Sports news Buffalo are also the people who reported that there is a contract of 14 million per year on the table for Ansah. You guys want Ansah at 14 million over Clark or Clowney at 20 and draft pick compensation. I'd much rather Clark or Clowney.

Beane: Hi, John.  This is Brandon Beane.  I wanted to talk to you about a potential trade for Frank Clark.  I'm willing to offer you the 9th pick and our second 4th round pick for him and your first pick.

John Schneider: Wow.  That's very generous, Brandon.  Hold on one second.  <dials Frank Clark>  Frank, Brandon Beane from the Buffalo Bills has called me to ask about your services.

Frank:  I don't want to go to Buffalo.

John: Brandon, I'm sorry.  But, Frank won't agree to a trade to Buffalo.  What's that?  <to Frank> Frank, Brandon says he's willing to BEAT Demarcus Lawrence's deal by offering you 5 years, $120 million with $70 million guaranteed.

Frank: Man, I told you, I DON'T want to go to Buffalo.  I want to WIN!  I don't want to sit at home in January for the next 5 years!

Like Gronkowski does for New England, that Tight End gave their already top passing offensive a new dimension that few teams could cover. Buffalo has never really had a player like that who could open up the middle of the field and make nightmare match ups for the linebackers to cover and also be a nightmare for the the smaller DBs attempting to tackle him.

A really good TE gives the QB another option in not only the pass game but also in the run game with his blocking. This kid "ragdolls" DEs and LBers.

Catches... everything... thrown... his... way! This in itself would give the Bills something they haven't had in forever.

Jim Nantz:  Welcome back to Orchard Park where the Bills trail the New York Jets 35-21 here in the 4th.  Bills tight end TJ Hockenson has already caught two touchdowns, but the Bills front four just CANNOT get any pressure on Jets quarterback Sam Darnold.

Tony Romo: Without a doubt, Jim.  I mean, Darnold has had it easy all day, just standing clean in the pocket.  Also, Le'Veon Bell is just having his way with the Bills' defensive line.  He already has 195 yards rushing and we still have another quarter to go.  Also, Jordan Phillips, the man they were hoping could replace Kyle Williams, has been manhandled in the ground game and hasn't gotten close to Darnold.

Jim: I know the fans in Buffalo were excited about the offensive potential of TJ Hockenson, but you have to look back and wonder if either Rashan Gary or Montez Sweat would have been a better pick.

I don’t think that’s fair.  Mario and the defense won a game against Aaron Rodgers, where our offense didn’t score a td.  He was amazing for a few years and worth every penny.  Our offense just sucked.

The Bills won that game for two reasons.  1.) Jordy Nelson dropped a guaranteed touchdown pass early on that would have given them a lead that would have lasted the rest of the game 2.) A late injury forced JC Tretter to step in and try to block Mario, a task at which he failed spectacularly.

NFN, in 2014 this team has had the #4 overall defense with the #1 pass rush in the league and they didn't even make the playoffs.

Oh yea, the player that cost the team two firsts and a fourth in Sammy Watkins played in all 16 games was targeted 128 times and caught 65 receptions for 982 yards, 6 TDs. Watkins had a 50.8 catch percentage.

TJ Hockensen caught 49 passes for 750 yards, 6 Tds last season for the Hawkeyes and dropped one pass!

Well, the QBs in that season were EJ Manuel and Kyle Orton.

This team will only be successful if Josh Allen is successful.  Hockenson does that more than a DT

Allen could put up 500 yards and 5 TDs a game, and it won't mean a thing if they're always playing from behind because they struggle at stopping the run or pressuring the QB.

Did you enjoy watching Leonard Fournette and Marlon Mack torch the defense last season?

    See above

Walter Football keeps a pretty updated list of prospects who have visited OBD.  There are 3 TEs on that list: Noah Fant, Isaac Nauta and Jace Sternberger.  For what you're describing, Sternberger in the 3rd would make the most sense.

However, as I said earlier, if they trade down into the teens (while hopefully getting an extra 2nd) and they think Hockenson, or Fant, is the BPA, then take one of them.

Nope...you are failing to give weight to positional value. I can find a blocking TE that can also catch 40 passes in rounds 3-7.  If I'm spending a top-10 pick, I want an elite player.

Maybe you don't, and that's fine, but there's nothing incorrect about drafting for value over need.

