Moulds could beat a jam, and could separate.  Not to mention, he returned kicks and looked athletic doing so.

Not in his first couple years and I am not comparing him to Moulds.  I personally didn’t like the pick of Coleman

A young player, both in actual age and playing experience, has to learn and improve.  The coach points that out.

in other breaking news water is wet.

See Eric Moulds.  I believe he didn’t do much in his first couple years.  I’m not saying he is Moulds but sometimes receivers take a little time to develop at the pro level.  I hope he develops but there are no guarantees.

Seems like it’s been a long time since the Bills had a difference-maker at DT. Not for a lack of trying, though—the Bills have drafted guys (not many) and brought a bunch in as free agents over the years, but almost entirely without substantial success.

Oliver had a really good year in 2023, but that’s about it. DaQuon was looking pretty good that year too until the injury. Other than those two performances, the best we’ve had is really just average, with most performances ranking below average.

We’ve brought guys in with varied backgrounds and skill sets, only to watch most of them disappoint or perform below expectations. Going back to 2020 that list includes guys like:

    Brandin Bryant

    Star Lotulelei

    Vernon Butler

    Poona Ford

    Tim Settle

    Austin Johnson

    Jordan Phillips

    Dewayne Carter

    Linval Joseph

Granted, almost none of these guys were known to be, or were expected to develop into, difference-makers. I mean, for the most part we’ve gotten what we paid for—average, at best, though you could argue it’s even less than that. Then you look at what Poona and Settle did after leaving the Bills and having impact years, it starts to make you wonder…

Is it the Bills defensive system more than the players? Is this a system that just doesn’t bring out the best in this position? If we drafted or brought in a true blue chipper at DT, would he just also underperform or disappoint?

Or is it really just that we have underinvested in the position and it’s purely the lack of high-end talent that is the limitation?

Poona Ford had a pretty good year with San Diego this year.

For sure but what does Khalil Mack have to do with this?

My point was dolac was first team All-American and did not get invited to the combine

Mack was a top five pick

My point is that he is that he should be more deserving for his accomplishments.  It has nothing to do with Mack.

The latest talented Buffalo bulls linebacker will have to wow at the pro Day to catch some more eyes

I have a sixth round grade on him and expect him to go undrafted at this point but priority UDFA and he will get his chance to stick in the league

At this point I will not be surprised if he ends up signing with Buffalo as an undrafted free agent and reunites with Buffalo Joe

A local kid to first team All-American to Buffalo Bills linebacker sounds like a movie

Khalil Mack made second teal All-American.  This kid is a tackling machine.

That was the most shocking part of last nights game. The Eagles essentially came out and said “everything the Bills did last week, we are going to do the opposite”.

Many fans are talking about the dominant Eagles d-line. They’re right. Talent plays a big part. BUT, part of the reason they looked SO dominant last night is because of the scheme the Eagles were running.

Instead of playing soft man, like we did last week, the Eagles pressed on nearly every play. This made the Chiefs old/slow (Kelce/Hopkins) and small (Hollywood/Worthy) have to fight for every yard from the second the ball was snapped.

This took away the quick passing game that Mahomes excelled with against the Bills. He HAD to hold the ball, because his receivers needed time to get open because they were being pressed at the line.

It was that combination of the Eagles talent on D-Line, AND the coaching scheme making Mahomes hold the ball.

It was the completely opposite of what we ran. And it rattled Mahomes something fierce.

On the offensive side, they hit the flats REPEATEDLY. This made the Chiefs divert attention to the boundary and opened up the middle of the field for Hurts to run when the LB’s abandoned to cover the flats.

It was a beautiful coaching job. Vic Fangio deserves major kudos. I was happy when Miami jettisoned home - he was not the problem there.

Definitely a great scheme.  A they also kept Mahomes from rolling outside of the pocket.  He looked like a rabbit in a box.

I’m loving the fact that Beane and McD have realized that their defensive philosophy is not working against the Chiefs.    They are bringing in coaches with different skill sets than in previous years.

Smoke and mirrors.  Go hire a real DC with a defensive philosophy.  He will play the same Mr. Softie D but with different people to blame.  He has to keep the heat off himself

    Answer:

    1. The Bills have a top 2 QB that covers a lot of weaknesses

    2. We finally have an above average running game

    3. Consistency with our OL coupled with investing in it and a lack of injuries has given Buffalo a solid offensive line.

    4. The Bills are an opportunistic defense. The coaches maximize the CB/Safety talent, but as a whole, there is not a lot of talent.

    5. We have pretty good LB's, but the undersized 2 LB scheme does not usually help our pash rush, run defense, or pass coverage as much as we need.

    6. The front office has generally drafted poorly on the DL, or in their developing, trading, or FA the last 7 years.

    7. The Bills have done a  bad job in maximizing the WR room. Sure, Diggs was great but a headcase. Shakir was a hit. Cooper and Samuel significantly underperformed thus far, and Coleman has potential but so far is umproven.

    8. Beane and McDermott get too much credit for the Bills overall success of wins. That belongs to Allen's talent, the OL, and finally a running game, and a division that gives us 4-5 wins fair easily. Remember, McDermott is the defensive guy.

    9. Beane and McDermott do not get enough credit for improving the culture, consistency, and continuity of Buffalo becoming a playoff caliber/above average team.

Bottom line is Bills are a top 4-10 team each year. They overachieve, and kudos for that.

Rosterwise, the team is a top 12-16 roster as it relates to talent.

    QB-A

    OL-A-

    RB-B+

    WR-C

    TE-C

    ST-C-

    DL-D+

    LB-C+

    CB-B

    S-C

Coaching: McDermott is likeable. He is good. He may get us a ring. The challenge is he may be too good to replace, but he may not good enough to get us over the hump.

Take away Josh and this team is lucky to win 5 games

  10. We can’t beat the Chiefs because Andy Reid knows McDermott’s defensive weaknesses.  People forget that he was Andy’s DC with the Eagles. Andy fired him after 2 years as his DC.  He must of not liked what he saw.
