I remember arguing with a friend that the Bills going to 4 straight SB's was an amazing achievement.  He countered that it wasn't such a big deal because they played in the weaker AFC.

That bothered me so I did a little research and proved my friend wrong and showed just how WEIRD those Bills SB teams were.  The bottom line is that had the Bills played in the NFC they still might have gone to 4 straight SB's and lost every one of them to an AFC team - my proof:

During the 4 years the Bills went to the SB their inter-conference record against the NFC was an astonishing 14 - 2!  And this included beating a lot of NFC playoff teams!  This also included beating, ON THE ROAD, two teams (Giants & Cowboys) that would go on and beat them that year in the SB!

Looking even closer the two losses were season ending games in which Buffalo HAD ALREADY clinched the home field advantage throughout the playoffs!  The Bills rested many of their starters in what were to Buffalo, meaningless games.

The ONLY plausible explanation for the Bills SB losses is that someone put a hex on them.

Are we really talking about drafting a guy who was only the third leading rusher on his college team (and worse YPC than the other 2 as well) in the first round?  Really?  Seriously?  I don't care how good he supposedly is, if he was that good he would have led his team in rushing or at worst be a close second.  I mean, this is no Thurman and Barry situation.

Thanks for the voice of reason!

In what sort of f#*$%@ math does RB#3 on a college team = NFL pick #9?

Crazy thing is , you can easily throw Taron Johnson on that list too! Kid is a stud and was playing with a bum shoulder since week 4 I believe. Still , he was great in coverage and great against the run. Absolute steal in the 4th round .

Anytime you have a draft where you got 3 steals that are legit starters going forward, plus your franchise QB and Franchise QB of the defense , that is a culture changing draft and sets your franchise up for long term success

I really hope that, years from now, people look back on last year's draft as a defining (and positive) turning point in the Buffalo Bill's history.

I would really like that pick.  If we are going to tailor the offense around Josh, I think a mobile backup with a big arm would be a very sound investment.

I'm sure Palmer is doing very well for himself acting independently, but I kind of wish we would just make him a godfather offer to be the QB coach exclusively with Josh.

    Part of me agrees, completely!

Another part of me thinks that having Palmer work with Allen outside of the allotted timeframe provided by the CBA is incredibly more valuable. Just take a look at how restrictive the CBA really is:

    https://www.nflpa.com/active-players/off-season-rules

Any extra, McCoach-approved tutelage under a well-respected guide like Palmer is icing, baby; pure icing. And it circumvents the CBA, legally.

Speed- I think of solely size guys and I’ve got bad memories of Benjamin !

    I agree, at the moment...

But I think back to when Bills fans gave Marquis Goodwin the moniker "Glass".

WR styles are like politics: one election swings right, and the people eventually get pissed; next election comes, and they swing left; then they get disappointed and swing back... ad infinitum.

I jut want somebody who can catch the ball. Is that too much to ask? I think we drafted Zay with that in mind (CFB record for career receptions), but he got the yips (year 1), then came down with a nasty case of the Peterman-and-journeymen-are-passing-me-the-footballs (part of year two).

  6. I scope out a lot of mock drafts, and we keep being paired with DK Metcalf. NOT impressed... The numbers:

    Receiving & Rushing

        Receiving Rushing Scrimmage
Year School Conf Class Pos G Rec Yds Avg TD Att Yds Avg TD Plays Yds Avg TD
    Career Ole Miss         67 1228 18.3 14 0 0   0 67 1228 18.3 14
    2016 Ole Miss SEC FR WR 2 2 13 6.5 2 0 0   0 2 13 6.5 2
    2017 Ole Miss SEC FR WR 12 39 646 16.6 7 0 0   0 39 646 16.6 7
    2018 Ole Miss SEC SO WR 7 26 569 21.9 5 0 0   0 26 569 21.9 5

Also, neck injury... Hello, Eric Wood... Don't want to lose a valuable player and draft position due to injury.

How do those numbers garner a #9 pick?

Either 1) the national mock authors are idiots, 2) they think we are idiots, or 3) they see a need at WR and just plug in the name they hear a whole lot of draft talk about.

Also would pass on Noah Fant, TE - Iowa. Saw his snaps decreasing; mentions by coaches of "lack of desire."

Smells like Benjamin at the TE position...

    How so?

Jones was the 4th overall WR taken in the '17 Draft.  For a high 2nd-rounder much more is expected.

5 WRs drafted after him have posted more yards, in all but one case significantly more yards than Jones.

3 rookie WRs from this year's class posted more yards this season than he did.  They were drafted about where he went;  10 & 12 spots ahead and 4 behind.

11 WRs from this year's class had more yards in their rookie seasons than Jones did.  Nearly half of them were round 3 and day-3 picks.  9 were drafted at positions later than his.

The NFL has made it easier than ever, literally, for QBs and WRs to excel in the passing game.  This is why RBs have little value anymore as well.

Meanwhile, Jones ranked 177th (out of 202) in catch % this season, well ahead of where he was last season.  Last season he was 210th out of 212 with only Kamar Aiken and Breshad Perriman behind him.