Gronkowski, Kelce, Ertz, Hunter Henry, Tyler Higbee.  What's one thing that they all have in common?  NONE OF THEM were taken in the 1st round, let alone the top 10.

You are evaluating him incorrectly then. This isn't fantasy football.  The stuff Hockenson does at the line in both pass blocking and run blocking will have monumental effects on the rest of the offence.  Add in the fact teams will have to factor him in the short and intermediate range allowing our speed guys more room.

Hockenson would be a home run selection

Meanwhile, Star and Jordan Phillips struggle at stopping the run and putting any pressure on the QB.

LMAO - someone give this guy a merit badge for most over dramatic post of the month.

Unless you know for a fact that Hockenson is going to have a Tony Gonzalez/Gronkowski-esque, Hall of Fame career, NO tight end is worth the 9th pick. Full stop.

But, if they trade down into the teens, then, sure, take Hockenson or Noah Fant if they're the BPA.  Otherwise, if Jeremiah's mock holds true, I'd rather take Rashan Gary or Montez Sweat at 9 than a freaking tight end.

He'd tick so many boxes and I'd be elated. 10 year quality pro who instantly is the best TE we've had since the early 90's. Great locker room guy who has a chance to be an All Pro guy and with our vertical offense he's going to eat in the middle of the field/intermediate. Sign me up.

You'd be elated to watch a defensive line that won't be able to get to the quarterback or stop the run?  Is your plan for them to use a 2nd on Khalen Saunders from the vaunted Western Illinois defense and hope that he turns into the next Aaron Donald or Fletcher Cox?

If that really is your plan, I hope watching Hockenson catch 300 passes for 40 touchdowns brings you joy, as the defense gets gashed in the running game week in and week out.

If the Giants go Qb at 6, he can fall to 7. But if he has dropped to 6, the Bills should explore a trade with the Giants, who might want t o trade down and collect draft capital.

So, to move from 9 to 6, you'd be willing to give up a 2nd and maybe one of the two 4ths for Quinnen Williams?  Fair enough.  Now, how do you go about addressing the wide receiver position?

I can already hear Howard and Jeremy tomorrow morning: "Look, we don't know if Josh Allen will ever be a franchise quarterback.  One thing we DO know, is that Russell Wilson is a franchise quarterback.  I sincerely hope that Brandon Beane has at least reached out to the Seahawks about what it would take to get Wilson.  Besides, Buffalo isn't that far from New York City.  He can live in East Aurora or Orchard Park, while his wife gets them a place in New York.  Problem solved."

Would you trade #9 and Josh for Wilson?  I think I would not but Buffalo might be instant contender.

It was only a matter of time, I guess.

That's the way it should go, but then the QB needy team frenzy kicks in and pick offers are flying everywhere to move up and grab qbs... That is good for us as we already have one(Woot JA!), so the Big name D players would fall right in our lap.. yes please!

What QB needy frenzy?  If Kyler Murray goes 1st overall, the only QB left who would be worth trading up for is Dwayne Haskins which, if I had to guess, would happen in the 6 to 8th pick range.

That would still mean that Williams, Allen and Bosa would be long gone.  On the other hand, that could mean that Ed Oliver or Rashan Gary could still be available.

    16 minutes ago, BuffaloRebound said:

Would you give up pick 9 and pick 40 for him?  Tampa would probably trade down from 5 if Williams falls to them.  Tampa could probably still get Devin White at 9 and their GM likes to trade down.

Devin White will go to the Lions.  They had one of the worst linebacker units in the NFL last year.

I do think he would make sense as a 7th because you can just sit him for a couple of years as your backup and there aren't going to be many voices crying 'start him' as soon as Allen has a bad thow. And if he doesn't show anything then you can let him walk without much lost

Oh, trust me.  There would be a LOT of people calling for Tyree if Allen had a bad game.  Howard Simon went so far as to say in an article that "we should start talking seriously about Tyree Jackson" if Allen doesn't show improvement through the remainder of the season.

That means we can trade up for Bosa or Allen, which is fine with me

Um, if Bosa goes to the 49ers, Williams goes to the Jets and Allen goes to the Raiders.  If Williams goes to the 49ers, Bosa goes to the Jets and Allen STILL goes to the Raiders.

So........what exactly do you want to give up to get Bosa or Allen?
