  1.

    Thanks for understanding.

No sweat and I understand people defending the boards and op, but I am not a click bait guy. Go Bills!!!

Just subscribed to your premium content. You always post good stuff and it's only $1 a month. Keep up the good work.

Incredibly appreciative!!!! I hope you enjoy the new ways that I am challenging myself to create content that separates us from big sites.

  2.

He did cover that play, and we did discuss how he actually led Matthews, but you go into more depth about it.

That's beside the point. Your content is top notch. I'm sorry people sometimes attack you for posting it around here.

My apologies, that's what I meant. Sorry, I fail at multitasking at times lololoolo

Well, my apologies, then. There have been others in the past who've come here with the sole purpose of shoving their sites down everyone's throat.

You and your staff clearly put a lot of work into what you do. My only point was that the OP did, too, and I'd hate to see him stop; I enjoy his analyses every week.

Anyway, I apologize if my thoughts on your intentions were incorrect. You and your staff do a great job and I look forward to seeing your, as well as Bocephuz's, analysis in the future.

    Go Bills.

No worries brother. I don't come here to hi jack threads or troll or whatever. The only reason I come here is to bring different angles and knowledge to our fans. To pass on the little football knowledge I know to others that are willing to listen. I'm not in this for clicks.

  3.

I get that you want people to go to your site.

But I think it's in poor taste to hijack a thread by an OP who put obvious hours into an excellent analysis.

You've posted your link in about 50 different threads.

Excuse me if you think I'm being a jerk, but I just don't think it's right.

Post one thread with your link and trust that people will see it.

I tried and was told to put it here by a moderator....Does this video not add to the conversation? 50 huh smh

Basically Mills had a good game in pass pro and a bad game in run blocking.

Very true, he and the TEs on runs to their side struggled to get any type of movement.

  4.

I'd appreciate it just the same. it's work and time well spent by cover 1 and his crew. as for quality opponent, they're all pros and some, just have the bills have been, not quite the elite level. so it will be interesting to see them go up against the elite teams when the time comes and hopefully they're up to the challenge, that's all I can ask for.

Exactly, regardless of opponent, he went through his progression and put it where it needed to be. I appreciate that.

  5. you are clearly suggesting Taylor might be progressing with the Cranium Game?

    Sunday should be fun !

I don't think the offense was lack of progressions, was all on TT the last couple years. Lynn did a good job of establishing a foundation but I do expect TT to be TT. I am comfortable and undertand with who he is. No need to raise hell when he does what he does from time to time. This offense will maximize his abilities and if he can execute several of these a game, we will be just fine. :)

  6. In order to distribute to the weapons in a West Coast offense, the quarterback must be able to decipher coverages and pinpoint their weaknesses. On the following play Taylor does a great job of deciphering the coverage, coming off his first two reads in his progression, then delivering a pass to an area that would maximize his WR’s yards after the catch.

Sit back and watch it unfold.

  7. There were many questions going into this season in regards to Taylor and his ability to deliver passes in a west coast offense. Many feared that he would struggle to deliver timing passes in windows to maximize YAC. There were several times in the Jets game that he showed that he could do it. Can he do it consistently? We shall see, but you gotta give credit where credit is due. On the 47-yard pass to Matthews, If he doesn't decipher the coverage, work through his progressions and deliver this pass where he did, there is NO YAC. Check out the video breakdown.

  9. It was nice to see the coaches trust TT with his back to the defense on those play-action passes and that answered some of my off-season concerns given TT's lack of experience with that kind of play design. The more comfortable he gets with that, the more we will feast on defenses that have to respect McCoy. Need a running game for play-action to be effective and we certainly have that.

My only quibble here is with the Clay play. Agree a thousand percent that he needs to make a play to help his QB there and you are right not to let him off the hook on that play. But I don't think the pass was "accurate" even though Clay should have made the play. TT struggles with ball placement and until I see more consistency in that regard, I just can't call him an accurate passer. Ball placement is the barometer of accuracy in my book, not just completion percentage. It may seem like a nit-pick, especially on a completed pass, but better ball placement often leads to bigger plays than just a completion.

Thanks again for taking the time to analyze and post your findings. Cover-1 is perhaps the finest vehicle of it's kind for imparting this kind of insight and it's greatly appreciated. And I know for a fact it is respected by a couple of long time league scouts. Thanks again.

