  1. Tough queation. It MIGHT be because he has short arms, bad hands, and goes down if someone breathes heavily.

Other than that I'm not so sure.

I take this to mean that you were not happy when Spiller was drafted. At the time I was telling my friends that I would be disappointed if the Bills drafted anyone that weighed less than 300 pounds, either for offense or defense. I was not at all pleased when Spiller was picked.

  2. Funny, Sanchez didn't seem to have any trouble completing passes against us??

I am not sure why people on this board are dissing Sanchez. He pretty much picked the Bills apart at home during the second half of the game. During the first half he had been intercepted and sacked, and he started to look a little flustered. Since the Bills couldn't get any pressure on him during the second half, he was able to regain his composure and play well. The Broncos were able to keep the pressure up for the whole game. A recurring theme with Eli, Romo, Sanchez and Dalton is that they get flustered and become unreliable if they start feeling the pressure from the pass rush. Unfortunately, the Bills weren't able to take advantage of any of those opportunities.

  3. Why would you think that? He doesn't have many fumbles, or a reputation for fumbling

Last season he lost at least one fumble, I think maybe even a couple of fumbles. Considering how few touches he had last season, that could be a serious concern. Maybe he fumbles in practice. However, I feel that they should use him more than they do. The idea that Fred should be an every down back is worrisome to me. Fred fumbled in each of the last two games. I don't think that is a sign of trouble to come, but it may be a symptom of too much reliance on one guy. Fred should be the main guy for now, but not the only guy.

  4. We SHOULD win this week. I just want to go to bed Sunday night not in the worst mood.

Agreed. If the Bills lose, I stay away from any other games, Sportcenter, Sunday night football, Monday night football, SI.com, etc. etc. etc. I hate to be reminded of the loss over and over again. If the Bills win, then I check out all the opportunities to hear some praise and see some highlights. It has a huge impact on my outlook for the next couple of days.

  5. Bills are also one of the few teams I notice who actively help the opponent get up. When Freddy is knocked on his ass, it's comparatively rare to see the opposition lend a helping hand. Winning teams just don't do stupid stuff like that and that mentality needs to be shaken out. Love Nelson, hated that move.

Today's opponents are tomorrow's team mates.

Did anyone else notice that right before that touchdown, Nelson was getting his ankle retaped, and he looked like he was in pain? Anyone who thinks he should just "man up" and go play should realize that that is exactly what he did.

  6. Funny how none of you geniuses were talking like this early in the year when they were chucking it down field on 3rd and short. Same situation. You hit the pass you're a genius. Miss it and all you wannabees come out and bash them. Maybe you could all do better?

Giants game. Third and short. Long throw. Interception. Twice. I think the idea of doing that again was the thing that makes this so hard to understand. At least, it was for me.

  7. We are all students of the game. I have been an avid football fan for decades. We all have seen the game evolve. We all have ideas that may help this team get out of the hole that they have found themselves in. We are a fan forum, we have no power. We can discuss things like short passes to tight ends, power running, two back sets, defensive schemes that don't leave the middle of the field open for short passes, etc. We can all discuss whether Gailey knows what he is doing or not, or ask why Spiller is not being used, or discuss whether Stevie is "elite" or lament the inability to pressure the QB, or wail and gnash our teeth as yet another player goes on IR, but what's the point? All we can do is watch and hope. If that is not satisfying, then what else is there to do? I will always watch and hope, but at this point I feel that even though there is a general consensus among the posters on this forum about how to fix the team, there is nothing that we can do about it. I'm no psychologist, but I guess it's supposed to be healthy to discuss these things with like minded people.

  8. YES! This "great" group of WRs is NOT. I try to be optimistic, but let's be reasonable: Stevie Johnson

is an average #1WR, David Nelson is an OK to above average #3WR and the rest of them, including

Donald Jones, are nothing but 4,5 and 6 WRs on most competent NFL offenses. Compare them to the

Jets' WRs, is Stevie as good as either Plaxico or Holmes?

TE, while VERY much improved over recent bad TEs, is not exactly a strength. Again, compare

Scott Chandler to the Jets' Dustin Keller or the Pats' Gronkowski and/or Hernandez.

Throw in that the Bills' OL is now in a shambles, down to their 3rd LT, lost their best OL (Wood)

and have had to mix and match the rest of the OL to let Levitre play LT. Unless Bell or Hairston

come back this week, the Bills will have their 4th string LT playing, and 2nd stringers at most

    other positions.

Now, granted the offense has been largely ignored in the last 2 drafts because the D was in such

bad shape. I lament the Spiller pick, but find it hard to blame them. I still don't understand why

he hasn't had much chance, but must be SOME reason that the guys that drafted him high, don't

    play him.

    Excellent post, sir

  9. It was clearly Fitzy's fault that Jones tied to catch the ball with his hands upside down and it bounced off for an INT, and it was Fitzy's fault that Jones fell down on a timing route so that the defender was the only one in the area. Not trying to be a Jones hater, but it is a weird coincidence that two of the INTs were passes to Jones. I have no idea what the play was for the third one.

  10. You have touched on a major point here. The Bills coaching staff, for whatever reason, has failed to get the ball into the hands of two of the best athletes on the team. The failure to utilize Spiller and Brad Smith is downright criminal. These are the type of decisions which reinforce the view that this coaching staff is mediocre at best.

In addition, Fred Jackson has been phenomenal all season and even he doesn't get enough carries. Who is responsible? Chan Gailey.

