  1. Smart. They're waiting for a better opportunity in '25...

Although with new ownership in DC, if they're willing to be hands-off and let a coach build their own program, that should be an enticing job for a young coach. I wonder if there's some trepidation with their new ownership or if guys like Slowik and Johnson feel like they can get a job with a franchise QB already in tow next year.

It’s a standard level learned through past experience though, not just plucked out of the sky. That’s not to say there isn’t a possible coach out there that could have succeeded where McDermott didn’t the last 3-4 years, but I don’t know  who that may be for certain and neither do you.

    Absolutely I don't, I agree with that.

The difference is I think it's worth risking being an early exit playoff team for the chance to possibly take the next step, even if that risk entails the possibility of losing being a 1 win in January team.

Or people just correctly realize that it could easily be a lot worse.

I think that is a standards thing though, the logic of "I'd rather have a Divisional Round appearance type of team than to take a risk to reach the next level, because we could be worse". And that's fine, but the standards part still rings true. But if you're happy with that, I think you do have the right coach leading this team for you.

    The part I quoted.

Nobody thinks getting knocked out of the playoffs in the second round is a "huge accomplishment" and nobody wants more of it.

It's just some bull#### strawman you create to try to make yourself feel superior to others.

    It isn't.

That's happened 3 years in a row and people want the man in charge of it back. McD's side of the ball has let us down in every single big game. The part of football that he was supposed to bring his proficiency in. He's also been a horrible in-game manager and has never put in the work to improve himself as one. He has gotten some world class performances from his QB in the playoffs, with really just 1 legitimate stinker in which his defense was also bad, and can never hold up his end of the bargain. He contributed heavily to the biggest meltdown in Bills history with 13 seconds.

Yes, the standards are incredibly low to want this guy back. It's either people feel that these seasons have been huge accomplishments or they like him personally more than the team's possible success. If you consider it a disappointment when his side of the ball and Head Coaching duties have largely been responsible for those disappointments...why would you want him back? Especially when he hasn't exhibited any improvement as a coach or even an intention to improve as one? And if you don't consider it to be a disappointment...then isn't that the standard you see as being fit? And do you believe the team has gotten better with these constant early exits since the apex in 20-21? I think these are all fair questions that lead to that sentiment.

I don't care for Taylor Swift, never have. Now I feel you Dems are saying I have to care for her? I really don't get it.

When did I say that? I literally made a post about how Celebrity endorsements don't impact elections at all and that nobody needs to care about Taylor Swift. The post I made that you're replying to was in response to someone who said people who don't have kids should have no say in the future of the country.

As someone who found a lot of what was in the Dunne piece to be illuminating and probably truthful...

Two things that have happened since have been kind of damning to that report:

The first was the Wink Martindale/Brian Daboll fallout. Whereas it looked like the rather public breakup of McDermott and Daboll was more on McDermott, seeing Daboll be unable to make it work with a second consecutive defensive mind makes one wonder.

The second was the fact that, as the OP mentioned, two coveted young coordinators chose to stick around in Buffalo rather than go elsewhere, even though both garnered significant interest. Babich, in particular, was surprising, choosing to stick around under a defensive-minded head coach who may still continue to call plays rather than potentially spread his wings under an offensive minded guy.

Lastly, the way the team rallied around McDermott after the piece came out also sort of poked a bit of a hole in the "no one likes playing for this control freak" narrative.

The more that time has gone on and the more that's happened, the less accurate Dunne's piece has looked.

With all of that said, the Bills still lost in heartbreaking fashion in the Divisional round to the Kansas City Chiefs, and the major thesis of Dunne's piece was that McDermott tenses up in big moments and that the Bills need to move on from him to ever reach the Super Bowl, so.....he hasn't entirely been proven wrong thus far.

Right. I believe two things can be true at the same time, and I don't know how anyone could say McD doesn't tense up in big moments. He's had a cavalcade of postseason and big game blunders here.

Who’s upset? Whoever chooses to become an evolutionary dead end is welcome to do so. But their opinions should not be taken at all seriously. If you have no stake in the future of the country you should have no say in the future of the country.

I don't think it's possible to be more narrow-minded than this.

First off, someone in their 30's could have 50-70 more years left on this planet. They could also have nephews, nieces, have students they've taught, children of friends, or even just flat out care about the next generation of people. What about people that are "evolutionary dead-end"'s that can't have children? What about people whose children have passed away or have children that don't want children? All of these people should be left without an opinion or say? And parents that are deadbeats or even just bad at what they do, using your logic, should?

I'm in the middle politically because I don't like either party but it's nonsense like this that reminds of me why I could never be a Conservative.

Or, particularly in the case of Brady, he realized a year with Josh Allen ends in a head coaching job in a year if successful… while Atlanta maybe not so much

Unfortunately I think the standards with the owner and half the fanbase are so low, that I’m not even sure another massive postseason disappointment gets McD Cannes.

Terry and a lot of fans feel that simply a Divisional Round exit with an elite QB is a huge accomplishment. It’s happened 3 years in a row and they want more of it.

I think if it was somewhere else, this could be a good analysis of the situation by Brady. Here, I’m not so sure. I guess if the offense is solid he probably feels he could still get hired away.

I guess we're just on opposite sides of this situation because clearly we see the evidence showing different things.  I think the massive changes from the 2020/2021 seasons to the 2022/2023 seasons were more than just a different play caller.  It's a schematic change away from what Josh and the offensive personnel do best.

