The reason why many like them is because the Bills made the playoffs last year, especially when it ostensibly looked to everyone that they were tanking by getting rid of so many talented players.  That buys them some BOTD.  Again if they hit on Allen and Edmunds, and do something good with that $90M in cap room next year...

I agree but it seems like making the playoffs was in spite of themselves. Not to rehash old arguments but there were mixed messages sent with Benjamin trade and the Tyrod benching. If we wanted to tank we should ridden Peterman out for the year to see what he had and positioned ourself to get a QB without giving up as many assets. Not trade for Kelvin Benjamin. Not go into the year unsure about what Peterman brought to the table.

  2. It's interesting how people's perceptions are shaped by their whether or not they "like" someone. Whaley brought a lot of talent in but the fan base always seemed to question his ability. McBeane has missed on personnel decisions and the team seems to have substantially regressed (possibly the worse team we've had in 20 years), and there's a segment of the fan base that's optimistic. If we're bad again next year, and nothing leads me to believe otherwise, why wouldn't we let them go?

I dont remember seeing anyone calling him a bust before the Bill's took him . They called him a project and probably needi g to sit a year, but that he has all the tools and has the highest ceiling of the guys available. It wasn't until Buffalo took him that he became a wasted pick bust. If the Broncos took him we would hear about the genius that is Elway getting the next GOAT

He's been called the biggest boom or bust prospect in the draft this entire time. And I think we'd all agree. High ceiling, high floor.

You are comparing qbs from 25 years ago? And Farve was a second round pick who was an alcoholic.  No one used to pass for 4,000 yards.  Now, Andy Dalton routinely does this.  It is a 100% different game.  You need to compare contemporaries.

They won'y understand you. You can't respond to emotion with logic. Obviously the game has changed. Even worse, Favre is a legend but far from the norm. For every Favre there's a JP Losman or Jamarcus Russell. RG3 is likely getting cut after being out of the league last year. Manziel is likely playing in Canada. But we're too good for Tyrod Taylor or Josh Rosen.

Allen sucks and crapped the bed last season when he knew he was top 5 consideration.

50% completion percentage against good competition. Wildly missing open receivers. But, but, but he can throw the ball hard.

Nick Foles had a near perfect team around him.  That's the point.  The Eagles were loaded last year.  They were only able to do that because they were paying Wentz and Foles combined less than a franchise QB not on a rookie deal would get.  That was the Seattle model for their Superbowl too..... loaded roster, cheap (though very good) young QB. There is almost no way the Bills can build a roster like that around McCarron given our cap position.  The easiest way is draft out rookie and build around him over the next 3 years while he is cheap.  By 2020 maybe we can follow the Eagles model.

I believe we can if we hit on our picks. Giving up a years worth of draft picks when there’s no can’t miss Qb I’d risky. Those picks could very well build the Bills nucleus for many years to come.

I'd still try and move up if I could get Josh Rosen. There is a reason teams move on from Alex Smith.  He is a really good QB (and I don't actually think McCarron can be Alex Smith v2.0) but he is too limited to go and win you a Championship unless everything around him is not just good but basically perfect.  If I had a QB of a Smith level though then I would not consider anyone other than Rosen, Darnold, Mayfield in this draft.

Is Alex smith better than Nick Foles? I think so. Good teams win, a QB is just a piece of that puzzle. Develop a system around a competent QB and we can win.

Does Doug Peterson come with him as OC?

At what point do we need more proof your offensive coaches and surrounding cast (Oline, WRs) is just as important.

I’d argue the supporting staff and coordinator are more important. We’ve seen Foles in different systems look awful. For some reason people think a QBs success only has to do with hisself.

He wasn't spineless when he went for it on 4th and goal from the 1 or 2 early in the game on Saturday.  Really set a tone..."This is the playoffs, we are here to win."

Loved that.  Not sure McDummy would have done the same in same situation, especially early in the game; he probably would have kicked the FG.

Haha spineless for quitting on the Bills

2016 the JAGS were 3-13.   They finished 1 - 10.  the 1 win was against Tennessee.

Getting Dareus improved their run defense a lot.   Who is responsible for that?  I don't know

My bad. I watched a lot of Jags football because I lived in the area and the feeling was they played a lot better during those last 3 games. And I felt that way as well. There was a distinct difference.

As there was a distinct difference in how we performed after he replaced Chan Gailey. Coughlin contributed but he you can't attribute all of his success to Coughlin.

To me, a team out performing their talent is a sign of good coaching and this year the Jags did that. He did it with Buffalo as well.

The Steelers underperformed their talent, which is why I'm not high on Tomlin.

He was pissed about Sammy and EJ and having no power to do anything about it.     Hey first timer Welcome to the NFL.

He also had to hire the SB winning coach Tom Coughlin to turn that boat in the right direction.

A lot of this team was in place with Gus Bradley. They just underachieved. And in recent history Coughlin struggled in New York. Sure he helped, but I wouldn't attribute his success to solely to Tom Coughlin.

Once again, Coughlin struggled for several years in New York. And that 9-7 Bills team completely over achieved. I still remember feeling like the team finally seemed prepared even though they were overmatched. I think he and Jim Schwartz would have made the playoffs and made a run if they got one more year.

I swear I'm not defending him. I'm saying, he's closer to the idea of the guy that we wanted than Tyrod was. We thought our D with Rex would be this year Jax good. That's all. Yeah...give them a real QB next year and they are legit SB favs out the gate

Oh okay. I think they should go after Bradford, Keenan, Alex Smith, or Cousins. It makes sense for them. I don’t think we’re as skilled on defense. We should draft a Qb for our new coordinator. I don’t think we should overpay when we need more than QB. Sorry for the rant.

Credit to Marrone and Hackett, I'm sure they learned from their mistakes. Bortles is the game manager we hoped TT could be. Played it safe most year but CAN step up when needed.

Bortles got spotted 21 points. Our D is nowhere near that Jax D. I lived In Jax for a while and watched them a lot. Tyrod not good but Bortles is terrible. He had a solid game but let’s not get carried away.
