We know Fetterman doesn’t have a medical degree, so there isn’t many translatable skills, whether or not you like it a medical degree does prove someone has a certain amount of intelligence.  We know Fetterman didn’t like showing up to work as Lt. Gov and we know his town he was mayor of is one of the worst places in Pittsburgh during his tenure.

We already seen how Fettermans stroke affected him, you don’t have to be a medical professional to know that, just like any intelligent person does when they see Joe Biden has dementia or do you think Joe is fine because I’m not on his medical team?

And basing a candidate on how they dress is not even close to gender and race discrimination…..are you Billstime Stupid?

Here is the thing Jim, we know you aren’t Billstime stupid, you see our points but want to be a devils advocate and we all see through that

All I ask is people explain their points like you just did.  People just spew ***** here with nothing to back it up.  That's why I ask questions.

He can't express himself and needs things to be written down for him to be able to process them.  I guess you missed the debate, which they held after most of the early voting had occured (care to guess why?).  A team can only do so much for him.  Is that someone you'd want representing California?  Is that someone you'd want having a supposedly important position, or is that indictment of all government officials and we should no longer give a ***** about their qualifications (and in that case, who cares where Oz was from)?

And I'm not a Republican so your "hack" stuff is and always has been silly.  For one, I don't believe in Jesus Christ so that automatically disqualified me.  Even worse, I'm an atheist.  I used to be a Dem but realized years ago the direction they were taking so I became an Independent and support compromise.  I like to needle the Dems on here because it's fun but if you pay attention, you'll see I'm more of a middle-of-the-road type of person.

So he has things written down to process.  Can he process them once written down?  And as far as him representing me in CA?  Sure, why not.  There are two senators that represent "me".  They have very little affect on my life.  I affect my life for me and my family more than the two people who are in Washington ever will.

And you middle of the road?  No I don't think so.  Not even close.

Lock him away?  LOL!  Who said anything about locking him away?  There's a huge difference between "shouldn't even be running for Senate, much less winning" and "lock him away!"

Again I wasn't following politics closely back then and I didn't live in NYS anymore so I didn't need to B word.  I thought it was odd that they would elect Hilly, but I realized it happens and she had name recognition having been first lady.  And again, her opponent wasn't a stroke victim.  Now that I'm more into politics, I'm less B wording than incredulous that they could elect a guy who had a stroke with permanent deficits just because the other guy was from a neighboring (not like he was from several states away) state.  But hey, not my state and the Senate wasn't going to flip anyway.

What do you mean what do I like about Oz?  You've labelled me a right-wing partisan.  What do you think I like about him?

Personally I think it's great that a stroke victim wants to run, did run and won.  You do realize that Senators have a team that they work with.  Can he read? Can he think clearly? What part of his brain was affected by his stroke that will make him not able to perform his duties as a Senator?  Can you answer these definitively or is it 100% conjecture on your part?  And if it's conjecture is it because he's a Democrat?   And you blame the whole state of PA and not one person who lost to an "invalid".

What do I think you like about him?   That's easy.  He's a Republican.  And I never accused you of being a right-wing partisan. I think the term I used was a hack.  :D

  3. 17 minutes ago, Doc said:

Why would I need to be part of his medical team?  Even they admit(ted) he had a stroke that has left him with deficits that they "hope" he can recover from.  But he hasn't and won't given the amount of time that has passed since his stroke.  You're out of your depth here.

And yes it does matter that she won because obviously being a carpetbagger isn't a be-all-end-all.  And her opponent wasn't a stroke victim.

Pennsylvanians are just stupid.  So much so that not only did they elect Fetterman, they also elected a dead guy to the State House.

So instead of being an inspiration for stroke victims around the world we should lock him away?  How severe was his stroke and according to his medical team how will HIS stroke affect his ability to represent PA?

So did you B word about Hillary being a carpetbagger?  I know I did.

Still haven’t heard what you like about Dr Oz.

Good point.  Except for a working brain (even you can see Fetterman has serious mental deficiencies), OZ has nothing on him.

And refresh my memory but...did Hilly still win despite being a "carpetbagger"?

So you are part of his medical team that was aware of total mental abilities?  I didn’t know that. Huh.

Whether Hillary won is not the point. Just pointing out our possible hypocrisy. You probably said something derogatory about her being a carpetbagger but Oz being one is fine.

Now one more time.  Other than “he’s not Fetterman” what qualities did you like about Oz?

    6 hours ago, Commsvet11 said:

Because there was a baseline of intelligence, that candidate at the very least passed medical school. I’ll take that any day over a guy that dressed like a slob that appealed to PA morons.

