About time we have an executive who knows how to play the comp game
-
He will be a Brown and they will take Sam Darnold as well.
-
I can see the Carolina boys liking Royce Freeman because he reminds me of Jonathan Stewart but the guy I really want is Jaylen Samuels from NCST. He's a RB/FB/HB/WR/TE all rolled into one. Has a knack for the endzone and makes ridiculous catches from the slot and out the backfield.
I can totally see the Patriots targeting him in the 2nd and 3rd and turning him into a stud.
Other guys I like are Mark Walton and Rashaad Penny.

Mel Kiper has him ranked #1 overall after his performance at the senior bowl.
His son works for the Jets and they're super high on him. This is Mel getting ahead of the story when they take him at #6.

Bad character guy. I don't like paying DL who have bad character issues even while on a rookie contract. He's a stay away from me. I hope we go after Andrew Norwell from Carolina. Box off that RG position for the next few years.

In reference to your other point about Rudolph being a “one read guy”, you’re somewhat right but entirely wrong about his Senior year. Don’t take my word for it, go listen to Traspasso on WGR this morning and he’ll say it himself. In Rudy’s Sophmore and Junior years, that is an accurate statement - but in his Senior year, game after game he is making across the field reads and holding the ball and staying in the pocket, throughout every game - and guess what? His numbers improved to almost 5,000 yards, 37 TDs and a rating around 170 while completing 65% of his passes. And....he’s getting better.
Me and Traspasso have been arguing about Mason Rudolph all yer on Twitter. He really likes him. I'm not so hot on him. He's going to be an above average starter if surrounded with good talent but I want more.
8 hours ago, Nihilarian said:You call a QB that has had eight 4th quarter comebacks to win games since 2015 (Tyrod Taylor has had three from (2011-2017) Plus he has had twelve game-winning drives (Tyrod has had 5 since 2011) average? Allow me to enlighten...
"Since becoming Washington’s starting quarterback in 2015, Cousins has completed 1,034 of 1,525 attempts (67.8 percent) for 12,121 yards, 73 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions. His passer rating of 99.7 over that span ranks fifth among 22 quarterbacks with at least 1,000 pass attempts. Only two future Hall of Famers, Tom Brady and Drew Brees, and the 2016 MVP, Matt Ryan, have a higher total passer rating since 2015."
To those who say Cousins wouldn't be a good fit behind the Bills offensive line...
"The offensive line, held together with duct tape and glue, ranks 29th this season for pass-blocking ability, per Pro Football Focus, and has seen Cousins pressured on 36.6 percent of his drop-backs in 2017, the highest rate during his three-year run. Yet his passer rating under pressure this season is 81.6, a career high and the sixth-highest in 2017."
"The high-level performance for Cousins isn’t the result of conservative passes, either. His 42.5 percent completion rate on deep throws, those traveling 20 or more yards in the air, ranks fifth among 27 quarterbacks attempting at least 100 deep throws over the past three years. His passer rating (109.0) on these attempts is second only to Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions."
Don't compare a college player who hasn't yet proven a thing in the NFL to a QB who might look average because he has been on a bad team with a crappy run game (24th in rushing attempts, 27th in rushing yards), a crappy defense (27th in points allowed, 24th in yards allowed) Cousins has been carrying that team, coaching staff.
He is an above average QB. I don't want to make him the highest paid player in the NFL and cripple our flexibility.9 hours ago, LittleJoeCartwright said:Were his passes less catchable than the others? Elway threw hard no matter the distance which made catching his balls difficult. I worked with a guy who played as a WR with him at Stanford. This guy said by the end of the season his fingers were so messed up he was catching the ball with his palms and his body.
You would think UCLA would put some talent around him. He really didn't have much. Caleb Wilson might turn out to be decent but other than Lamar Jackson no other top QB in this Draft was hurt more than his teammates.
You see that with some of his interceptions too trying to force things while trailing all game. -
My absolute favorite player in the Draft and I hope we take him with one of our 2nd's if we don't package them up for a move. He's going to go to New England and turn into a superstar.
-
He got better every year throwing the ball and if we're staying at 21 he's the guy we should target and not Mason Rudolph.

You can't really hold it against him that he had very good talent around him. I will go on record as to say Rudolph has just as much chance of being a franchise QB than Darnold/Mayfield/Rosen. The good thing about MR is we won't have to mortgage the farm to get him either. He should be there when we are picking. I don't know, maybe I am wrong. I was very high on Matt Barkley a few years ago & he never panned out.
I wouldn't touch Rosen with a 10ft pole. His injuries & attitude scare the hell out of me. If we trade up I really hope it is for Mayfield or Darnold.
I don't begrudge him for having talent around him but more than any other QB in this class he was helped out by those around him. Put Rosen in that system and there's no doubt he's QB1.
My personal rankings are as follows
1. Baker Mayfield
2. Josh Rosen
3. Lamar Jackson
4. Sam Darnold
5. Kyle Lauletta
I actually think all 5 turn out to be good QB's at the next level...
-
I see why people like Rudolph because he has three years experience, great size and production but has anyone watched him play. He's a one read QB and was surrounded by two Top 50 picks and a future 1st Round RB, in an inflated system in a conference that doesn't care about defense.
-
Josh Rosen's ceiling is Matt Ryan and his floor is Eli Manning/Jameis Winston. He will be a perennial Top 10 QB in this league.

Biggest question I have on Rosen's character is whether or not he loves football
I tend to ignore everything anonymous scouts say to be honest. They're the most curmudgeon people on Earth.

