That's different. There have been far smarter players in the NFL than Rosen. Teams are more concerned he's prone to injury, played with a great line in college and probably won't in the NFL. Loves things outside of football. Comes from a family with money. Could retire if it gets tough. Fitzpatrick went to Harvard. So did Marcellus Wiley. I believe teams see Rosen closer to other rich kids or smart kids like Myron Rolle, Jonathan Martin and Matt Leinart. You can't know what his personality means if he's challenged. If he fails. Football is a business not a sport. They're investing not drafting. You have to judge based on investment. Can you invest in him. Will he invest in you? That's his problem. JMO.
Wiley went to Columbia.
I get that that's the chatter around him, but I don't buy it for a second.

If the Bills were to stay at #12, he or Edmunds would be my choice.

You can get great guards in the lower half of the 1st and good guards in the second round.
That was sarcasm.

But not Fitzpatrick who went to Harvard? It has nothing to do with that. He's got a real shot at busting that Bills fans don't want to see.
Ok then. Threatened by Rosen's willingness to speak his mind.
Every QB has a real shot at busting out of the league.

Trade idea since a 34 year old OG retires
Trade up to 2 and get your freaking QB
...OR we could trade up to #1 and take a guard.

That last guy? His team thought he was a bust, apparently. And none of these guys, none of them, had the pedigree of Richie Incognito.
Sure. It's easy to replace a Pro Bowl Guard. You can ask the Giants. It isn't easy, and it certainly isn't cheap. If you want to replace your Pro Bowl or nearly Pro Bowl level interior lineman (Wood) with players that have been ranked as severely below replacement level (Bodine) and who's fans celebrate their leaving?
Not a problem at all. Unfortunately, I value offensive lineman and think that jacksh!t doesn't happen til they block.
QB > OG
Are we really having this conversation!

Richie Incognito must be the single greatest lineman to have ever laced up a pair of shoes.
Jesus Christ...

Now you're getting silly. You brought up Richie's age...he was out best lineman last year..period.
His position isn't hard to replace.
Guards don't lead teams to division titles or Super Bowl victories.
You got it now?

this kid is next level. he's 21 yrs old and he's more mature than I am. he is very conscientious and self aware. that is something you usually don't learn until much later in life. when i was 21 it was all about me. he is very advanced for his age to do the type of critical thinking he is doing. nothing wrong with trying to understand the world and where you can fit in. isn't that why we are here?
I've said it numerous times. People are threatened by his intelligence.
Maybe Rosen should've gotten drunk and arrested, trying to run from the cops? A few crotch grabs, perhaps? Then he'd just be a feisty competitor.

Ahhh yes. A guard retiring spells the end of an entire season.
What tf are you guys/gals smoking?!

But he was very good, his age means squat. How old are Brady and Brees?
They are QBs. Elite, all time great QBs. Their position matters more.
Richie is retiring. Good for him. The sky is not falling.

An elite guard, and our best offensive lineman by far.
Guards aren't important enough that you pass on a QB. That's just ridiculous!

LMAO.
Yeah. He's the only guy that played at a truly high level on your line. When he goes, you now have a line made up of three players significantly below league average play. The other two include Groy and really, a Guard playing LT.
It's about context; there's not nonsense about having potentially four guys that are terrible. And then you'd still like to move up in the draft, now looking to replace a center (presuming you don't want Bodine starting) and a guard, with very possibly no 1st round picks because you surrendered them in order to draft ... a rookie QB.
Yeah. I'm overreacting.
Post Script; if Incognito's health is really that bad, well, what are you going to do. He's a warrior and hardly a jerkoff. We're not passing on a QB because our 35 year old guard, who was drafted in the 3rd round, is retiring.
Yes. You are overreacting.

Knee jerk reaction here, I know.
Does this change how we look at McCoy? We'll be running out a "journeyman QB", rookie QB and Nathan Peterman with no real WRs and we've lost 3 of our best offensive lineman...
I love love love Shady, but I think he deserves a chance to win. I don't think that is us next year.
A realistic take on the situation.
We'll see how Beane and McDermott go about this. There is something to be said for vet leadership and Shady is still the best player on the team.

IF hes done I dont think the Bills can afford to trade up for a qb. Way too many holes and possibly the worse OLine in the NFL. Not a good mix
That's what McCarron is for.
QB is still the most important position in football. Let's not get crazy.

Yeah, now is not the time to play hard ball with RIchie Incognito.
If the guy wants another $1.25 MM then cut someone and make it happen. If you don't have Incognito, you can't move up in the draft. It's pretty much that simple.Nonsense. He's a guard.

It just makes sense and when the Jets traded to #3, I was certain. He's the only QB guaranteed to be there.
They could have had Jackson at #6 if he was the target.
-
Andrew Luck hasn't thrown a football in almost 2 years and he wasn't that great, outside of 1 season, before the injury. Just played in a very weak division.
-
Donovan McNabb was another that did a lot with little around him.
(Todd Pinkston/James Thrash)
The hell was Andy Reid thinking?! You got a taste what could have been when he had TO for a season.
Carolina is currently selling their franchise short by not putting much around Cam.
Look for Trubisky to make strides this season because of the exact theme of this thread. The Bears get it!

Then why does the NFL test them at all?
You don't make any sense.
For the appearance of wanting to do the right thing. That and public/federal pressure.
Boxing and MMA -true combat sports- just in the past 8 or 9 years started taking PED testing seriously. For decades, they didn't bat an eye.
-
I'm not sold on Dabs either, but I wasn't happy about the Leslie Frazier hire and he has proven me wrong so far.

They didn't trade Tyrod to draft Lamar Jackson.
That would be stupid.