He hasn't had a single 100-yard game in two seasons.  This past game was only his second game of over 70 yards and it too, like most of the most of the rest of his play, was in he equivalent of garbage time.  Even in this past game, 58 of hiis 93 yards and one of his two TDs came when the game was already over 35-17 in the 4th quarter.  He only had 3 catches for 35 yards and all of his drops in the first 3 quarters.

If you look at his splits you'll see that he's a poster-boy for garbage time stats.  He was at EC too, that was easily seen, for anyone looking that is, well before that draft.

    Those are all facts.

Isn't it simply possible that he was a bad pick at 36th overall and the staff misjudged the value in the NFL of a QB in college that also made a living, in a spread offense often featuring 5 WRs, in garbage time?  Because to me that's clearly the case and was upon drafting him.  All of that was out there for anyone that did the homework, which the team should have done.

In order to be a starting WR in the NFL you have to be reliable, and there's absolutely nothing on record that even remotely indicates that Jones is reliable when the game is on the line or in the early stages.  This ain't college, there's no room for a spread offense like EC ran, perptually, and the talent that Jones is going against is far different than what he faced in college and he simply hasn't answered the bell like his draft peers have.  He doesn't beat anyone.

He's a project, one that isn't worth the time and energy and that likely will never be more than a depth-caliber WR.  If McBeane treats him as one of two starters next season they do so at their own risk.

    Facts:

    Peterman

    Taylor

    Anderson

All threw many passes to Zay.

    Fact:

    All threw many bad passes.

I was not only reading your sarcasm but responding with sarcasm about ranch madness.

    You must be new here.

    Bottom line:

    1) Jerry is good not great, very disruptive player

    2) as other astute posters pointed out, there  are legitimate gaps holding him back

    3) Jerry gets held, so did Bruce, so did Reggie, so does Mack. They all do

    4) the nfl is NOT conspiring to keep Jerry from breaking Bruce Smith’s all time sack record, by singling him out and not calling holds on just him

    5) your tinfoil hat crafted from the wings clearly has ranch dressing residue

    6) being done is your best move

    Wide right

Easy man, we're all bills fans, no need to throw ranch at the guy.  I think his point is valid that Jerry's poor rep with officials doesn't do him any favor when it comes to holding calls.  These refs are human too.

Thanks. I appreciate it. It appears some folks in here are capable of applying logic.

    Slow your roll brah...

I pontificated how interesting the topic about Hughes being so close to elite was, how he’s just lacking something to push him over the top and sons posters said suggest lack of holding calls.

    I’m saying that doesn’t wash.

Are you Following the debate or just looking to argue to justify your irrational need to ranch up perfectly good wings?

By saying that I can put ranch on wings, I'm implying that anyone can do that, BUT they'd be wrong. Its implied sarcasm, but I'm done. If that flew over your head, then I can see why you would also miss such nuanced occurances as miss blown holding calls, or the result thereof: of the 10+ blown calls against Hughes this season, if 5 led to sacks, he would be considered elite.

I really can't argue with you, if you can't read sarcasm, or understand what I meant by the ranch on wings comment. You missed that; you miss clearly blown calls.

    You miss, sir. You miss.

    I'm done.

I do t buy one issue with 1 ref is representative of a league wide officiating conspiracy to marginalize an elite player into an average stater.

You are putting words in my mouth. I never said leaguewide conspiracy. I watch every game, and every game, Hughes is held, repeatedly. There is no denying that.

Also, the NFL realized it cannot support refs who cannot make fair judgements, because they badmouth players, and turn their heads when they are blatantly being held. That's also been proven, by the NFL's decision to suspend that particular ref.

If you want to call those two points a crazy conspiracy theory, you sure well can. I can call ranch the right thing to put on wings...

I wonder if the nfl was in on 9/11 and the moon landing too?

So, you do believe that a ref who calls a player the B word can be an impartial judge of their play? Just admit that you believe this, and I'll stop arguing. You win, if this is what you believe. Enjoy your cake.

How has this obvious elaborate conspiracy eluded the press for so long?

I cant belive no one has come forward on this league wide conspiracy...

Nobody... not even the NFL that put one particular ref (who wasn't calling holds against Hughes) on administrative leave... that didn't happen...

    oh wait...

    https://amp.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000996246/article/ref-accused-by-jerry-hughes-placed-on-admin-leave?networkId=4595&site=.news&zone=story&zoneUrl=url%3Dstory&zoneKeys=s1%3Dstory&env&pageKeyValues=prtnr%3Daround-the-league%3Bteam%3Dbuf%3Bconf%3Dafc%3Bdvsn%3Dace%3Bplyr%3Djerry_hughes%3Bplyr%3Dtrenton_williams&p.ct=Around the NFL&p.adsm=false&p.tcm=%23fff&p.bgc1m=%230964bf&p.bgc2m=%23053a74&sr=amp

Looks like the NFL doesn't admit it, outright, but when egregious behavior and blatant non-calls occur, even the NFL sometimes takes actions. If you believe that a ref calling a player the B word will consistently fairly judge their play... well... you must be a wonderful judge of character.

See now this would be an interesting topic. Why isn’t Hughes Elite? He’s so darn close. There is just something missing I can’t quite peg it. His motor is relentless, he flashes elite playmaking, his size isn’t far off from Mack... he certainly has a edge to him. What’s missing

Refs who call holding on O linemen... that's what's missing.