Agreed! And, I've mentioned this in another thread but his left tackle for two years (LT and QB relationship can be a close one) Conor McDermott is on our roster and loves Rosen from everything I've read. How Conor feels about Rosen as a friend and teammate should be, at least, a part of the evaluation of Rosen.
While there are other UCLA players on rosters in the NFL, having a guy like Conor McDermott on our roster gives us some very special insight into how teammates feel about Rosen and what type of leader and person he is. Dude was in the offensive huddle with him for two years. This fact should not be overlooked.
All of his teammates love him. Check Twitter. He's super smart and thoughtful which rubs people the wrong way.

While this is all true, it was a rubber matt that ended Kevin Kolb's NFL career.
NFL players are bigger, stronger and more importantly much, much faster. It's not just the concussions that have me worried about Allen as much as his recurring shoulder injuries and his struggles with free rushers. Makes risky decisions under pressure, throws off his back foot when hurried. Makes dangerous throwaways while being sacked instead of holding the ball. When he takes hits he is prone to get knocked out of a game.
Other than all that a really good college football QB.
My personal opinion is that the Bills have far too many holes on the roster to give up so much for a QB with serious questions. I prefer the Bills back up the Brinks truck for Cousins and spend all those draft picks on filling those holes.
You'd rather make an average QB the highest paid player in league history than draft a rookie QB who will be cheap and is already better than Cousins. This is not how you build a team.

Thank you. How could anybody say this kid has not been productive. Watch the film, the kid has plenty of arm strength. If he is there at #21 I honestly hope the Bills run to the podium with his name on the card.
I don't know how that guy said he doesn't have great numbers. He has incredible numbers for a couple years now. He does play in an inflated system and he was surrounded with two NFL WR's and a future 1st RD RB.
Rudolph is a marginal talent. He's got great size, three years of starting experience and does some good things but he's a one read guy. He'll never be an elite QB. Do we really want to spend a high pick on that?

Do we though? Or do we need a guy that fits into our cohesive locker room?
Odd that you would say we need brash and arrogant then compare him to Matt Ryan who is extremely humble. As is Aaron Rodgers. Drew Brees. Russell Wilson. Eli (and Peyton for that matter) both humble. Matter of fact aside from Brady, I can't honestly think of that "brash arrogant" QB in today's game.
He is the best passer in the draft, I don't dispute that. And if he devoted himself to the game he could be phenomenal. He could also retire early to protect himself for life after football. To me it seems he would care about the "Rosen Brand" rather than the team. Can DEFINITELY see him making "business decisions" on the field.
I have no problem giving up what it would take to get up to 2 or 3 and draft Darnold if the Browns pass. I have no issue moving up to take Mayfield. Rosen/Allen to me are too big of risks to invest that much in.
Those dudes all have football arrogance. Especially Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning and I don't see where you're getting 'Rosen Brand' stuff from. It seems more narrative than anything else. I trust Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane to make the right decision here.- 1

My thoughts as well. Looking at giving up a major amount of real estate to move up that far. But if they do, then so be it.
Depends on if they really want to stick with Eli Manning and if they like Davis Webb enough. Otherwise is there really a huge difference between Barkley and let's say Ronald Jones? They also fill a need with Cordy Glenn, can take another OL at 22 and a few other picks and suddenly they have a very balanced team on both sides of the ball. Last year was an aberration with them.
The Gettleman-Beane connection is real and Gettleman got his start in Buffalo.
Best case scenario is
Browns-Sam Darnold
Giants-Saquon Barkley
Colts-Bradley Chubb
Browns-Connor Williams
Broncos move out of 5 as they've signed Kirk Cousins and we get Rosen for considerably less cheaper. Colts and Browns are also potential trade partners at #3 and #4.
-
Galko reporting that McDermott isn't worried about Rosen's 'character concerns' put a smile on my face. I hope it's true because this kid has it all. Hearing Trent Dilfer talk about him after they butted heads during Elite 11 Camp was great.
He's a Type A personality who wants to be the best and it's going to rub people the wrong way but we need brash and arrogant. All the great QB's have it. This also works for Baker Mayfield. They're the two best QB's in the Draft for a reason.
Josh Rosen has a great chance to be a better version of Matt Ryan. Who wouldn't be happy with that?

I've heard Buffalo likes Kyle Lauletta-QB Richmond as well. I've been tweeting about him for months so I was super excited to see him do well during Senior Bowl week. I think he's a 2nd Rounder.

Even when we've hit on 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks they haven't stuck around. Let's solve our QB situation and get out of NFL purgatory. Jim Kelly's last NFL season was in 1996. It's time to get aggressive.- 2

That's suicide. And honestly, I would hate to give up a 1st round pick next year too. I hated it in the Watkins trade and I'd hate it now. I hate not having a 1st round pick. It just sucks. If we trade all of that prepare to take a few steps back before going forward again. Such a trade presupposes that we are only one player away and we are not. I can see giving up 21 and 22 but not 2019 1st and another future 3rd. If we give up all of that + Glenn then we've been had big time.
I hate giving up future 1st's too just makes next year's Draft less exciting but it's the cost for a top QB and too be honest we haven't hit on many 1sts, 2nd and 3rd's recently.
Nothing papers over the cracks of your roster like a really good QB and Rosen is a prodigy. Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers are all on their last legs. Getting in young star at QB with a chance to be elite is imperative.
-
Eric Galko was the first to report of the Trubisky interest last year as well. This guy is plugged in.
It's probably going to take 21st, 22nd, 53rd, 2019 1st Rd pick, 2020 3rd Rd Pick and Cordy Glenn and I would absolutely do that deal for Josh Rosen. He's immediately the 2nd best QB in franchise history and we've boxed off the most important position in sports for a decade.
