He's not getting in. Poor guy keeps getting his hopes up, and crushed.

The Bills always make Chris want to SHOUT.
Small market team gets small market media talent.

It took Andy Reid 11-12 seasons making the playoffs to win a SB.
No, it took Patrick Mahomes. The greatest QB of this generation – which McNabb wasn't. This whole...don't give up on Sean, just look at Andy line of thinking, is stupid. It's Patrick Mahomes, the guy Sean gave to Andy. If that doesn't happen, Andy is still just old Andy.

Best way for Josh to gain leverage would be to win the Super Bowl.

I bought a Peterman jersey right before the 5-INT game. But at least I wasn't a Rob Johnson supporter. Now THAT would be really embarrassing.

Digg's is sending a message about Sean McDermott. Sean isn't handling well.

We are cursed anyway. What does the curse do, specifically? If it reverses fortunes of successful, lucky teams, might it invert our bad luck to good?
Exactly my thought. When you’re a team that’s already cursed (Wide Right, Music City Miracle, 17-year-drought, 13 seconds, Damar Hamlin) this acts to reverse the curse. Go Bills.

All I know is we got destroyed in that Bengals game and it just looked like we were playing so passive
That had to be a very uncomfortable film review for the coaches, the biggest game of the year and playing defensive back 7 yards off the line of scrimmage
It wasn't pretty, that's for sure. O played worse than D.

Except that after the KC game last year, and both the Miami and Cinci playoff games this year, it would have been easily justifiable to outright fire him and still “manage the optics” regardless of his race and regular season numbers. They’re a SB contending team whose defense, which leads many metrics in-season, sucks ass in the clutch.
The way they approached it may be completely transparent, and it isn’t likely to change a thing in the end, but they approached it this way to try and let Frazier save face IMO.
It's been a discussed million times on this board that the special teams coordinator and LBs coach were quietly jettisoned after KC13. Yet, Leslie seems to continuously get all the blame. Additionally, it's Sean's defense and he was standing right there for 13 seconds and could have at any moment changed the D. So why didn't he? Bills were never going to beat Cinci with the O scoring 10 points. Easily justifiable? Meh. It should also be no surprise to anyone that Sean is loading up on D players because he will justifiably be on the hot seat if we don't win the Super Bowl this season.

Looking more and more like the Bills and Frazier tried to find a way of moving on while crafting a narrative that would be the least damaging to his future coaching prospects.
Nah, the Bills just didn't want the backlash for firing a very successful black coach. They did him no favors.

The most polite firing of all time. You spelled Political wrong. Can't fire a black DC with a top 10 D in 2023. He was pushed out and it was spun as Leslie "taking a year off" to make it sound like his decision.

If this is all true, this is a bizarre way to attract a HC opportunity. Would have been way better off staying as the Bills DC and get over the hump. That's how you create demand for yourself.
Bizarre for sure, that's why the Bills official story doesn't add up. The best explanation I've heard is that he got fired/pushed out when Sean told him he was taking over the play calling. "Taking a year off" was the legal compromise since the Bills couldn't exactly fire a Black DC with a consistent top 5 D. They'd get roasted. I don't make the rules, that's life in 2023.
13 seconds has also been discussed to death. The Special Teams coordinator was quietly let go and LBs coach quietly "retired." Sean clearly identified who was to blame with these moves. Anyone who wants to blame Leslie should blame Sean too because it's his scheme and he was standing right there. Could have changed anything he wanted.