Gailey will never be more than a mediocre coach.

I am shocked that somebody on this forum had the nerve to write this. Usually any hint at questioning Gailey as anything other than a genius is met with ridicule and derision. I feel that after the two poor play calls that resulted in interceptions in the Giants game, the handoff on fourth and a foot against the Jets, and the propensity for long throws into tight spaces on third down are all examples of a coach that is grasping at straws rather than choosing plays that would have a high probability of success. Maybe he over thinks these things.

I also think that the waterbug back is no longer in style in today's NFL. Big backs with power and spread offenses seem to be the way to go. The defense is too quick for a waterbug to elude them.

  11.

Like others have said about Donald Jones, how times are you going to throw the ball to him on 3rd & short and he misses 98% of the time? That's ridiculous!! The play doesn't work, but yet they still try forcing it multiple times a game?!

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Any time somebody on this forum writes that Chan is a genius and nobody should question him, I think of this definition of insanity.

On the other hand, maybe this definition could be applied to anybody who is a Bills fan.

  12. The sky may be falling on the season, but it's not all crashing down around us on this version of the organization. There's a clear way forward here:

1.) Fix the goddamn defense. Fire George Edwards, effective tomorrow, and find a coordinator who can run a pro unit. Maybe that guy's Wanny, but I'm not convinced. I don't think we've put together such top-shelf 3-4 talent that scheme has to factor into this decision. Steve Spagnolo's likely to be fired. Jack Del Rio might be available. There's more coaching talent in the position coach ranks. Do a real search, and find the best guy - a coach who will also be able to identify talent. With Dareus and Williams, we've got some power up front. Now flesh it out with position depth and starters at LB. You can get a lot done with roleplayers on defense; go out and find those guys.

2.) Accept that this is going to be Fitz's team, and build for that. The guy has a quick release and decent accuracy, so find guys who get make quick cuts, get open, hold on to the ball, and move forward. We've got a scrapheap playing wide receiver. Anyone who can be a credible threat downfield would revitalize these guys. Donald Jones is not a starter, Steve Johnson isn't a #1.

If you can make those changes, we'll be back to September again.

    good post

  13. I don't understand the emotions that people have about Spiller. He rarely gets on the field, and he is never given a chance to stay in the game long enough to get into any sort of rhythm. I was not a fan of the pick, and I still am not, but I hesitate to call him a bust since he hardly ever plays. Is there something that Chan knows that explains why he doesn't let Spiller play? Fumbles? Bad blocking? Doesn't learn the plays? To easy to tackle? If the Bills trade him, I bet he will turn out to be a good player for whoever gets him. He is expensive and fast. Fred is far superior between the tackles, but why not give Spiller a few sets of downs to see what he can do and give Fred a rest? At this point, maybe it's time for a few experiments to see what some of these other players can do.

  14. Sadly, who takes his place? Wanny? Wanny I'm sure has had his input, and maybe even some play calling as well and the results speak for themselves. Yet, a statement needs to be made to the defense that what they have done is unacceptable.

I wrote this about three or four weeks ago and somebody decided to be a wiseguy and make a snide remark in reply. I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who feels this way.

  15. I'll eat crow. Fitz went deep to spiller and he dropped it. Jones dropped TD. Jones dropped pass that was picked.

I know Jones is hurt (ankle I think), but he had a horrible game. Fell down on that last interception as well. I am curious to read what the people who are good at analyzing things have to say about this game. To me, the play was mostly terrible on defense, but I can't really say anything more intelligent than that right now. Why do other teams constantly make completions to tight ends and possession receivers right between the linebackers and safeties, in the middle of the field?

  16. I will be hootin and hollarin for Fred Jackson to take over the game, but alas the Bills smoke & mirrors is done in by injury and lack of depth and lack of D (just can't get off the field) causes another blow out 31 - 7 Dallas. And another national TV debacle. The nation again says "same old Bills"....

34 - 17 Dallas. I am fearing this scenario exactly. :bag:

  17. I have no doubt that Fitz is banged up. So on fourth and inches when they should have run a QB sneak, why not put in Brad Smith? Aren't we paying him for this kind of thing anyway? I like Mega Mind and he's done a good job outcoaching a few of the best, but I expected to see more creativity in both the play calling and the utilization of players (e.g. CJ, Brad Smith, etc.).

    :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

  18. I wouldn't be surprised if Fitz isn't more banged up from the Redskins game than us fans are led to believe. This might account for the off day against the Jets.

I agree. Why no QB sneak on 4th and a foot? Why no zip on his passes, and no passes across the field? Why so few scrambles, even though he had some opportunities? Maybe his chest is still sore. He got hit a few times by the Jets, but nothing like when London Fletcher hit him. I hope an extra week to recover makes a difference.

  19. We could also go 0-8.

With how badly we played against the Jets, at home, in one of the biggest games in recent memory... I'm not counting any game as a victory until the game is over and we have more points than our opponents. As far as I'm concerned, once you throw a stinker like that up, the season starts from scratch. We'll see if this team can rebound, or if it was simply the beginning of a downward spiral.

I feel as though the Dallas game is the turning point. Either the downward spiral begins if they lose, or the Bills are relevant for at least the next few games if they win. Dallas is pretty much "average" in this parity league, so beating an average team on the road is a big test. I believe it will be a close game, and a few lucky bounces or ref calls could make all the difference. In other words, it will be like most of the games the Bills have been playing for the last year or so.
