I was watching a pre season game last year.  49ers against somebody.  The announcer said he thought that would happen and was already starting.  He said teams have gone to smaller faster defenders.  Teams will load up on road grader offensive lineman and ram the football down their throat.

Pretty much what we did in 2015 and 2016.  Then, we hired Rico and he had better ideas. :)

An example of what that might look like is what the Saints did to the Bills in one series last year. Drove the entire field and scored without a pass. Not saying having their QB didn't make that much easier.. but if someone dominated like that on the ground and you couldn't stop it you would be completely helpless like the Bills were at the time.

  2. I only hope they can identify a QB prospect better than past regimes. Not new info on here but in the last 17 years only 17 of the 50 1st round QB's went on to have a franchise changing career.. and that's if you throw in Chad Pennington. Two of the 33 busts where friggin Bills picks. 9 QB's taken later than round 1 had impact.. 0 of those were friggin Bills picks.

So to sum it up.. my biggest fear is these guys not knowing what an NFL QB looks like even if he visits them 4 times.

  3. Most likely to have a meltdown, be out of the league and selling shoe laces on ebay in 3 years- Baker Mayfield

Most likely to be doing magazine ads for a kids line of Isotoner gloves - Sam Darnold

Most likely to shatter George Blanda's  TD to Int ratio - Josh Allen

Most likely to star in a Snickers "I'm Batman" commercial - Josh Rosen.

BORING !! Baseball use to be my favorite sport growing up until they started to play 900 games a year !!

Let us know when they have like 20 games left & every game counts then i'll watch !!

    Sorry just saying ...

How old are you? They have played at least a 140 games since 1920.. then 154 games and went to 162 in 1961.

I would choose NBA or MLB > NFL all day if I had the skills to excel in each.

Some guy named Greg Holland just signed a one year 14 million dollar deal in baseball.

Thats a sweet deal for a middle reliever.

I'd love to play baseball because I love doing it.. and yeah that money is pretty sweet. But if I was going to choose a skill it would be golf. I hate watching it because it bores me into a coma..and I'm pretty bad at it so playing isn't much fun either. But it would be if I was good at it and getting paid.

Almost always playing in warm, sunny weather.. can play for years and years because there isn't much wear and tear on the body. And hot chicks.. I don't know what hot chicks has to do with anything but I always have to throw in hot chicks.

I don't think whoever gets drafted at 2 will be available at picks 4-8, even a non QB like Barkley or Chubb, but that's JMO.   However, question two is very valid. I do believe they already had a conversation with the Giants about the number two pick, I'm just not sure they would tell them exactly what player it is they covet though, as I feel like doing that is giving away too much information, even if insider knowledge says we 99.9% are leaning towards this guy.   But I DO hope that if we intend on moving to 2, waiting until draft night is not a good idea.  Any pick after that I suppose waiting would be the best bet.

The uncertainty and the anticipation are literally going to kill me.  As much as I am looking forward to our biggest draft night EVER, the anxiety and stress over it make me want this sh!t to be over already....

Would you be ok with moving to #2 if it's Mayfield? I'm thinking that's who they want.

They don't have to tell each other who they covet.. just make it clear they aren't ready to trade yet depending on pick 1. Perhaps Cleveland throws a curve ball and doesn't pick a QB at #1 knowing they can get a good one to sit behind Tyrod 3 picks later. Heck the first Qb could possibly go to the Jests.. not likely but possible.

I agree.  I know I'm impatient as they come, but I just feel like if we are indeed going to number 2 and its for one guy they have in particular, GIVE THE DAMN PICKS and get in the number 2 spot. I feel like the longer we wait, the lesser chance we'll have of getting our guy.

And what happens if you move up to #2 now and Cleveland picks that ONE particular guy? Take someone at 2 you might have been able to get at picks 4-8?

And what if they already talked to the Giants about what they might want and they said there is ONE particular guy we want..call us back after we see who Cleveland picked.

Pete's been pushing this notion for a while..........not sure why another thread was needed but ya' know,  LAMP'ers gonna' LAMP.

    1) You always take the QB if you can get him.   Drew Brees has had a career 20X as impactful to his franchise than the player the Chargers picked before him LaDanian Tomlinson........who was an absolute SUPERSTAR HOF RB.   LT stopped being a star in 2007 and Brees is still going strong.   QB is a long term investment at the one position that really matters wrt long term competitiveness.   Star QB's get stadiums built and create the kind of vast, broad fanbases that create franchise stability.   Brees, Brady, Eli, Big Ben, Rivers.........these guys have been around a long time and may not retire for 2-4 more years, respectively.   It's really not hard to see why you gotta' get a QB if you can.

    2) You're chances of hitting on all those picks are beyond miniscule........just look at the Bills track record in round 2........most of those guys that failed were actually the same or better prospects at the time.    This is NOT great draft............ESPECIALLY for the money positions like pass rusher/LT/WR or even CB.    What's good about this draft are the QB's at the top.   Otherwise it's decidedly low quality in terms of players who directly impact the passing game..........which is the focus of the league!!

    2) Free agency doesn't allow you to stack chips for long.    This isn't Jimmy Johnson circa 1990 where you had first contracts that ran 6 years and could therefore stack and develop.    The first contracts today are essentially 4 year deals now.  Sammy Watkins was gone after only 3 years because they had to decide on his 5th year option after year 3.    Picks #12 and #22 are going to command a combined $20M+ cap number in year 5!   Now figure in that with a BPA approach you are probably looking at drafting guys at low dollar positions like LB or a run stuffing DT with those picks.    It's

Bottom line......if you don't have a QB you are basically at square one in terms of long term competitiveness regardless of whether you have stars at other positions.

The smart play is to try to fill those $15M per year "money positions" early in the draft............then fill in with proven pros at the non-money positions in FA.   Doing it the other way around is how you end up being a farm system for the rest of the league,  developing NT's and guards and LB's and safeties for good teams to buy on the open market in 4-5 years.

Best detailing I have seen yet for swinging for the fences.

We should probably just toil in mediocrity with this team for eternity due to the fact that it costs way too much to take a chance on what could be a franchise Qb. I don't understand this reasoning or the we have way too many holes to trade up. I think Beane has done a good if not great job filling as many holes as possible in free agency so far. Trade up and take a chance on what could be a game changing QB I personally am sick of getting leftovers and has been and never was type QBs. Trade up because that's why we loaded up on draft picks to do and get your guy no matter the cost that is the biggest and has been the biggest glaring hole on this team for a long time now.

I'm guessing the reasoning is because you could give up the farm and end up with a guy that turns into a leftover never has been never will be flop. Even knowing the chances of that go down by moving up it is still possible. Probably a risk aversion thing. Stocks or money market?

Adding to that.. I'm betting most would be ok if we could pull off a swap to get in front of the Dolphins if we could do it with just picks 12 and 22.
