Is drafting Diggs replacement a priority in this draft?
Nihilarian replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think so! -
IMO Burrow HAD three top WRs and the Bills HAD one in Diggs. The Bungals aren't as good as they lost most of that WR corps this off-season. Although they kept the best one. They also just lost their OC and who knows what to expect from their offense now. Buffalo, OTOH, is rebuilding their receiver corps and if they had a top one or two WR in last year's playoff round vs KC they could have won that game. Looking at Digg's numbers from the last two years ending playoff games it's like he went invisible. Buffalo needs a new one, two, and three WRs. Let's see if Shakir can fill one of those and newly added Curtis Samuel can fill another. I don't know what's up with Diggs, injury, or old age but he wasn't the same guy we all saw in 2020. Yes, he put up some decent numbers but seemed to fall off at the end of the last two seasons. Allen needs players who can step up in the playoffs and not fall on their faces.

Let me ask something...who in thee hell in the entire league has been able to cover Travis Kelce or Tyrrek Hill in the last 5 seasons?? We rushed four and couldn't get there...dropped everyone else into coverage which was futile AND they got a bunch of YaC. Just one of those things...like the Hail Murry TD bomb...shi..stuff happens! Let...it...go!

Guys, get over it! It was a great game! I blame the guy who called the defense in Frazier who was old school with his "bend but don't break" schemes. He didn't want to see a big play and instead died by a few slashes. Frazier was schooled by Reid. Buffalo had the #1 overall defense that season too.

Thanks. From a few posts above. It hasn't been 7 seasons, it's been since 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023. And injuries on the defensive side have derailed the team the last two years. Also, in 2020 the Buffalo Bills went to the AFC Conference Championship at Kansas City. On another note, take a long hard look at the Green Bay Packers from 2008 to 2022 with the 4x time League MVP at QB in Aaron Rodgers. In his 17 seasons in GB, they went to only ONE SB in all that time and won it. They had 4 seasons where they didn't even make the playoffs. 2 WC losses, and 4 division losses. Josh Allen isn't going anywhere anytime soon as he loves the city of Buffalo, Buffalo fans, and the Buffalo Bills. My take is Beane and McD in being first times in their respective jobs might have figured out that while veteran free agent players might come into the team and perform well. They also might be more injury-prone due to being older. I do believe this FO is heading the team to a youth movement to cut down on injuries later on in the season. Just a thought. -

Some of you make it sound like the Buffalo Bills have been great for the last ten years. Like the Chiefs were since 2013 when Reid was hired. It took 7 years for Andy Reid to get to an SB with the Chiefs. The Buffalo Bills need to take a long hard look at the Chiefs and why they don't get the injuries like Buffalo has suffered. A healthy Buffalo Bills defense the last two seasons and my take is that they get to the big dance. That 13-second debacle in 2020...a 94%-97% chance they win that game before the kickoff and Leslie Frazier calls for a "prevent defense"... Where is he now? Chiefs, 2013 lost WC w Alex Smith at QB 2014, no Playoffs 9-7 " '' 2015 lost div 11-5 " '' 2016 lost div 12-4 w Alex Smith at QB 2017 lost WC 10-6 w Alex Smith at QB. (should they have fired Andy Ried at this point? ) 2018 12-4 lost conf champ with Mahomes at QB 2019 12-4 won SB with Mahomes 2020 14-2 lost SB 2021 12-5 lost conf 2022 14-3 won SB 2023 11-6 won SB That Buffalo offense didn't get good until that 2020 season. They were 23rd in points for, and 24th in yards in 2019 offensively. BTW, In case some don't know. McD is a disciple of Andy Reid as he worked for him. He, like Reid, believes in a power-throwing first offense like Andy Reid. It's why he fired Rick Dennison and hired Brian Daboll. When the offense was falling on its face at the start of so many games in 2023, McD replaced OC Ken Dorsey with OC Joe Brady. To go from 6-6 to 11-6! -

