1. All I can say is that we better start out 2-0 and finish 4-0 because the middle 10 games look absolutely brutal. 6 of those middle 10 are division rival games, plus we have the playoff-bound Ravens, Rams, and Seahawks with only the Cardinals as a break in-between.

  2. Agree with Practice Squad.

Early on, was considered a RD #4-5 TE with soft hands and quick feet. After the combine and the Wonderlics, he sank to RD#7 material, and everyone passed on him. I'd like to see him get 2 years to memorize the playbook, and see how he does for us in the Red Zone.

Only 2 years to memorize the playbook!? :w00t: What happens if Mularkey decides to add a few new plays? That's at least several extra months of mental training right there. Don't forget on top of all this he also needs to learn the names of the coaches, the address to the Bills organization, the sequential letters on the back of his jersey, etc... Give the guy at least 5 years...ok set the max limit to 10 years. No more.

  3. Actually, I'm not.  I noticed Tasker and Levy were saying, during the telecast of the Lions game, that because of the injury situation, keeping a a guy that just long snaps might not be possible.  The two of them sounded for sure like they thought Neufeld, because he could play TE, longsnap, and play H-back/FB would take Dorenbos' roster spot.  Immediately, I said to myself Bullstevestojan!!!  Dorenbos is an excellent LS and worthy of a roster spot... Neufeld is strictly backup... and if he were to become injured, you've got no-one.  So, I never thought Dorenbos was in danger of losing his job.

Now, the Simonton thing is interesting... I thought for sure that Both Simonton and Shaud Williams would make the team... and Burns would be the odd man out.  I also thought Shelton would be cut in favor of Lawton.... and I still think Lawton will come off the practice squad at some point this season and perhaps make Shelton expendable.  I still don't know why Burns is still on the roster... I can't see any measurable or appreciable contribution this guy makes.  Someone must see something.

    19357

Burns is "supposedly" a very good special teamer along with being a serviceable backup at both HB and FB.

  4. Because they placed him on IR ending his season because of a 4 week injury...of course he's pissed and he has every right to be.  Maybe it's your dream to pick up a paycheck while sitting on the couch but I'd imagine Tavis probably wants to develop as a QB and get a crack as starting one day...perhaps its a pipe dream, but the guy has to shoot for something.

    19335

But his season isn't over. He can reach an injury settlement with the Bills and resign as soon as he's healthy.

Anyway who cares what Travis Friggin Brown thinks? He should be thankful the Bills even gave him a second/third/fourth chance on his sorry career.

  5. I'd have to redig up his combine numbers but he might not have the strength to play tackle. Not to mention he has to learn the position. I'm sure another team might give him another look but I have a feeling Peters will never have much of an NFL career as he is a man without a position.

    19309

Yup. That's exactly it. Peters was too physically slow to play TE and too mentally slow to learn the OL.

  6. And this is different from any other GM in the NFL, how?

Oh these trolls are easily dismissed with calculated facts!  *sigh*

    19248

Just under 40% of TD's day 2 picks are still with the team, though that number could jump up past 50% if Sobieski, Sape, and Fumbling Freddie all make tomorrow's practice squad (assuming Sobieski and Sape are eligible). Of course, the percentage of day 2 picks still with the team isn't the best measuring statistic. For example, certain day 2 players like Marques Sullivan and Dominique Stevenson should be considered successes because they both contributed to the Bills for 2-3 seasons, and this is all one should reasonably expect from a day 2 drafted player. So how about the percentage of day 2 players who made the Bills roster at some point in their football career? Answer: over 85%, if you include the practice squad as part of the roster and assume Fumbling Freddie makes this year's practice squad.

Take this all for what it's worth, but without looking at other NFL teams' draft stats, I think they show TD is doing a slightly above average to very good job during Day 2 of the draft. By the way, I don't believe this is a significant issue to grade an NFL GM. There are more important issues, like day 1 of the draft, overall free agents, undrafted street free agents, hiring decisions with the coaching staff, etc...

So if the trolls want to attack TD, this is not the subject with which to do so.

  7. It makes me wonder if they intend to possibly fill this position with someone cut, or if they bring back McKenzie at the vet min (if he was not there already).  Or will they slide someone over from the left side.

    19246

That is exactly what I was thinking. I think we are now something like $2.5 million under the cap with the Gildon cut. Ritzmann is practice squad material and nothing more. If Schobel goes down to injury, kiss our pass rush goodbye.

  8. I don't think Sape or Sobieski are eligible for the practice squad.  I believe that they were on the roster last year for for the full season.  I think this disqualifies them.

    19227

I'm not quite sure that's how the practice squad works. Eligiblity is based on the active roster participation, not the full roster.

