mailing , the thought being that the cost of mailing is just the cost of doing business for these sort of scam artists, they do and will find a person or persons to scam. The police simply told me to tear up the letter it is happening all over the country. I have a Mother who is 88 years old at times at home alone and vulnerable to such types , we are not worldly people. With the various 800 numbers calling and now these sort of mailings we certainly live in scary times, where we need be very careful. This letter I received a evident scam, its troubling that seemingly there is no way to go after these people. First it was at times being very careful as to when I picked up the telephone,as it could be information harvesters or worse now these sorts are doing mass mailings.
  2. whew... I thought I was going to have to have a tantrum

  6. Little Beaver, nice hair... Sweet Daddy Siki, Cool Sunglasses , colored hair long before punks style Whipper Willie Watson, great early wrestler Macho Man Randy Savage and Elizabeth, They were such a team then she turned on Him Bobo Brazil, his Coco Bonk was most devastating
  7. Head shots are wrong and are a sign of current players lack of respect for each other and many not knowing how to body check. Hitting is and always has been part of the game , but players currently hitting with lack of respect or regard for each other is part of todays game, and not a good part of it. What Orr and others say here is valid
  8. great guys and one woman
  9. The Toronto Maple Leafs have won 11 Stanley Cups, its not a claim but a fact, Toronto teams have won 14 as the record shows, none of it claims, they are facts. Take some time to read the history of the name Toronto Maple Leafs and perhaps you may not dismiss it as just a moniker, it does mean very much to many , many people. It is what it is.
  10. You have a fine day tomorrow the group Tom....
  11. Remember the thread regarding Bills fans punching out a Patriot fan in a John. True anyone should be repulsed that a man was beaten by a group of people, but certainly because it reflected poorly on Bills fans , Bills fans were more concerned, I think you very well understand the case is similar regarding Christians being disappointed in another said to be Christians behavior as to often it reflect badly on all , giving ammunition for those not disposed.
  12. Hello Dave, nice to speak with you. The earliest Toronto team was called the Blue Shirts, the League was called not the NHL but the NHA, a man called Eddie Livingston owned them. He was really a persona, he did not get along with many of the other owners. Read this link perhaps in reading the history some, you will understand the the dynamic of the time better than I can tell Leafs and Toronto Hockey history ( If you can get your hand on the new book by Susan Foster called "The Power of Two" , it tells of Carl Brewers battle in the hockey owners and the ousting of Alan Eagleson , he in consort with Russ Conway and others, intersting book, that after reading one must ask if the "new NHL" , really "The New NHL" or business as usual.) regarding Yonge Street, my guess is one could get jumped wearing a white shirt with "have a nice day" printed on it.
  13. There is no argument, the Leafs have won 11 Stanley Cups, that fact you feel is in your face is your problem. That the Sabres were not around is a big so what. And I do not believe you when you say , (if the Sabes do win a Cup in the next few years) if in , shall we say twenty years another expansion team fans wanting to validate themselves as being superior, looked only in front of their nose and claimed the Sabres inferior, I think also you will point the Sabres having won something, "settle down", frankly its part of the perks of winning. (the Sabre Leaf competition is one sided in terms of animosity, not to be rude, but Leaf fans pay very little attention. I trust you understand I am not arguing with you, as I do root for the Leafs but also in my point of view the Sabre team is composed of excellent players both in terms of skill and more important character, they seem good individuals. The Sabres themselves I would be happy to see win Cup, but I fear few Sabre fans will have class enough to handle it as far to many will spend more time talking smack than enjoying the monemt. ) My guess is those Leaf fans who talk similar smack are also ones who never lived in the time of Leaf Cups, or they would get it, in the good feeling and accomplishment of doing so bad feeling have no place it.) Enjoy the moment, you just dont know when it will come around again...
  14. You are seriously wanting to invalidate hockey from 1912 – 70. I gather you have visited the hockey hall of fame. Have at least read of the great Montreal Canadians, Bruins, Rangers, Red Wings, Blackhawk’s, and Maple Leafs, first called the Blue Shirts. Do you do the same with Babe Ruth in Baseball, with Bill Russell in Basketball, with Ali in Boxing, Is it only about what you have seen as being valid.. You might enjoy the season. Time will come when the Sabres are a middle of the pack team or lower, it’s the nature of sport, these days you will hold precious the time you seen your team do well, they very well may even win a Cup, and you know the nature of life is down the road a young man will be telling you, its not valid, how will you answer?
  15. Olympic rinks are 200' x 100 , the standard North American rink is 200 - 85. These are the standard sizes that new rinks are built, its possible some older rinks use interesting Math to achieve these figures. grant
  16. Yes I remember it well. This was the turn of the series and having talked to Grapes he agrees. The Bruins we killing the Canadians. I think up 5-0. Wensik and Jonathan and the Bruin then punched them out. But at end of fiight Reisbrough wanting to stand up for his team and show they were not beaten challenged Jonathan to fight him. Reisbrough waving his hands all the Canadians watching, Jonathan and Bruins just pointed score board and laughed at him. The Bruins won that game, but only 6-5 and by the skin of their teeth. The Bruins had beaten them in every which way, but had Jonathan taken care of Reisbrough, Bruins win that series. When you get you foot on a teams neck you got to break it. Reisbrough by standing up, picked up his guys.
  17. In the Fifties, Bruins - Canadians, remember a series every game went into overtime Montreal won in five games. These days the mess on the nets was baggy and cut easily. Montreal won one game in overtime by puck being pushed in through back of net. Another game Boston scored winner but puck went through the net. Photos the next day showed arrow at hole in net puck going through. I always though the Bruins got screwed. From then on into the mid sixties the Bruins were a non playoff team, its wasnt until they started to get stocked with Hap Emms Niagara Falls Flyers, Awry, Westfall, Marcotte, Sanderson. into the mid sixties Bruin fans waited for a young guy from Oshawa generals Bobby Orr. From many years of being bad in a few years they did become very good, finally winning a cup in 1970, I had waited 30 years for this and still waited for these Bruins to even the score of the fifties Bruins. I remember the Canadians bringing up Dryden late in the season. How tall he was, how he leaned on his stick in between plays. Dryden was great, but a bigger reason these Bruins lost was they were a bunch of guys who liked party , they lost to a hungry team with great goalie. These Bruins could have been the best ever, they won two cups but could have won many, many more. To this day the Bruins havent evened the score of the fifties Bruins I remember, Grapes gang was so close , this hurt me just about as much as wide right.
  18. Toronto Maple Leafs Win Eleventh Stanley Cup Game six , Montreal Canadians- Toronto Maple Leafs Baun, Horton, Shack, Armstrong, Bower, Keon, the big M, Bill Hewitt announcing. Three people have announced Hockey night in Canada, Foster Hewitt, Bill Hewitt, Bob Cole. First hockey game was broadcast via telephone, 1923 by Foster. Notice the players, no helmets, Gump Worsley no mask, notice the lack of big shoulder pads, fans able to see players faces clearly. Wood sticks, Makita at the time one of very few to use curved blade. Very few used slapshot. It was how the game should be played. Interestingly Leafs of this time used tactic that later became knows as the trap. Devils hardly invented it. Still players played the game hard , but with sticks down, hitting hard but with respect for each other.
