  1. First off I'm a big fan of your takes, I don't always comment because most of the time they speak for themselves but I just don't care for this take although I might be in the minority here.  Just because we don't have a #1 WR on the roster doesn't mean we shouldn't have 1, I don't see the NFL changing in that sense. I think Beane has really ***** the bed when it's come to the WR position or at least planning for the future at the position. I see a bunch of young teams that are stacked at the WR position which Buffalo never seemed to do with Allen until 2020 when they finally got Diggs, until then it was John Brown, Cole Beasley and the Kelvin Benjamin's of the world and once again the entire season will be on Allens back or his arm in this sense.

I swear I read the framework of this post in late August of 2017 when the Bills acquired 6'3" Jordan Matthews to pair with 6'4" free agent signee Andre Holmes.    Except, of course, those guys actually had experienced *some* success at the NFL level.    Matthews had averaged almost 900 yards per season to that point of his young but soon-to-be-over career.  Then they tripled down with Biscuits Benjamin at mid-season to make sure they were REALLY big, slow and awkward/clumsy.

Matthews and benjamin didn't work out but Josh was also raw back then, it may not work out just like it didn't then but I don't fault them at all for trying this. Big guys who can win the 50/50 balls, while the smaller guys like Samuel/Shakir can work the middle. Also Holmes was never a starter in either of the seasons he was here and Matthews was only here for the 2017 season before Allen came along and to me was more of a Chase Claypool (hope he can turn it around) signing that they took a shot on with really no risk.

Who on the Bills roster will come out of the shadows and have a huge impact on the coming season??

I don't know the answer, but I know who the Bills need it to be.....Shakir. If he can have a Bernard-like impact on the Offense this year, the Bills O will not miss a beat after the departure of Diggs.

What other players do you think have the potential to make the leap from nobody to somebody this season??

I'm going with WR Justin Shorter, he's 6'4" 221 lbs, ran a faster 40 time than Coleman at 4.55 and has had a full year learning the playbook with a legit opportunity barring that the Bills make no extra moves at WR via trade/free agency. I would think if we're trying to be bullies at WR having a 6'3" plus 6'4" on the outside would be pretty rough to contend with for most corners.

Your opinion of Khalil Shakir is your opinion of the 24 Buffalo Bills offense.  Will Shakir develop into a starting wr and a feature of the passing attack or be a nice role player?  If you think he can be a feature of the offense then your overall expectations for 24 are still high.  If he is just a nice slot guy your hoping for a massive trade.  You feel the offense is subpar and a major concern moving forward.

Shakir had a year of a nice third guy.  39 catches 611 yards.  He was not used the first 6 weeks.  Only received 5 targets and 4 catches.  You take his usage from week 7 to 18 over a full season thats 52 catches for 882.  Doesnt knock your socks off but you can see why he would be looked at a bit differently.

There are alot of targets available 160 from Diggs and 81 from Davis.  They were also highly inefficient players.  Diggs catch % last year was 66 and Davis was 55.  Shakir was at 85.  In general Shakir made the most of his opportunities.  I do not see him getting Diggs work load.  I dont see any weapon getting that.

I think Shakir will be used a tick more than he was down the stretch.  I think he has a chance at being a 1,000 yard receiver and I dont think it is that much of an ask.  If you see Shakir as a possible 80 catch 1,000 yard guy your not hanging your hopes on a big time trade.  Worked with Cook.  Worked with Benard. I think it works with Shakir.

From what i saw didn't Shakir basically take over the role of Davis when Davis went down with an injury?

I think going forward that Keon Coleman will be given every opportunity to be the #1 WR, with Khalil Shakir as the #2 and Curtis Samuel in the slot. That's where i think everyone is most dangerous imo. Unless we bring in Michael Thomas or trade for another WR then i think that will be the plan going forward.

That's for sure relevant. Losing Super Bowls, however, tends to be a setback that carries over into the following season, doesn't it? Not a lot of runners-up are remembered fondly as excellent teams.

What does this have to do with what the OP is stating?

right in the title thread it says "Top 5 QB and Top 5 WR salary cannot coexist on a SB team" 3 out of the 5 teams made it to a SB, 1 of them won it all and the 2 others are vying for a SB. All those teams will have top QB money to go along with top WR money. Josh Allen is the 9th highest paid QB in football so he isn't even top 5, just so you know I'm not trying to argue with you I'm just showing the OP that not only is it possible it's being done multiple times.

two of the three made it with their QB's on rookie deals.  Heck, Hurts still won't take on a serious top 10 let alone top 5 cap hit until 2027.

Bills had a similar rookie QB deal window with Josh Allen and made AFC Championship game and had the 13 second debacle.

That's not what the OP is stating though.

