I'd be fine running it back with Motor, Cook, and Hines. It's not like we are going to turn into a run team all of a sudden. We are still going to live or die by the pass. And at this point, there isn't a significantly better player out there than Devin in FA.

Why would we pay more for Sanders or Williams?

    Devin: 4 years, 3,151 yards and 16 TDs on 672 carries (4.7 yards/carry); 971 receiving yards, 4 receiving TDs

    Sanders: 4 years, 3,708 yards and 20 TDs on 739 carries (5.0 yards/carry); 942 receiving yards, 3 receiving TDs

    Williams: 6 years, 3652 yards and 30 TDs on 915 carries (4.0 yards/carry); 1,191 receiving yards, 8 receiving TDs

And before you get too excited about Williams' TD total: he had 17 of those TDs this past season. 15 of those 17 TDs came inside the 7-yard line, 12 of 17 came within the 3-yard line (the other two were 13 yards and 51 yards). He wasn't scoring homeruns for Detroit, they were giving him the ball at the three-yard line and he was punching it in.

Why should we overpay for either of those guys over keeping Devin? Sanders' stats are marginally better than Motor's, and Williams' stats are worse than Devin's overall. Now, if one of them comes significantly cheaper than Devin, I'm fine making the switch, but otherwise, no thanks.

The hope would be that Cook is ready to take the next step and takes over as the #1, Devin is #2, and get Hines more involved (3rd downs, certain packages, etc.). All three of these backs are good catching out of the backfield. I think Dorsey could get creative with these guys, using them more in the passing game (even splitting them out wide at times, etc.). If Cook turns out not to be ready, then Motor is the guy (that we know has a decent floor), with Hines helping more in the passing game.

If we bring in Sanders or Williams (at a decent contract) there will probably be a need to make them the #1 or at least make sure to get them their touches. Could this impede Cook's trajectory? Whereas Cook and Devin have known each other since they were kids, Devin is a team-first guy and good mentor. Devin knows our team and offense. That's a lot of pluses, imo, to Motor. And if he comes cheaper (not sure what each guy is expecting), seems a no-brainer to me.

Now if Barkley, Jacobs, or Pollard didn't re-sign with their teams, I'd be up for talking free agent running backs. But those guys would obviously be an upgrade. I don't see any upgrades with what is left in free agency.

P.S. And to add Zeke into the equation. Last 4 years:

                     Zeke (yds/carry; yds/rec)                  Devin (yds/carry; yds/rec)

    2019                 4.5; 7.8                                                     5.1; 6.7

    2020                 4.0; 6.5                                                    4.4; 7.1

    2021                 4.2; 6.1                                                     4.6; 5.7

    2022                 3.8; 5.4                                                    4.6; 7.4

Imagine Motor's TDs if they could hand it to him at the 3 and watch him score.  That's part of the point really.

I have done it and know about 100 people that have done it....several times.  Boys get competitive and adrenaline, you'll have a guy trying to pass you in the other lane....hit the gas and talk trash with the windows down to your buddy in the next car.  We did it heading home from college probably every time.  The roads on the state lines between Alabama and Georgia are usually empty....long country roads.  We would hit stretches of 100 mph.  This is 20 year old thinking that you're invincible.

This is why when I hear stories about this, even as bad as it is, I get more heartbroken than angry.  Someone died that shouldn't and someone made a terrible a mistake.  A mistake I've made and several others but we were lucky.

I obviously don't do it anymore, people (most) mature and understand reality.  20 year old make stupid mistakes because they don't understand the reality yet.

Exactly.  Frankly, ladies need not reply in this case.

McD's the one that has kept Frasier on for his full 6 seasons here.  It's taken him 6 seasons to figure out what he wants?

On top of that he promoted Frasier to Asst. Head Coach halfway through as well.

He's passing the buck to a now departed Frasier, deflecting any and all heat away from himself.  It makes one wonder if he and Frasier didn't have a discussion to force Frasier to "step away from football for a year" in a completely unprecedented move, with the intent of trying to start deflecting to keep his own job, and apparently, with the decision seemingly being his (Frasier's) to return after the year is up at his pleasure.

    Just sayin' ...

In what adult world has this ever existed?  That whole scenario is crazy.

When it comes to comparing seasons across sports and positions, I think that subconsciously, fans lean towards offense.  That's what makes Hasek's inclusion all of the more impressive.  His level of dominance during this era simply cannot be understated.  "The Dominator" winning the Hart in 97 was akin to Lawrence Taylor winning the NFL league MVP as a linebacker in 86'.  It had been almost 40 years since a goalie won the Hart.  Then Hasek won the damn thing again in 98!  Another somewhat forgotten accomplishment that punctuated his dominant tenure in Buffalo - the 1998 Olympics in Nagano.  He put the Czech Republic on his back, leading the massive underdogs to gold.   I have vivid memories of being away at college in Boston and calling for my dorm buddies to huddle around the TV to watch him in the shootout against the heavily favored Canadian team.   He absolutely stoned a murderers row of goal scorers.   This video is in Czech, but I think it makes it all the more fun to watch as you hear their national pride and excitement.   When this game was over it almost seemed like his shutout performance against Russia in the Gold Medal finals was a footnote.  Simply remarkable.

That man was something else.  You just knew if the Sabres could come up with 2 early goals you could turn out the lights.  1 would often due, 2 and the fat lady was singing.

    Playoffs ...

Edmunds:  0 Sacks, 0 QB Hits, 1 TFL

    Bernard:  Nada

Ford wasn't even on the team, Brown didn't play well.

