What would you consider to be unleashing the offense?  Allen threw 46 times in the playoff game, and the only TD the Bills scored was a TD pass from a WR.  The Texans were the 28th ranked team against the pass, and Buffalo managed 1.7 points per possession.  I didn’t see anything conservative about the game plan.  I saw an offense that just couldn’t execute.

I guess what I’m getting at is when Sean seems to sit on small leads, and our OC goes away from things that are working during games, yes execution is part of it, but play calling choices as well have caused us all to wonder why a given play is called at a given moment in a game. The Dallas game was the best play calling game BD had all season imo, it is incumbent upon the OC to put his players in the best position to succeed,  and I don’t believe that was always the case on offense. Jmo I guess.

I look back at the playoff game against Houston, and we settled for a field goal instead of going for the touchdown at the end of the first half.

The offense was moving the ball, and the Bills started that drive on their own 4 yard line. Then for some reason, we let the clock run with over a minute to go, with 2 time outs. Imagine if they had scored a touchdown on that drive. The Texans defense would have been demoralized. I was very angry that we did that, and I thought it would come back to haunt us.

Yes, the defense played bad late in the second half, but not going for a touchdown before halftime was a crucial missed opportunity that we did to ourselves.

I like McDermott a lot, but I want to see him let the offense show that it can be relied on to score at will. I want to see the offense look the way they did in the Dallas game all season.

At some point he is going to have to trust the offense to get it done.  The Dallas game was/is the benchmark of what needs to be a regular occurrence for our offense.

Don’t get me wrong on this, I do think SM is a good HC, but he really does need to unleash that unit and find out what they got. I fully expect Beane to hit big in FA and the draft, and that will help a lot on the offense, imo.

I voted 81-90, and I would personally put them at 90.

I loved Beane's approach to free agency last season and he brought in some good players for us. Overall he has done a remarkable job. Yes, not every player he's brought in has been a home run, but he is doing everything he can to make the Bills a better team.

McDermott's attitude that he brings to the team is fantastic, and the players have bought into the culture. The Bills have become an exciting team to watch again, and I believe that there is a lot more to look forward to and get excited about.

To get into the 91-100 range, they have to win in the playoffs.

Also, I want to see McDermott approach the game on offense with a killer instinct. My one and only criticism of him.

I agree with your thoughts on this, your last paragraph is also a sticking point for me, through their decisions they stopped the O when it was in a role several times.

The Minnesota game was the first time I noticed them doing it, very frustrating to say the least. It is odd and “almost” like SM doesn’t want the offense to get credit for a win.

  4. The XFL as a league primarily comprised of guys who by and large are bad at football, everyone knows this.  So any player that stands out has to be judged in that context. Cam is a marginal PS level player that hasn’t been able to  stick on any PS.
Comparatively,  look at Duke Williams, he has been better, and has a good catch percentage, and a game winning TD catch, and he is considered to be depth at the WR position. So Cam has a long row to hoe, he may get camp invites, but so far he he has not shown to be so good.

In that circumstance it’d be because he actually improved and beat out the other depth guys along with teams play. I seriously doubt it happens since he’s had better coaching and more experience with Daboll’s offense than any other bills receiver. If he hasn’t gotten it by now..... However, I can’t get how long Easley stayed on the roster as a teams standout out of my head. Nor can I ignore the possibility that a rookie shines in return duties and makes Roberts expendable.

At the end of the day I want to see 2-3 WR additions and an upgrade to RB depth. We need playmakers. I can live with Foster hanging around on the bottom of the WR depth chart if he’s making plays on teams, but I’m going to be miffed if there isn’t a massive upgrade to the position overall.

Miffed is a nice way of putting it, ? I agree with you on adding/upgrading to the receivers room. Imo STs should never out way needs on offense,  as has been the case this past season, and we suffered because of that decision making. It would be nice if the bottom end of the receivers roster had over a 60% catch percentage, I don’t think that is to much to ask for.

IDK. If we go into the season with a depth chart of A.J. Green, Brown, Beasley, Aiyuk, Foster and Roberts I don’t think too many people would complain.

When we already have a guy who out performed Bob and two other receivers combined, I would wonder why he was on the team.
It is a case in point of what SM said at the combine, the number one receiver trait is catching the ball, not speed, important as speed is.

Is someone really going to take the position that McDermott can't evaluate defensive back talent?   At this point McDermott could sign a cornerback or safety he met bagging groceries at the local Piggly Wiggly and I'd give him the benefit of the doubt.

Ya gotta remember that there are a handful here that can not come to grips With someone doing something differently than they would, And still being successful, and making lots of money. “Gnashing” of teeth ensues ?

    Maybe it wasn't Norman.

    Maybe it was Manusky.

My only thing about this is bringing in a CB for $6M with Poyer under contract for $2.7M salary this year (and publically feeling underpaid) has to seem a bit like a smack in the face to JP.

Well Poyer made the decision to accept his deal, for the duration of the deal, so if he is going to get all pouty about it thats on him, he knows how this works, and if he actually expected his team to never bring someone who makes more than  2.7 million to play CB then he is not so active in the brain box. He will have his chance at more money when he negotiates his next contact, it’s that simple. His playing very well on his current deal is why he will have that future opportunity. And is it 6 million guaranteed? Or is that if he hits certain levels of performance?

The only 3 signings/trade i have not liked from the start.

    KB

    Star

    Norman

{Shrugs} lets hope Norman comes in and i have to wipe the egg off of my face.

Well at least Star try’s and hasn’t been KB bad, I guess, but few are on that level of bad... ?

SO im never allowed to say wow that is a bad contract ever because its not my money?

That involves any team from any sport, correct?

If the Bills go out and sign Clowney to a 5 year 115 mil deal this year, im not allowed to comment on it because it is not my money?

Not what I was saying, your opinion of the signing is fine, no worse than any thing I would say,  what I’m getting at is lots of players and coaches go thru bad patches, so you can’t discount them completely, except if it’s Kelvin Benjamin of course ?

See this would make sense if his former HC in Ron Rivera wasn't the HC in Washington now.

Didn’t Ron himself just get cut a short while ago for not doing well for the last couple of years? and then take a job with the crappiest organization in the league?
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if JN asked to be cut just to get out of that sh-t show, knowing he would sign with another team.

Lots of player sucked while playing for the skins. ?

So fricken tired of fans acting like armchair gm and that peg money is THEIR money

BEANE HAS EARNED the benefit of the doubt in these things

    lets just see?

It is entertaining to read these sort of takes,  pretending the money is theirs is super funny. This the same MO that Beane has used it the past, just look at last off season for the template, it’s all there.