Tell me more about Fetterman’s level of intelligence.

And now we’re choosing our representatives based on how they dress?  Almost as bad as basing it on their gender and race.

  5. 25 minutes ago, Doc said:

Because...he has a functioning brain.  Who GAF is he's not from Pennsylvania?  Like it's that hard to figure out what those jamokes need?  LOL!

Who gives a ***** he’s not from PA??  Well all those people (I would bet my next 10 paychecks you were one) who called Hillary a carpetbagger?

So you’re on record saying stroke victims can’t do his job?   How severe is his stroke? When did you run diagnostics on him?

And if they’re all “jamokes” couldn’t a stroke victim do the job?  Kind of a contradiction there Doc.

Now other than he’s not a stroke victim what else does Oz have going for him?

The fact that most people don't care tells you what we're dealing with in this country.  It's the same apathy that got Fetterman elected.  But it absolutely needs to be pointed out everytime it happens.  We can't have a dementia patient (continuing to) be President.

No it’s runny ***** candidates that got Fetterman elected. Dr Oz??

I just went through the purchase of insurance in Florida a few months back— my understanding was that you get paid a depreciated amount up front, with mortgage company on if applicable.  If you build back or replace you get the balance.  If not you walk with check in hand.  That’s why I asked Frankish.

I did a little research on this and think I’m correct, but I was just looking for feedback.  Hopefully I never find out and have a call to make on Monday.

As for living in Cali-I admit to thinking “What’s the big deal?” before going there (Los  Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego at various times), and when I got there, I got it.  Cool place.  Nice people. I drove down the the Ventura Highway, in the sunshine, and I felt I could touch the clouds.  I get all that and loved the short time I was there.

One thing I try to do is avoid transferring my thoughts and feelings on others.  I love my children and like being around them, so far they feel the same.  I love my family and my in-laws, I’m very lucky and know that.  In my case, what you outlined that makes it cool for you doesn’t move the needle for me, but I understand it does for you.  I was just answering the question “Why would people move from Cali/Fla back to Buffalo”.  Those were the reasons that came to mind.

Oh I love my family too.  I try to visit at least once a year but usually around August for my mom's birthday.  I'll be there in a couple weeks to ski.  Have not been back in the winter to ski since my dad passed in 2018.  He was a fixture on the slopes at Holiday Valley for probably 60 years.  He was a ski instructor there for 35 years or so.  I told my brother this will be the first time in over 50 years I'll have to pay for my lift ticket.  When I dad taught I got a free season's pass and after he quit teaching he'd get me a lift ticket when I visited.  My brother said "no worries...I have connections."  LOL

    Why indeed ?

Why Are the Democrats Working so Feverishly to Deny Trump the 2024 GOP Nomination,

When They Should Be Praying He Wins It?

    Mike Miller

With multiple polls showing Republican support for a 2024 Trump run collapsing, the former president beleaguered by key midterm losses by candidates he strongly backed, courtroom setbacks, and mindblowing unforced errors — blameable only on Trump — the Democrat Party would be wise to shut the hell up about Trump, sit back, keep their powder dry, and watch Trump’s self-immolation take its course.

This thread is so lame to me…if the Right was smart, they would drop this issue, because most people simply don’t care, and never will…Conservatives are devoting way too much energy to it Imo…

I agree.  The right needs to focus on making themselves more marketable to the American people.  As of now they suck at it.

Again, struggling to keep up here. I assume you’re suggesting something specific to Florida, and that’s not my understanding.  On a partial loss, the estimate would be for damage to the home.  On a total loss, your suggesting implies that if the home was not rebuilt (or replaced with the one in WNY in Frank’s situation), $0 is paid for the structure?

As for why someone would want to move back, I’d suggest several reasons.  They prefer WNY over Cali/Fla.  Attitudes.  People.  Tax. 4 seasons.  Family.

While our plan is to try and spend 6 mos+ in Fla and out of NY (tax and weather related), proximity of family (children, parents and siblings) is the most important thing for us.  If faced with a choice, less warmth, more tax, and more NYS would carry the day.  If on the other hand, we can get our children to make a break…

It's my understanding if the home is a total loss they would pay to rebuild.  Not sure if they would just cut you a check and say "have fun!"

Regarding why someone would want to move back?

         1.  Attitudes?  The attitudes here in the CA desert are pretty laid back.  High concentration of Latinos who are fantastic people and conservatives.

