The troll and conspiracy posters are a visible symptom. PPP has bred far worse than that.

An interesting summary of how a few countries approached the pandemic. Common thread of United leadership and national approaches. https://www.gatesfoundation.org/TheOptimist/Articles/world-bank-covid19-policy-economics/?utm_source=GF&utm_medium=FB&sf128215489=1&fbclid=IwAR1XKbmP99JqobjaCLmhh9rjc27ommkgfjTHolzj-7SiQJtsKn5dYXSC7MI Gates Foundation has had good perspectives throughout this.

Closest we got was McCain choosing Lieberman but he impulsively selected Palin (and her high point was that first amazing press conference...off a cliff after that). Probably wouldn’t have won anyways but the Palin choice killed his chances with thoughtful moderates and independents. -
With the exception of this thread and the Covid one, that's what I've done for quite a while. But ignoring the sewer backing up in your basement doesn't mean the TBD house doesn't smell. The powers-that-be can do whatever they want but PPP is a dark and seedy place...and that's only the things I know about. You'll note that I didn't start this thread. Deranged Rhino invited a discussion about the merits of PPP.

(My view: We should have been closed for a maximum of two weeks, if that, and only in the hardest hit areas (NYC, some other northeast cities). At this point, the only people that should be taking lots of precautions are those at high risk. The rest of us should be at work, school, and restaurants.) Maybe you're "thinking" of someone else as you name call and minimize the deaths from a world pandemic. You seem like a good example of the great benefits and community building that people can see at TBD when they visit the PPP side!

Long term effects is not a reason not to get on with living but there's a growing rise of observational evidence about this, and of course, we have yet to put "long term" between us and this virus yet. Smart distancing remains sensible. -
It's a big site. Pretty sure TSW would survive if PPP went away--nice bit of self importance there though, Jesus! It would just make the place more collegial and you all can go join a private board somewhere and continue the negativity-fest.

Harris doesn’t trust the rushed vaccines any more than a bunch of you, apparently. https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/05/politics/kamala-harris-not-trust-trump-vaccine-cnntv/index.html -
I’m in the Covid topics because they are more active here. Why are they so active here? Because some of you are afraid of Hapless on the OT board. We agree. Lots of other outlets so this board is not necessary. Cheers on that. The troll account gets the chicken dinner reserved for the winner.
-
Plenty of other one-sided outlets out there. TSW doesn’t need it and it’s got a dark history as a seedy underbelly of an otherwise good site. And putting the biggest board bully and content bomber in charge of moderation is an absurd idea.

I don't care what the Press Corpsepeople say. And is the White House Press Secretary is now somehow not a spokesperson for the President of the United States? Seems like there's only one more direct conduit from POTUS to the people. So yes, what she does matters. You've forgotten or don't know what leadership looks like. But trolling, you're getting a great view of that. -

Trolling is not leading. I'd like to believe most Americans want their president above this kind of thing. -

I never disputed the 45 cycles. I disputed that there's no evidence it changed on 7/13. I still don't see that there was a change. Again if true that they changed it mid stream, it's a significant change (assuming labs followed the recommendation on cycles) worth being picked up on by either side of the media you like. -

The point to be made from that NYT story is that perhaps the test is too sensitive —to be the only test— but we shouldn’t stop using the PCR. We need more tests, especially the rapid ones. Give me an 95% accurate rapid test In quantity and we can go to football games. Don’t need to PCR everyone. -

I’ve seen those articles and find them compelling, but they don’t talk about the CDC raising the standards in mid June like you said. It’s not a big deal. I just hadn’t heard about that and it seems like it didn’t happen. -

Great article. Sweden did what we all should have done. Get ready, then get on with it. Though Sweden has a totally different culture than us and our death toll would no doubt have been higher if we just stayed open the entire time, which I am willing to accept because I'm heartless...guess that's because I'm an MSM lemming according to you lot. -

https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-trump-sowed-covid-supply-chaos-try-getting-it-yourselves-11598893051?mod=hp_lead_pos5 How Trump Sowed Covid Supply Chaos. ‘Try Getting It Yourselves.’ Sergio Melgar, the chief financial officer for the largest health-care system in central Massachusetts, was about to run out of medical-grade N95 masks. A Chinese company poised to replenish the supply wanted the money upfront. It was after midnight on March 20, too late to arrange a wire transfer. So Mr. Melgar took out his own credit card and authorized a $100,000 charge. “If I don’t do this,” he recalls thinking, “we will run out.” Days earlier, as the spread of the coronavirus pandemic was becoming clear in the U.S., stoking panic about shortages of medical supplies, the Trump administration signaled to states they shouldn’t expect the federal government to meet their medical-supply needs. In a March 16 conference call, President Trump told governors that the federal government would try to help, but that for “respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment—try getting it yourselves.” ... Instead, the federal government’s approach turned hospital systems and state governments into rivals. Medical providers begged and scavenged for supplies. One doctor, worried his shipment of masks and gowns would be seized by another state, divided the supplies between two trucks to make sure at least some would get through. Some states turned against each other. One refused to give another contact information for lab supplies, fearful of being outbid. Governors kept shipment details secret. Other governors dispatched state police to airports to guard their cargo. Interviews with Trump administration and state officials and hospital executives, as well as internal documents and emails reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, show that the White House’s shifting of responsibility to the states came gradually, influenced in part by its late recognition of the supply threat and its slowness in mobilizing the federal government to coordinate a response. Early on, some states and a small number of Trump officials were pushing for the federal government to centralize the supply chain, but the idea was never seriously considered inside the White House, officials said.