Sure production is there, but you have Josh F'in Allen lol bro is SUPERMAN, you better produce lol.  He covers TONS of ills with his legs, his arm, being impossible to sack etc... when people throw out how we win and he puts up video game numbers as an endorsement of coaching, I'll throw back that Allen is an alien the likes of which we've never seen.... He was on the Ascent with Daboll, imagine how good he'd be if they crafted the offense better to him.

Short outs, screens, and short routes were a staple of this offense... That's a massive change from Daboll.  McDermott said in 2022 he wanted the offense to take fewer risks... Well the OC works for him, and the seasons entire script was short low risk passing.

Why does Josh always look better in the 4th quarter when the chips are down and he needs a play?  Because they let Josh be Josh ... He runs, he throws all over the field to more vertical routes, he superman's some hoes!  He goes full on Josh.   But for 3 quarters leading up to that, game in and game out for 2 years, it looks so difficult.

Why has Diggs' average depth of target in dropped to below 10 yards in 10 of his past 19 games and it's over 2 yards shorter than his career avg in Buffalo?  Dumb ass bubble screens and stuff HE'S NOT DESIGNED TO DO. Dude is one of the best route runners creating separation down field and we delegated him to gadget guy. Against KC he only had 2 targets over 7 yards.... One was the deep ball and one was 15 yards down field, the other 6 were: -7, -1, 1, 4, 5, 5.... Bro, come on... Tell me this isn't conservative hold the ball use short passes like runs, and control the clock football.  That's NOT Josh Allen, it's playing conservative and frankly scared.

It's how the Bills play now since Daboll left.  Dorsey did it, Brady did it ... It's a schematic plan and it comes from the HC and how HE wants the game to go.  Few challenges down field, just enough to keep them honest, short high percentage passes hoping for YAC.

It's what you do when you have Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB and no WRs... Not Josh Allen, Diggs, Cook, Kincaid....

But we can agree to disagree here man.  I just see a dramatic shift in offensive philosophy with how they constructed game plans, route trees, and eliminated the air raid scheme they would employ at will under Daboll. Everything looked difficult for the offense, because they're not playing to their strengths... So what are they playing to?

JMO I guess, but McDermott's desire to play mistake free football with field position, and let his D dominate.  Which 20 years ago with Kyle Orton sure.... But it's 2023 and you have QB1 JA17.... This scheme is a joke, not because these coaches don't know what they're doing, it because it's what the HC wants.

    Yes, yes, and more yes.

It's not even on the offensive side that people excuse McD for, they did it for years with Frasier. Frasier was carrying out McD's strategy and philosophy. If McD didn't like it at any point during all of those years, he could have fired him.

There has been one constant problem in our postseason disappointments, and anyone being objective can see it.

Can't say I'm surprised by the hire. McBeane are loyal guys and like to promote from within.

Brady had Josh running the ball a lot more and the offense seemed like they were having more fun out there. Total yards and points are pretty comparable between the Brady games and Dorsey games.

The Brady-offense was mediocre to bad in the wins against Chiefs, Chargers, Patriots, and Dolphins. I wonder how Brady would be viewed on here had Toney not lined up offside. Or if the DEF didn't force 4 turnovers vs the Pats. Or if the Dolphins had the punt return for a TD instead of us.

Ironically enough the defense saw a bigger improvement after we fired Dorsey than the offense did.

Yeah, I definitely think Brady was better than Dorsey...but he wasn't great. He might be the best guy to get a season to install his offense...but a real search and welcoming of different ideas would have been the right way to go.

Awesome.  So nobody really cares what TayTay says.

Celebrity endorsements historically don't make a difference. Even from Presidents that are popular within their own parties. Obama and Trump both didn't have a good success rate with their endorsements for lower offices even though they were wildly popular within their parties. For celebrities that aren't even in politics, the impact is even lower.

Which is why it's so silly that places like Fox News and these influencer clowns have their panties in a twist about Taylor Swift.

Yeah, that's the appeal. A woman rapidly approaching middle age with no responsibilities who acts like a teenager with zero consequences. She's living the modern woman's dream.

Why does this upset Conservatives though? I'm in my early 30's, single, no kids, and love life. I know people in my position who are also very happy...some who are not happy and really want a family but it just hasn't happened yet. I know people who are married and miserable....and married and very happy.

I don't push my way of living onto other people just because right now I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't think there's a right or wrong way, it's what works for you. There are people thriving and people who are miserable under both circumstances.

There's this weird push from Conservatives, it's all over their media, with their influencers pushing people to get married and have kids, even if it's not what they really want. This is supposedly from the party of freedom and non authoritarian.

As many know I’m far from a McD fan but I think this has to be agood move. McD biggest flaw is REALLY poor in-game management of clock, time outs and general strategy. I’ve got to think taking DC play calling off of his to do list can only help him there. That’s of course assuming that McD seeks help to study the lacking skill set I listed above. Let’s hope and pray!

But he was really bad at those things for the other 6 years he was a HC and not the DC

If McD is giving up defensive playcalling, this is a good thing. He's a major liability, anything that help ease the burden of his impact helps. We'll still have to win in spite of his in-game management, but at least it's one less hurdle.

In 10 career playoff games, Josh Allen has:

    Passer rating of 100.0

    64.6 completion percentage

2,723 yards passing, 21 touchdowns and 4 interceptions

    563 rushing yards and 5 TD's

That sounds like the stat line of a multiple Super Bowl Champion..............screw you, Kansas City!!!

    McD's the problem, not KC