All fair points, I think it's fair to say were are splitting hairs in both directions. Really not that far off :)

  10. Thank you cover1! Man, your breakdowns are thorough, informative, and as BringBackFergy said, you explain things in layman's terms so everyone can comprehend.

I appreciate your hard work, and please keep the good stuff coming!

I appreciate the kind words, and I apologize I can not post and discuss as often as I would like. But if you want more content, please subscribe http://www.cover1.net/cover-1-newsletter/

Overall I agree with the conclusion that TT did a lot of good things last Sunday.

That being said..I don't think he was looking for Clay first read on that INT. I think he was genuinely looking for Zay Jones on the Flag route first and when that wasn't there he went back to Clay late.

There was no need for him to hold off the safety near Jones by looking left on that play as the Safety was 15 yards away. He could have thrown it to Clay over the middle immediately when he made his break and Clay would have been wide open with no safety in front of him.

I think an experienced QB sees that a LB is on Clay and knows that is the matchup to look for. Hopefully TT will get there.

It is a high low concept and I think he noticed the S/CB combo coverage. Tried holding the S w his eyes, as QBs are taught but sliding left threw the play off.

  11. Good stuff. Watched that first clay play a few times. I think Taylor slid left too many times. If he stays put after the first slide, then he most likely has a better view and unloads it quicker.

No doubt, that definitely contributed to holding Adams in place. Initially TT a good job using his eyes against Adams, bc Adams had bracket coverage on Zay. But sliding keyed Adams to come off his assignment.

  12. I'll keep this short, Taylor showed huge improvements in his game and it was evident from the first series. Specifically in the pocket.

His footwork, poise and speed scanning the field looks to have improved drastically. A huge drop by Clay turned 7 into 0 and some very smart throwaways decreased his completion percentage but we totally dominated and controlled this game. He converted some big 3rd downs, and used his legs very effectively.

Make no mistake, this offense runs through Shady but I think we are witnessing the evolution of Tyrod Taylor. I really felt Dennison held back big time in the 4th and just sat on the lead, up 2 scores, dominant defensive performance, that's fine but I'm really excited to see Taylor grow in this scheme and get comfortable with the WR corps.

This was a true team win, well , maybe minus ST, but for the first time in quite some time the O and D both showed up, 400+ yards on O , just over 200 allowed. Taylor's stats weren't eye popping but he did what needed to be done and looked vastly improved in the pocket. I'm really excited to see us match up with Carolina, I don't see any reason we can't have the same outcome.

    Tyrod 2.0 is here

Love your points, but I am still in a wait and see approach. But I do think he should get a bulk of the season.

  13. Wow, that is quite the spread. I hope that they are wrong. Vegas pretty much nailed last weeks spread lol.

So to add to this thread, Dan from SB Nation's Buffalo Rumblings did a Panthers scouting report. Tell me what you think.

Even our pessimists think that's a bit too much?

I tend to agree and I hope Vegas is wrong this week lol

  14. I know that this forum loves discussing Tyrod Taylor so I thought that you would enjoy this breakdown. Personally, I thought Tyrod had an solid day. He showed us a few things that we really haven't seen consistently, but he also had a couple throws that were inaccurate. All in all I thought he was alright. You?

  15. I think I speak for most of us when I say that we are pretty surprised that Dawkins hasn't beaten out Jordan Mills. I dont think it will be long, if there is one thing that this staff has made clear, competition will always be present. So if Dawkins continues to improve he will crack the lineup. But here is a breakdown of his preseason.

  16. He completed 61.1% of his passes at Pitt.

Not in 2016 it was sub 60%, barely but doesn't really change anything especially considering the offense he played in. Here is adjusted completion % https://imgur.com/a/CwxUO

Without context a raw completion percentage is a pretty worthless metric. Just in the amount of screen passes and dump offs a quarterback throws. Or ones that don't go downfield.

Here is his passing chart from 16 https://imgur.com/a/grT6e

Here is a pre draft breakdown from Mark Schofield...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhYvpyVgKHw

  17.

....at this particular juncture with a rookie having played in a couple of pre-season games, that was NEVER the comparison......the discussion was focused on arm strength paranoia or lack thereof....nor was there ANY inference regarding his accuracy versus two top ten GOAT'S.....no need to fire your cannon arm at me......

I think youre forgetting his college career, how his OC consistently hid his arm strength with boundary throws AND not to mention his sub 60% completion percentage. Accuracy (Montana and Brady comparison) usually doesn't improve in the NFL...Cannon? I'm no Jeff George brother! lol
