I think that to an extent that's true, however, consider, if it is true, then wouldn't taking the much more quickly developing not to mention higher-percentage patterns/plays be a solution to that.  Standing in the pocket even longer makes less sense in those circumstances.

And once he started doing that, wouldn't it then force the opposing D to start covering those players, which would take resources from deep coverages and/or the pass rush.

Yes, I agree. Which is why I say Dorsey is the wrong OC. He needs one that tells him these things directly. And Josh needs to believe they know best. Being friends with the QB coach/OC will not work, unless your Payton Manning. He was his own OC.

  2. I think we saw the same problem in the Steelers preseason game. Josh doesn't trust the Oline to keep a pocket clean. He is afraid to stand in there and take the hit. He has been injured in the pocket, not on the run. The problem I see is that coaches are saying stay in, stop running. But until he trust the oline to give him a few seconds that is hard. And he tends to want to wait for the long route to get open. Problem is the outlets are there and we could march right down the field using them.

I think 80-90% of what we saw last night can be filed under "Jets issue."  He has had some of his poorer play against that team.

I think he's going to tear it up in the weeks ahead.  He'll face a few other great defenses - I think the Pats have that, and certainly the Cowboys.  But in general, I think he'll use last night as a learning experience and be able to take real advantage of lesser defenses.

It will be interesting to revisit the hot takes - both here and nationally - in a few months. Obviously, I could end up being wrong - but I think he's going to really rise to this occasion.

I hope you are both correct!

  4. We peeked week 1 last year. I'd rather peek in the SB this year.

It's a long season. Josh will get right. It was a little too much believing he was king *****. Maddan Cover, dating an actress, all the attention. He got knocked down. Self-reflection will allow him to get back up. It's a wakeup call. They will respond. I do think it would benefit to have an OC that keeps Josh in check. It should not be Steff. I am OK with McD saying play smart. That is the edge I think Daboll had. Josh needs to stop forcing, use the checkdown. We should have won by at least 10.

Am I alone in lacking the energy and excitement of the last few seasons? Don’t get me wrong, I think that the Bills will be really good. Last year, I was sure that they were winning the Super Bowl. Maybe I just haven’t “recovered” from how last year ended but I’m not feeling that same energy as last year.

    You will after tonight's victory.

The position doesn't require seasoning.  I'm done here you can tell me I'm wrong when he shows it on the field. Can't argue with a homer. The time to win was ripe and mcD is gonna nurture a rb.. that's rich. This other clown puts him ahead of Kenneth walker for gosh sakes.. and he's serious.. wonder if they kept the 28 jersey. Lol... go Bills. Buh bye now

Go away for good. You are not a realist, you are a grump. You would be better of being a Miami fan, you certainly sound like one.

Singletary couldn't start for any other team and neither could cook. Fix that and evaluate Davis. ..kept ya breathing against Rivers and the Colts . Put ya 13 seconds from the superbowl, me, I'm keeping Davis

Why are you quoting yourself? But I agree Davis is a 4th rounder that is a mid level #2 WR. He is better than people want to give him credit for. I hope he gets resigned before having a strong season and pricing the Bills out. Sherfield looks like the real deal. And Harty is what we wanted in McK.

You are wrong but I will end this conversation before it goes any further and results in bans, lets talk about the matchup tonight, and allow for opinions of all types!

I hope they ban you just because your crying is annoying!  And I think the Mods are often too strict!

Davis ain’t reliable. In fact he’s the opposite of reliable.

Last year he was not. Although overall he isn't that bad.

Sorry don't pay too much attention in the offseason or pre-season.  Yes free agency and read up on the Bills picks in the draft, but that's all.

I already had 12-5 as the expected record and a 1 or 2 seed.

Now I'm reading division up for grabs and a dogfight to make the playoffs.

    What did I miss?

Arguably, Jets got better with Rogers and Cook. Miami has a strong roster.

so the division is likely more competitive. If Bills play up to their potential, none of it should matter.

Anyone know if the Bills had interest in JD McKissic? I wonder if the Bills would ever try to sign him.

We tried to sign him last year and he choose to go back to Washington. Bridge probably burned.

  11. KC has a GM that made good draft picks and has managed salary cap well. Plus, Reid and Mahomes can attract players to sign with the team. They are in good shape. At the time Mahomes contract looked crazy. But it was a smart contract for KC and keeps them with an All Pro QB for most of his career.

Bengals will have cap issues soon. Not sure how you pay both WR and give Burrow his contract.

Bills are in ok shape. If drafting would have been a little better, we wouldn't look bad at all. But I think some of the DL picks will turn that corner this year. I see Groot and AJ turning into real contributors. Especially with McD calling the plays. Maybe half that list won't be on the team next year. I think Beane is doing the best he can at managing the cap. This offseason moves look to be better than the past few years. Let's win the Lombardi this year and we see a younger team next year.

The decline in Mahomes' TD pass yardage probably means that other teams adjusted to the Chiefs' deep passing game to take it away. That became easier in 2022 since Tyreek was not there.

If you play a 2 high safety shell with a light box (as the Bills have done for the past several seasons) to take away the deep ball, the Chiefs have adjusted. Their running game was better in 2022 especially against a light box and they likely threw more short to medium passes.

As others have said, teams adjusted to Josh by taking away the deep ball. At the beginning of last year Josh was taking the short to medium throws. At some point he started playing hero ball and taking deep shots. Any thoughts on why he changed?

In any event, I hope and expect that Josh will learn patience and stick with it. If we can improve our running game that will help open things up for run-pass options and play action passes.

It was the elbow injury. It hurt more and he was less accurate on short throws with the injury. Therefore, he wanted to throw the long ball. We couldn't stick to an effective running game (I blame Dorsey for that), to help alleviate the issue. And Josh had no time to sit back and wait for an open WR. It seemed like nearly every play someone was coming full speed at Josh off the snap.

That just shows how crappy an oline we have given Allen. Considering he often escapes with runs as well! Mahomes has had better protection and more weapons his whole career than the make shift crap we have put in front of Allen. I am pleased we focused on O this offseason!

    My totally unbiased answers:

Here are the five questions the article asks:

    1. How does Rodgers change the balance of power in the division? .... NO! the Bills are still #1
    2. Is this now the most QB-rich division in the league? ..... The Bills' #17 carries this by himself!
    3. Which QB is surrounded by the best talent? ..... Bills!

    4. Which team has the best defense to shut down an elite QB? ..... Bills!

    5. Which team helped itself the most in the draft? .... Bills!

I think on paper, this could all be true.

    - We needed to keep Josh clean, what we did has great potential to do this.

    - We needed better offensive weapons. What we did, looks like we got some great pieces. Can it all come together?

    - We needed a more aggressive D. Watched a video of McD's D's when he was the DC. His D's 3rd down stop percentage was at lowest 14th best. Last year the Bills was 31st. We were awful on stopping teams on 3rd down. McD will call much more unconventional line ups and stunt/blitzs on 3rd then we have seen in awhile! This will help out so much. Fraiser was stubborn. Had to win with the front 4. But we didn't have the horses to compete there. This years D will look much better, even if it statistically is worse on paper, but it wont be that big of a drop.
