    Unpopular opinion but I would rather find someone younger and cheaper. McD is very good at coaching defensive backs.

    Except for our physical specimen of a first round pick that he doesn't like so he makes him inactive.

    Definitely in the top two, depending on how Watson works out.

    That Bryce Young trade up was historically AWFUL as well. Especially now that it's #1 overall pick.

    They were just like "ahhh ok, sure we'll throw in our future QB's only WR even though you're saying yes immediately without this player"

    I'd be on-board with all except Dobbins.

    I don't think most people understand just how catastrophic an achilles tear is for an NFL skill player. There is almost a 0% chance that Dobbins will ever be an effective player again. There has never been an NFL RB who has been anywhere near their previous level after that injury, almost all are out of the league within a year of their attempted return- see below. This is a 2 year old list, but you can add Cam Akers to it as well.

    Was it a different D'Onta Foreman that had 100 carries and 4 YPC for the Bears this year? (No, it wasn't)

    Defensive stats:

    No. 2 - TDs allowed
    No. 4 - INTs

    No. 4 - Sacks
    No. 4 - Point differential
    No. 8 - Yds/att

    No. 9 - Fumble recoveries

    Biggest loss differential - 6 points

    We are top 10 in almost every defensive category, despite the rash of injuries. Visually, the defense had the look - aggressive and smart. How McD had this unit playing as well as it did with these massive injuries is nothing short of amazing IMO.

    People calling the defense "garbage" and other vapid names have a poor take and that's saying it lightly.

    People keep talking about this: we lost 1 guy? We lost Milano. We upgraded Tre White with Rasul Douglass. We didnt have "massive injuries"

    In the play offs we were banged up but in the regular season (which is where those stats come from) there was 1 injury.

    His interview with Florio and Simms was better. Some really interesting snippets:

    - He says his mechanics got off this year because of some of the ailments with his shoulder but he acknowledges he has to get back to working on them (interesting that he said "with the appropriate people" - anyone know if he is still working with Jordan Palmer? I think Palmer did so much on the original mechanical clean ups with the over striding);

    - He talked about his internal dialogue with himself and it is the one worry I have with Josh in terms of temperament. I love that he holds himself accountable but I do worry at times he gets in his own head about stuff and internalises it;

    - Cites the Ty Dunne piece as the one of two factors in the turnaround (without prompting) and then when asked further agrees with Rasul Douglas's view that McDermott's response to that article was the moment things changed;

    - Acknowledges that if he'd just slid up slightly in the pocket on the Shakir throw he probably has a touchdown;

    - His favourite throw is the Jake Kumerow touchdown in Denver.

    Really good interview.

    MINE... F***ING.. TOO.

    I have probably watched that play 600 times. It's absolutely unbelievable. The ball went 40 yards in the air and wasn't but 13 feet off the ground and showed ZERO signs of coming down anytime soon.

    It's a trick question; there aren't any.

    This is a god awful take. There are many many many many many many differencres.

    It’s really disappointing (to me) what a horrible human being we’re finding out that Favre is.

    Through his entire run with Green Bay, Favre was my favorite player in the NFL.

    From that point, he’s really put himself on display as an absolute piece of sh!t.

    A really good friend of mine is from small town Miss (knows Favre) and this is not news to anyone that knows the family. He was basically a small town trailor park guy that just got famous but never let that side of him leave. He is widely regarded as a POS by many in Miss. (and has been forever).

    ok yes, agreed, but if williams comes anything close to bernards play this year, how can u justify not playing a little more 4/3...im sure they can figure a way to keep johnson n williams on the field if the situation arises...iffff williams plays like bernard did this year, u dont keep that player on the bench...im sayin a little more not a 50/50 split or anything but some more if williams play erupts...

    It's never a bad thing to have too much talent.

    It would benefit us in other ways, as well. We don't know what Milano is going to look like coming off that injury.

    Doesn’t this scream playing Taron full time at FS (assuming Williams is one of your 11 best D players)?  It solves a lot of problems.

    Not even the slightest chance possible.

    Nickel and Safety do 2 very different things. Safety's rarely cover slot WR, play man, etc etc. Moving Taron to safety would be completely changing his skill set. THAT or he would just be a safety in the box and they'd have 2 more safeties on the field. nothing would change.

    if by any chance williams comes on like bernard did, u would seemingly have 2 play more..no 2 ways around it

    That's not true. He would still be the 3rd best linebacker, we play a nickel base defense. We have 1 all-pro in front of him and another potential all-pro in front of him and Taron Johnson is an All-pro. Taron plays the run pretty well and he won't be coming off the field.

    There are more than 2 ways around it, actually.

    This is a VERY interesting situation that has developed. Eric Bienemy has problems and can't seem to find a head coaching gig and now gets replaced as OC in Washington. Wow!

    It's almost as if... he's just not a good coach. He's been interviewed by 15+ teams and hasn't been hired. Something isn't clicking and this is a nothing story.

    For better or worse this does give us a real look into the coaching staff (McDermott primarily) and organization's mindset.

    Inside the organization they clearly don't believe that they're losing due to coaching.

    I absolutely agree with you, unfortunately.

    What makes you think these guys won’t have some new concepts or ideas in their new roles?

    Because they're guys from the system and have learned from the same guy for years and there has been no sign under McDermott that change is accepted.

    Will anybody be brought in as an external candidate?!!

    I do believe this is one of McDermott's faults... to an extent.

    It's great for continuity, etc .. I get that but there has to be new faces, new ideas, new concepts, new coaches that are going to challenge and move the needle for us.

    It's been said on here 10000x about the definition of insanity.... and this is proving to be true. Keeping all of the same people in the building and on staff is not a recipe to 'get over the hump"

    hell, I dont think our special teams coordinator lost his job and they were atrocious this year.

    If position coaches were so important, the 2013 Washington Redskins should have won the superbowl

    1/10 take. Those guys were in their 20's at that time. Most of them are now head coaches and/or OC/DC's.

    So is your stance that position coaches aren't important and we can do without them? Just need OC, DC, STC? Or do you just not understand how the coaching hierarchy works on a day to day basis? I can help out if need be.

    Position coaches really mean little to me. It's the Coordinators and McDermott that determine the Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams strategies. A position coach basically just runs guys through individual position drills, gets a little film time, and builds players confidence through rah-rah. I don't think a position coach has a massive impact on player performance, unless they're literally not doing the job.

    I don't think you truly understand the in's and out's of coaching if this is the case:

    McDermott brings the coaches in: tells each position coach what he expects and their leverage, alignment, etc. on given plays/ concepts.

    It's then on them to go implement and teach it. Sure McDermott installs game plans and does film, etc but a LOT is on the position coaches.

    This might be one of the worst takes i've ever seen. This isn't high school football in WNY with 3 coaches on staff.

    With all of that said, the Bills still lost in heartbreaking fashion in the Divisional round to the Kansas City Chiefs, and the major thesis of Dunne's piece was that McDermott tenses up in big moments and that the Bills need to move on from him to ever reach the Super Bowl, so.....he hasn't entirely been proven wrong thus far.

    That doesnt change the fact he isn't a great coach when the going gets tough. He simply does, has, and always will fold in critical situations.