Seemed like a good man/leader, but I'm glad to see a change (regardless of how it went down).
Hoping we see a more aggressive style/playcalling, not expecting anything schematically to change much. As many said, this has been McDermotts' scheme and philosophy. The devil is in the details with execution, and playcalling though. Improved playcalling has been what is lacking....
Best predictor of future success is past results, and Frazier has been dreadful in the playoffs (past few years summary):
1. Excellent: Pats 2021
2. Average: Ravens 2020, Miami 2022
3. Poor: KC 2020, Colts 2020, Houston 2019
4. Horrible: KC 2021 (13 seconds should have been the final straw), Bengals 2022
That Houston game should have been a W, in 2019...and that 2020 Colts game could have easily been another L.
McDermott has a good scheme, it just needs to take it up a level in aggression and creativity, at key moments of games.
Sean clearly felt 13 seconds was the final straw for the Special Teams Coordinator (who failed to squibb) and LBs Coach (out of position) because they secretly left/retired and we didn't know about it until 3 months later. But apparently, that's not enough evidence for most that Sean didn't think Leslie was at fault.
Otherwise, if you still feel strongly that 13 seconds should have been the final straw for Leslie, you must include Sean. It's Sean's system, he heard the call, was standing right there, saw the scheme, and chose not to change it, which he had every right and chance to do. Same with the Bengals cover zero scheme everyone brings up when the biggest issue with the team that day was clearly the O. If you told Bills fans ahead of the game that the the Bills D kept the Bengals O to 27, we'd all assume we won that game. Instead, 10 points.

No one in this thread really wants to say it: McD didn't have the stones to fire his 6 year tenured DC because it would reflect poorly on him. As much as Frazier underperformed in the playoffs, McD had a big say in the personnel he had to work with. If the defensive talent was solid, we'll see this season if that's the case.
I respect this take a lot and agree with the personnel note. But also think it has more to do with the times and public perception. You simply can't fire a black DC with a perpetually top 10 defense in 2023. I don't make the rules. Like it or not. The Bills would have been crucified for it. So they took the strategic approach and forced him out with the "taking a year off" approach. I believe there were 5 open DC jobs this year. He would have easily landed one of them.

It is as clear as a bell that McD informed Frazier that he (McD) would call the defenses in 2023 season. Given this, Frazier had to leave the Bills. At this point in his career, Frazier cannot accept being a DC stripped of play calling responsibilities. Among other problems, it would kill any chance of gettting a HC job
Yep, this is exactly what happened. It's 2023 and you cannot fire a black DC with a consistent top 10 defense. So the Bills forced him out with a stealth move instead.
Whether Sean intentionally waited until there were no available DC jobs left or it just took the legal department and PR machine too long to get their ducks in a row is unclear. But it was horribly handled and Leslie deserved better.

The big story everyone is missing is that Sean waited until there were no DC jobs left to fire him. That's really messed up.

Dan Marino got rid of the ball lighting fast and lasted 17 years. Brady's quick release would have helped him the same way as long as the offense was set up for that style of play.

If only Beane actually had the the final say on draft day. Sean will get his DL / LB / DE first.

Yeah, the ST coach was fired for his mistake.
Once that had happened, we still had 13 seconds to stop them from getting into FG range. It’s not THAT difficult of a task…. Kelce knew exactly what was coming and he made us pay. That’s on the DC
You don’t say “well Farwell screwed up first, so if he didn’t screw up in the first place, Frazier never would’ve have had chance to screw up”. That’s just the most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard. They both screwed. Then Frazier found a way to do it again just 6 games later.
I didn’t think he’d be fired but I thought it was in our best interests to move on.
You left out the part that the LB coach quietly retired. Maybe that had something to do with the middle of the field being wide open? Just a guess. Given that Leslie is running Sean's D, and Sean is standing right there watching the whole thing and could have easily changed the call, my guess is that Leslie wasn't fired because Sean knew he wasn't as much to blame as the fans think.
2 hours ago, NewEra said:Then Frazier found a way to do it again just 6 games later.
Hmmm...you'd think a defensive head coach wouldn't allow that to happen? Insist on a different approach? Or maybe that's just his scheme...

I still don't understand how someone thinks they should have fired Frazier after 13 seconds when the Special Teams coordinator failed to get the right call in to squibb kick the ball? He was quietly let go and the LB coach quietly retired. This isn't speculation, these are facts. Funny how people overlook the obvious when they have their minds made up. This place is going to go bonkers if Sean's D ranks below Leslie at the end of the season.

Bills red helmet throwbacks incoming? 2023 NFL throwback uniform news

I worked with the designer who designed this uniform, and when he asked for my honest feedback, I told him I did not like them at all. I also sent him a screen shot of TBD discussion which I don't think he appreciated because everyone was trashing it.