Singletary 110 yards from scrimmage in both playoff games combined, 0 TDs

Cook 52 rushing yards on 3 ypc, 1 rushing TD in both games

    Moss wasn't around

Davis had one good game against Miami but did almost nothing against Cinci

Knox 85 yards and 1 TD in both games combined

Rousseau 0 sacks, 0 TFL, 1 QB Hit in both games combined

    Epenesa Nada

Oliver 1 sack, 1 TFL, 3 QB Hits in the Miami game (Thompson), Nada in the Cinci game.

Basham 1 sack, 1 TFL, 2 QB Hits in the Miami game (Thompson), Nada in the Cinci game

    Phillips was long gone

That's what you're defending.  Meanwhile, Cinci's draft picks from 2018 - 2022 had great games against us.  I'm guessing that a bunch of Miami's draft picks from that same time frame did better overall than ours did.

Either way, a couple of players had good games against Skylar Thompson.  No one else did at any time.

    You have won the argument

Nah I disagree. I really could not care less what he does. I actaully think there are better players to be had in the draft and FA. His career was nowhere before he got here, he became something here and if he goes to Miami he will 100% regret it and get cut in the next 2 years. Sometimes the fit is more important than a lot of the other ancillary parts.

Good point.  Certainly possible, his age will be a major factor.

Ha. Whereas I am adament he can't play guard. He doesn't have the bend at his size to play inside IMO. Low man wins in the middle. The taller guys who succeed generally have great bend and flexible hips. That isn't Spencer. So between us we might be getting to "he can't play".

I'd keep him at tackle, let a vet - even Ques - genuinely compete at RT in camp. Start the best guy. If this time next year the jury is still out they need to draft a guy (not that I am not open to drafting a guy this year depending on how things fall).

Serious question, what does the RAS score we heard so much about measure?  His feet are slow and he has no bend.  Is he just fast for his size?  That's just not a good reason to consider someone.

I think he actually believes he paid more than Poyer.

IT's not NY taxes FFS.  Most of these guys maintain multiple residences and it's not that hard to make a place like FL your domicile meaning no state income tax.  Come on man.

It's the area, the weather, (for some guys; some don't care at all) and I wonder if there isn't a growing sentiment within the team that our coaching staff ain't gonna get it done.

You pay in the state you earn.

    9 minutes ago, MrEpsYtown said:

These guys should just look over at Jordan Phillips and Shaq Lawson and read the situation. Poyer is a difference maker in this defense. He may not be a difference maker elsewhere. Sure he will get a bag, but his career will toil in relative obscurity and he will be cut in two years.

And seriously, people are afraid of the Dolphins?

You really just made that comparison?  Sorry, that is butt hurt Bills fan coming out.

Check again the only thing he set a record for was fastest 40 for a player over 225 lbs.

The only thing he was best at his own combine was most bench presses.

He had the 30th 20 yard shuttle and 27th 3 cone drill which called into question his agility along with a neck injury in college.

He wasnt the can't miss prospect you are smugly declaring him to be.

Like he said, a lot of stupid people in the world.

Wouldn’t that be a catastrophic mistake. I mean this is someone’s sole purpose for being on this earth — to make the Super Bowl grass perfect. And it was flat out bad.

Yes, absolutely.  It is hard to believe with all the money they put into that field that it was that bad, but here we are...

I've been so sick of the lack of credit for the Eagles OLine

Did Hurst play very well besides his awful fumble? Yes, he did.

But to hear so called "experts" credit him for the 3 rush TDs, all those QB sneaks (did you know he squatted 600 pounds??) I mean, come on!

That first rush TD ALL the OLinemen were 2-3 yards deep in the endzone. Same for many sneak plays. I sincerely don't recall that happening for the Bills in years. Plus Hurst had tons of time to throw as well. The OLine was so dominant it was just insane thinkin how Josh would look.

Yeah, but what about Hurts?  I was lead to believe this thread was about Hurts.  WTH does the Bengals tightend have to do with the Eagles oline?

KC not only has Mahomes they have a GM that is killing it with smart trades/value free agent signings and most importantly drafting.  All but 2 of the Chiefs draft picks from last year were starters this year.

They have another 12 picks in this coming draft, so unless Beane starts hitting on picks then the Chiefs will be tough to beat because they will always have a solid cap situation(14 mllion in cap before making any adjustments) to add top free agents with so many players/starters playing on rookie deals.   We waste a 3rd rounder on a small/average speed LB in Bernard who almost never saw the field while the Chiefs took 3 players after who all started including RB Pacheco

The fact is Beane has not been very good drafting,  many busts with early round picks and were falling behind because of it.

Totally agree.  Bernard was a good illustration, I might havebused Elam to highlight the absolute ridiculousness of the situation.

Character doesn’t matter that much. Chiefs and Bengals have dudes who did some bad things man. Bad things. Choir boys can be found in 6th round.

Choir boys apparently don't have the juice for the whole season either.

  14. 1 minute ago, The Frankish Reich said:

Agreed. After seeing what the Bengals middling pass rush did to us, I have to say the Eagles would have eaten our O line alive. And the weird thing is KC had the exact same dysfunctional O line a couple years ago and then completely fixed it in one off-season. Whereas we stand pat, or sub a Saffold for a Boettger.

Eagles might have beat the Bills by 30 tonight with the Bills oline.

KC likely wins that game without the holding call.

But refs, C'MON.  You have to be more careful w/ a few minutes to go in the game. You could have called that a dozen times, at least,  Keep it consistent, and above all, DO NOT make calls that decide games.

A surprise to anyone that the Chiefs got a drive extending call from the NFL in a big moment?  A complete joke at this point.