I hope some roster guru out there will shed some light on this subject, in case I am just typing out of my stojan-hole right now.

  9. So far Terrence McGee is the only significant day 2 pick of TD's regime. Maybe Kevin Thomas too. Oh, and Pukecillo if you think he's actually significant.

As of now, it appears that the Bills have cut five fomer draft choices, all mid or late picks: Sullivan, Sobieski, Sape, Stevenson and Smith.  I was suprised about Stevenson; I thought he played well on special teams.

I think these cuts are good evidence that we are failing to find diamonds in the rough in the later rounds.  How many late round picks from the TD era are starting for the Bills?  How many are quality back-ups?

    19224

  10. Yeah Sape is still eligible. I'm not sure if the rule is that you couldn't have been on an active NFL roster for more than 4 games or for more than 9...either way Sape is still eligible.

I believe we can sign them to the practice squad on Monday.

    I'd say it would include:

    Lawton

    J. Smith

    Trafford

    Dixon

Don't know if Sape is eligible...

Then we shop around a bit, I gather.

    19183

  11. 1 Zolman

    2 Lawton

    3 Simonton

    4 Sape....sorry Indy

    5 Prioleau

    6 Dixon

7 Dorenbos......His final trick as a Bill will be to make himself disappear.

    8 Esposito

    9 Burns

    10 Haddad...Sorry Cable

    11 Ritzman (PS)

Now it gets a liitle tougher here.

12 Neufeld or Trafford. I think Neufelds experiance and time at FB will benefit him here. But if its Trafford he'll be on the PS. No way can we carry four TE's.

13/14  Sulky Sullivan or Pussywillow Pucillo. Depth is important I realize but these two aren't even decent depth. Flip a coin. Maybe both?

    15. Freddie Smith? Fumbles in the last game couldn't have helped him.

    18760

My 15 are somewhat similar to yours:

    1. Zolman

    2. Lawton (PS)

    3. Shaud Williams (PS) instead of Simonton

    4. Sape (PS)

    5. Baker (PS) instead of Prioleau

    6. Dixon

    7. Dorenbos

    8. Esposito

    9. Travis Brown instead of Burns

    10. Haddad

    11. Ritzmann (PS)

    12. Trafford

13/14. McFarland (PS) and Greer (PS) instead of Pukecillo and Sullivan

    15. Fumbling Freddie (PS)

My final roster has 1 K, 1 P, 3 QB, 3 RB, 2 FB, 5 WR, 3 TE, 10 OL, 10 DL, 7 LB, and 8 DB. I generally went with experience over rookie preseason standouts (keeping guys like Gildon and Prioleau over guys like Baker and Ritzmann). I don't think the Bills will waste a roster spot with 4 QB's. I also went a little heavy with linemen and a little light with the DB's; the reasoning is that Prioleau can play 5th CB, both Wire and Prioleau can back-up either safety positions, plus Baker and Greer can be slipped onto the practice squad while other players at the line positions probably can't (Sobieski, Pukecillo, Bannan, etc...)

  12. I wish Marv would have ignored Kelso back in the day when he was trying to figure out who to put at FS.......damn that Kelso!  I used to laugh (painfully) whenever I would watch highlights of other teams passing for scores on us.......ten seconds after the guy catches the ball, here comes Helmet Head running in from the side of the television to make the play.

    17871

It was Walt Corey's fault. Not mine and not Marv's.

  13. What the hell kinda name is Kelso's helmet anyway Keary Colbert has 8 receptions for 277 yards with 3 touchdowns in the preason.. I won't even post Evan's numbers and I know it takes 3 seasons for most guys to develop but let's not act like guys haven't came in and had great years as a rookie stop that right now, ever heard of Terry Glenn, Anquan boldin??

    17864

During the REGULAR season, feel free to compare Colbert's and Evans' stats. But until then, shut your piehole and enjoy your 2004 Buffalo Bills.

  14. i just really hope you are kidding...

i dont know whether you are judging Evans on 4 exibition games or what, but how can you throw in the towel so quickly.  IMO Evans hasnt been given a chance.  WIDE OPEN DOWN THE MIDDLE, yeah T. Brown underthrows him by 15 yards...  I havent anything about Colbert.  Is he having a good pre-season or what?  i have no idea.  But i do know he benefitted greatly from Mike Williams on the other side.  He was one guy i DIDNT want to draft.

    17800

You only fuel the idiocy by replying. When people post topics like this, it's best to just sit back and ignore them.

  15. He appeared in two games, but moved to the active roster in October.  So is it being on the 53 man roster or actually being active for a game that makes the determination?

    17733

You have to have been active for less than 4 games to be eligible for the practice squad. So I guess that makes Sape eligible.