Why wouldn't Hardy (CB pick) be in the running for the returner jobs? Seems like his most immediate value is clearly there. Because he's a rookie? Seems like mentally the easiest onboarding in all of NFL football, being a returner.

Shakir and Samuel both seem like guys who could be all right with the new kickoff structure.

Only the Rams, above, have actually won a SB. So...

3 out of the 5 made it to a SB... So....

Closest I’ve found is Stafford and Kupp.

But the Rams swapped out Goff for Stafford and had plenty in place.

I think the simple answer for those wondering what’s going on in the hunt for WRs like Higgins and Ayiuk are pipe dreams.

You cannot build a SB roster with top WR and top QB money.  You will be depleted in areas that actually matter in winning.

    The trenches.

That’s the fan disconnect.  However, that’s why you’re right to want to get one on a rookie deal and why it’s so vital to hit on them in the draft.

But it appears this is a league wide approach to the cap.  Cousins is gone in Minnesota as they prepare to pay JJ.  Higgins and Aiyuk this is 100 percent the last year on their teams.

Don’t be shocked if this is Goff’s last year in Detroit.

Just looks like the Chiefs were ahead of the curve with Hill and we were 1 year too late with Diggs.  One of Coleman’s years had Diggs dead cap.  I don’t know how they’re are still Diggs apologists left.

The Eagles just signed Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown and #2 WR Davonta Smith who went to a SB

The bengals have signed Joe Burrow and about to sign Jamar Chase next season who have a SB appearnce
The Dolphins are about to sign Tua who have 1 of the highest paid WR

Cleveland Browns Deshaun Watson and Amari Cooper

The rams like you said Stafford/Kupp

    The Lions Goff/St.Brown

These are all playoff teasm vying for a SB, it can be done and why would it be a pipe dream?

What has been sticking out to me in all the number changes and new guys numbers announced...23 is still unassigned to my knowledge. Now maybe it's nothing but coincidence. Or maybe the number is on hold pending an announcement from Micah Hyde at his charity softball game. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I love Micah but the dude looked washed to me. I really hope we just move on with the youngins.

  10. They called him Waste Claypool in Pittsburgh because that's what he is, this is just a camp body in hopes of turning into something but most likely wont make the squad. I would hope this signing wouldn't stop the Bills for going out and adding other WR's. I'd much rather have 4 games of Mike Thomas who actually tries then this dude. I think Smoot was a solid get and will make the team as a situational guy for us.

  11. This might have been stated already somewhere but there are like 40 pages . I just heard that Keon Coleman is the 1st rookie WR to reach out to Andre Reed. That's pretty awesome and smart trying to get as many football minds to help you especially hall of famers is never a bad thing.

You have a QB that's a Maserati. He's built for bombs away. But instead of building your offense for that, you build it for plodding, 10 yards at a time max, 10 minute drive offense. So I ask, what is the point?

What's the point of having a guy who's designed by nature to bomb the football deep and whose weakness is dink and dunk stuck in an offensive scheme that is built to do just that?

Why not offload him for someone who's better suited for that kind of thing if you refuse to play to his strengths? That's what I can't wrap my head around. It makes no sense.

I hear where you're coming from and like others have stated I just don't think that type of play is sustainable especially in NY with the crappy weather. We have a plethora of weapons for Allen of all shapes and sizes but I think it's wise to get it in the playmakers hands and let them do the work. It's also not like we have nobody that will be running deep, if you look at Shakirs stats he had 10 targets of 20+ yards and 2 targets of 40+ yards which is identical to Stefon Diggs https://www.rotowire.com/football/player/khalil-shakir-15892 , it doesn't however tell me how many were caught by each but that's a good sign. Also if you look at Curtis Samuel under Joe Brady as OC in 2019/2020, Samuel had 8 targets of 20+ and 1 target of 40+, 12 of 20+ the following year and 2 of 40+ with nobody nearly as talented as Josh so I think the deep ball will still be there but wont be relied upon as much which isn't a terrible thing.

Josh Allen is suited for all types of throws not just backyard ball which alot of people call it and hopefully it leads to the best season of his career but I het the fact why people are upset and can't fault them for it. I'm hoping this isn't a wasted year like some are predicting, I'm hoping having a bunch of different guys to throw to instead of force feeding it to 1 guy makes the difference but we shall see.

  13. My favorite Bills CB of all time is Antoine Winfield, the guy was a heat seeking missle and was only 5'9", Hardy isn't of the same mold but I like what he shows in the videos and like the 3rd game in shows him playing in snow which is great to see. He should be a solid special teamer and a good backup for Taron Johnson (hopefully).

Not only was that fun to watch, but there was a LOT of Carter hitting Drake Maye and separating him from the ball. I would like to make that a special tradition.   😋

I saw that also, he's already acclimated to destroying the newest member of the Patriots, well played Beane, well played.
