If you know this cartoon, and even if you don’t

    You’ll appreciate this. It’s hypnotic.

The lad (Peter Auty) who sang Walking in the Air (which is actually flying but that's another discussion) in the short cartoon film wasn't the same lad who sang when the song was released as a single after the movie was released. Aled Jones got to number 5 in 1985 with the song. So the first time the song was covered and released as a single it was a hit.

The Snowman was first shown on TV when I was 2 and I still watch it at least once every Christmas.

  2. My son and I were at a small gig (Stone Roses tribute) on Saturday night and during the interval the venue played some music and this song came on. The place erupted singing and dancing to it in a way I sometimes think only working class British folk can. I looked at my 14 year old who was stood up belting the words out like they meant the world to him. Seeing him enjoying life and feeling so comfortable in himself doing so was an amazing moment.

  3. Absolutely no surprise it's pronounced GAY-LA your side of the pond. No surprise at all.

Although, Queen's Radio Ga Ga now makes more sense.

It's also an opportunity for in-laws who may not be very familiar with each other to spend some time then share a meal together.

Unless the groom's friends spoil it by booking some prostitutes through a gay pimp they met in Chicago while looking for the a wedding dress maker.

This song is written into sporting pop culture here in the UK as it was played as the soccer league tables were given out after the completion of the soccer fixtures each Saturday afternoon. Long before rolling sports tv stations and the games being split over the weekend and Monday.

And then The Lightning Seeds went on to produce the music for the fabled soccer song which annoys the lesser counties of the United Kingdom .....

  6. Plenty of cats over the years. Currently have Woody after the cowboy in Toy Story (my son's idea at the time) but I like to think it's named after Eric Wood. Also, Lily which I've no idea why. We got her in 2007 and she's a good old girl. Still climbing fences and being mischievous.

Over the years we've had Morph (after a plasticine TV character), Mia (after Mrs Mia Wallace) and my favourite, Walwyn. He was named after one of my soccer club's legendary players. A big daft beautiful boy.
