😂  Come on.   Do you really believe Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen don't become superstar quarterbacks if not for their particular coaches and organizations?

Who's the one being ludicrous and crazy?

I don't follow Mahomes closely enough, but Brady and Allen are/were both almost maniacal in their pursuit of greatness.  Josh is far more pleasant about it than Brady, but his teammates always caution how Josh is hyper-competitive.  If they had landed in a NY Jets situation, it would have slowed their career ascension but they would have either forced their way out or figured it out eventually.

I do believe bad coaching/organizations can break some quarterbacks, but not guys like these.  Just hold them back a bit.  Passion, vision, and leadership of the QB have to be factored in with their on-field skills.  Baker Mayfield is a great example of this.  The way the Browns chewed and spit him out would have broken less self-motivated QB's.  But he recovered nicely, even if he was never and will never (IMO) be in the top echelon of talented QBs.

Mahomes showed a great attention to mastering details of the game in college and made really intelligent decisions on the fly, even though TT was known for its system QB's.  I put a lot of faith in that, so felt strongly he would make it at the NFL level.  Reid is a best case scenario for that but hardly the only one.  Buffalo, for example, would have done great with Mahomes.

Not every QB is as self-motivated at the highest level as these guys, so to your (and the article's) point, it's crazy and ludicrous that organizations don't put together the plan, structure and flexibility to help these less self-motivated guys gain their confidence and ultimately succeed.

How I’d look at it is that teams can utterly destroy QBs, even top tier talents. Yes the makeup and personal qualities have allowed those like Brady, Mahomes, and Allen to become Supermen. But I don’t think that is inevitable; you can break a QB either through killing their motivation or steering them the wrong way. If they go too far learning wrong then their odds of success dwindles significantly.

Josh Allen on the Jets likely flashes greatness for three years while struggling to find a groove and then is jettisoned as a backup candidate elsewhere. His inner- drive might save his career but he likely never reaches the Allen we know. Once he’s out of the Jets he won’t have the advantages of a young QB getting ample opportunity to learn and make mistakes because he’ll just be a backup “Hail Mary” idea. He’d likely become what Sam Darnold is; a reformed starter who could have been great but ends up falling short. Allen/Mahomes/Brady can work tirelessly but if the team doesn’t give them proper support it won’t matter.

That's a whole discussion by itself. If Harbaugh was going for it, what do you think the best play they have to convert it? I bet both the Ravens and the Bills know it will be on the ground. I know Jackson hobbled a bit on the Oliver hit right before the play. But even it does not bother him, you can bet the Bills will stack up to the front, blitz with run awareness, double Flowers, one-on-one with everyone else. It is less than 50-50 chance to convert at that time if Harbaugh was not comfortable with putting the ball in the air. And the consequence of a failed conversion is high chance of loss: inside 2 minutes, one first down to running out of the clock and a field goal.

Conversely, if the Bills were in Ravens position, going for it would be the right play, just like Andy Reid would do for the Chiefs. You have reliable target for short area quickness targets, capable running back going to the edge, and a mobile QB.

Between Henry, Flowers and Lamar you go for that 4th & 3 no matter what there.

Allen has carved your defense up mercilessly in the 4th quarter and only needs a FG to win.

You tell Lamar to man up or put in the backup and run Henry at the Bills defense. If you fail, the Bills are unlikely to play highly aggressive since they are already in FG range and Baltimore has 3 TOs.

Effectively in the end Harbaugh had less confidence in his QB than McD had in his.

  3. Barring some sort of serious collapse by Green Bay or Jones actually drafting great players twice he’ll be the loser in this trade without a doubt.

Micah got an absurd contract for sure but he’s also one of the Top 3 pass rushers in the NFL and much younger than the other two. You don’t screw the pooch refusing to negotiate with an agent then trade him for 2 18+ overall 1sts and an ok NT. They literally have no pass rushers now.

If we could have somehow turned Epenesa, and 2 1sts into Parsons at 40mil I’d be ecstatic.

Now Sal is saying he is going to be on the practice squad:

    That makes more sense.

This is a far better outcome and is perfectly fine. Bills let him explore avenues and are going to bring him back as a sub as needed.

    1-800-Rasul?

Id probably try Gilmour first since I think Rasul’s knee is completely shot. Great guy and mentor; was a solid player but his style of ply relies on his ability to jump routes at will and we saw last year he just can’t anymore. His brain is there but his body can’t quite follow.

  6. A #1 receiver who was a Top 5 receiver while here and is still a solid receiver elsewhere. His biggest problem is with his ego and how it effectively killed his career with the Bills.

Diggs wanted to say he created Allen when he was more akin to a “mentor” and fellow beneficiary for Allen. Allen blew up in part due to his talents added to Cole Beasley’s consistency. Allen then lifted all boats from there as he gained confidence in himself and his teammates being capable of great things. But unlike Allen, Diggs didn’t see it as a symbiotic relationship but as a crutch that would collapse without him. You even see him sort of realize that he was wrong after his injury and watching Allen again and his MVP campaign.

  7. I’d rather try Shavers first before returning to Davis. Davis plays well in the 3/4slot WR with a very straightforward route set. I’d fear the OC would go back to what he was doing his last year here which was a mess with route options which Allen and Davis never guessed the same thing. Plus we know what Davis is with his catching issues already and the fewer butterfingered receivers the better.

  8. Cook just isn't worth most of the number bantered around.

13mil+ and you've lost me; play your last year and go chase a bag next season as a UFA.

Want to work with some bonus structures and void years to get a 3 for 35mil with a 15mil signing bonus; go ahead.

As long as we have Josh Allen we have a shot, and if we don't, Cook isn't anywhere near the level to compensate for that.

New PSL's?  Higher ticket costs?  New advertising and sponsorship deals?

I don't know all the intricate details on how it works but you can't tell me they are looking to build a new stadium out of necessity

I have no doubt there is some financial motivation behind it

    Yes and No

Obviously there is a greed element that is not only from ownership but from the league itself in a large way.

However the present stadium is definitely showing some signs of age in its structural design. The upper levels are not only not connected in any manner while needing continuous reinforcement for safety concerns. There are a serious lack of elevators which isn't something you can remedy easily. And the lower bowl has stairs that could kill a man with how extremely high they are in some places. Lastly, there are no employee-only routes for quick and efficient stadium crossing for medical emergencies or other potential situations.

The present stadium footprint was not conducive to many of these issues in terms of a retrofit. You couldn't widen the concession area because it was at least 20ft underground and would need to be borderline torn down just to rebuild. Connecting the Upper Decks wasn't feasible from the Club end and on the scoreboard side would of required a massive construction effort . (Every game at least 10 groups/individuals as employees how to get to the 300 level seats only to be on the wrong side, I've worked a few games and know a couple others who have done the same.) Lastly the NFL isn't exactly fond of retrofits; not a big enough of a profitable escapade.

  10. It depends on the money, if he’s near vet minimum with some incentives, sure. Rasul as a depth CB would be a coup for this team’s defense. He’s not a true starter at this point but he’s far better than trying to run a random young guy out there if we have multiple DB injuries.

That being said I’d wait until post-draft. I’d rather bring back him than reach on a pair of CBs for its own sake. I don’t want to pass on a top tier prospect at DL because we lack depth outside