         2. People.  We have people here too.

         3. Taxes.  Yes our income taxes are higher.  For example on an income of $100k the taxes in CA would be about $6,500 vs $5,275.  So about $100 per month more.  However property taxes is where the big difference is.  Take a house assessed at $700k.  In NY (Erie County) the annual taxes would be about $17,000 and here in CA (Riverside County) $10,000.  A difference of $580 a month.  Erie county sales taxes are 8.75% vs 7.75%.  One percent of most everything you purchase over a year really adds up. So CA taxes being high compared to NY is a myth.  I'm not even going to look at a no income state tax like FL has

         4. Season.  Just like people, we have seasons here too.  For instance we are almost to winter. It was 34 degrees when I got up.  In the summer it's usually around 90-100 when I wake up.  We just don't have to deal with the snow.  And damn when that ***** begins to melt and turn dirty? Uuuuuugly.

         5.  Family.  I think my family prefers me 3,000 miles away.  I always joke I would have moved further but the ocean got in the way.

Now if I sold my $700k home here in CA and bought something for $700k in NY I'd get a lot of house.  But again it comes with all the downsides and I don't need a lot of house.

From anything i've heard from those that live there is with the taxes being as high as they are they better be able to show something . I have no idea how people can survive paying what i saw with my own eyes $6.34 a gallon gas sorry but your not that special that they have to increase it that much .

And the homeless out there is a rampant disease it's sure not what it once was . You can bet or i should say it wouldn't surprise me if some of the cash went to some prominent politicians out there in some way shape or form, just saying - because none of them are hurting that's for sure .

You can make anything look good on paper some game plans look great until you implement them and see what the opposition brings to stop or slow you down .

    1.  Our income taxes may be higher but I'll compare our property taxes to NY's (and other states) and I imagine between the two we're lower overall.

    2.  I use my Ralph's (Kroger) rewards card for my gas.  I get $.10 off per gallon for every $100 I spend.  I've gotten as much as $.70 off a gallon. Ralph's just opened a fueling station by our store.  It is $4.19 a gallon and with our rewards we're paying below $3 a gallon.

    3.  Homeless is an issue everywhere.  It's horrible in places like SF and LA.  We just retired to the Palm Springs area and though there are homeless here it's nowhere near as bad as LA.  And with LA ***** with the Covid mandates I refuse to go there anyway.

    4.  CA has wonderful weather and incredible geography.  Where else can you ski in the morning and surf in the afternoon.  I've been here for 40 years and can't think of anyplace I'd rather live.

I’ve read this a couple times and still don’t understand what you’re saying.

Your house is destroyed in S Florida, the damage is $300k and you get paid $120k…how?  The other $180k goes where?  Why wouldn’t the client take the $300k and just move back to Buffalo?

They don't pay you for the damage of your home.  They pay you what it would cost to rebuild.  Often a big difference.  And after living in FL or CA who the ***** would want to move back to Buffalo???

  12. Did we just get scammed by a Nigerian Prince?  Can someone explain why when we have so many issues in this country are we sending $350m to Africa??

    He does.

Kevin Mahan had prior arrests, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a drug arrest, a felony traffic arrest and a robbery arrest. Records show in 2013, Mahan was sentenced to three years in prison after he was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm. In 1998, Mahan was convicted on two counts of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery.

Court records also show that back in December 2021, an officer was used a Taser on Mahan while trying to arrest him. The arrest came after a driver told police that Mahan tried to carjack him and verbally threatened to kill him at a Gate gas station on 103rd Street. Mahan pleaded no contest to resisting arrest and was sentenced to 30 days in jail.

Sounds like a hell of a guy who will not be missed.   For those saying get rid of guns?  This is the type of person who will still hang on to theirs.  I will hang on to mine too seeing I like a fair fight.

So then this is just like those living in Cali with all the wild fires & landslides during heavy rains and such ?

Or if you make a decision to move to Cali & don't take into consideration that the state is run by a bunch of political morons that can't balance their own check book then wonder why their tax structure is unaffordable & through the roof but you still decide to move there ??? Go Figure .

It's kind of like if you (as your own person) makes a decision to live some where that has a much higher rate of incidence when it comes to weather then you need to pay more because that is your personal decision to live there .

Like when you sign up for student loans & say you will pay them back or if you sign a note on a very high priced truck or if YOU as your own person decide to live at the base of a volcano then in your decision making YOU should take all that into consideration .

There is a old saying i have learned since i moved to the south "If your gonna be dumb you gotta be tough" so suck it up buttercup !!

If you don't like it MOVE !!! You are free to do so .

B word all you want about CA politics.  There is plenty to B word about trust me however not balancing the checkbook ain't one of them.  We had a surplus this past fiscal year.  I have no idea what they did with it but at least there was a surplus.