What so many Buffalo Bills fans simply don't get is... that the Chiefs have been the best team in the NFL for the last five years and Buffalo is the second winningest NFL team right behind the Chiefs. Defensive injuries have screwed this franchise the last two years "Von Miller signed a six-year, $120 million contract with the Bills. $45 million is fully guaranteed at signing with $51.435 million guaranteed in total. Miller received an $18.25 million signing bonus according to PFT. His 2022 and 2023 salaries are fully guaranteed as is a $13 million roster bonus in 2023. $10.71 million of his 2024 salary is fully guaranteed with the balance being guaranteed in March of 2024. There are annual per-game bonuses in the contract. Miller accepted a pay cut in 2024 reducing his salary from $17.5 million to $8.885 million per ESPN's Field Yates. We have updated his contract figures for 2024 based on a handful of reports about the pay reduction and will update further when we receive more information on the contract." This one injury killed the Buffalo pass rush in both 2022 and 2023. Then in 2023, you had all pro, pro bowler starting LBer Matt Milano and CB Tre White both go out with season-ending injuries! The Buffalo defense still managed to finish in the top 5 this past year. Despite half the defense on crutches for that KC playoff game. This sucks...but it happened and it's not the HC nor GM's fault for all these injuries. If anything both should be lauded for different reasons. Beane in trading for DB Rasul Douglas for a 3rd round pick who stepped in and played CB at a top level. Guess what, he was badly knicked up for that KC playoff game and still went out and played. McD setting a great game plan with half a crew and still only losing that Chiefs game by a FG. Buffalo Bills fans are sometimes like little children. They want what they want when they want it and don't care why it didn't happen. Get a grip as 30 other teams wish that they were as good as the Buffalo Bills these last five years. Particularly, Miami, the NY Jets, and the NE Patriots. It is an exciting time to be a Buffalo Bills fan. Make no mistake as the KC Chiefs mostly won this past year with the #2 overall defense that didn't suffer crucial injuries at the end of the season...and I hate them for it! -

Belichick wanted Brady gone...so after 2019, he was. They drafted Jones in 2021 after realizing that Cam Newton, Jarrett Stidham, and Brian Hoyer weren't gonna get it done 7-9 that season. Like I said, I had my doubts that Buffalo could get past the Patriots, and when they did 47-17 in that playoff game IN New England with Mac Jones at QB. I then realized that Belichick was no longer the defensive genius he once was and was no longer a threat for the division title. Things change... and who knows how long Andy Reid and the Chiefs will be that SB-winning team as nothing lasts forever. That division now has two real threats at HC in Jim Harbaugh and Sean Payton. Buffalo has beaten the Chiefs in KC more than any other team and now needs to have a defense that stays healthy all season. Have some faith man! Buffalo has a very, very good HC that has had his team screwed by defensive injuries the last two seasons. Von Miller getting hurt really killed the team's pass rush at the end of the last two years. A youth movement was needed. -

In that Denver game, the 13th guy was Leonard Floyd ...and McD stated that they practiced that over and over. It shouldn't have happened. To the Bolded, I thought the same thing about getting past the Patriots...till that perfect game by Josh and the 47-17 win. The ONLY NFL team that has beaten the Chiefs a few times in the last few years at KC has been Buffalo. I have faith that this coaching staff will get it done. -

Well said. Bills fans seem to forget that the Bills, Chiefs playoff game was lost by a missed FG. The fact that the Buffalo injury-riddled defense kept them in that game. It was amazing to me that despite so many Bills players limping around the game was so close. What bothers me a bit is that the starting Buffalo defensive line did very little to disrupt the Chiefs QB all game. Perhaps that's why many of those guys are now on different teams. -

You Bills fans that want Bill Belichick...really? The guy who just ruined his last QB by hiring an ex-DC to be his OC? Whatever magic Ole Bill had lost when Tom Brady left NE. Bill told the Patriots owner that Tom Brady was no longer any good as a QB so he got rid of him for Mac Jones. Oh Yeah, didn't Brady win another Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Bucs? Didn't the Patriots just fire Ole Bill for a 4-13 season...and you want to hire him for Buffalo? Shows me what the haters know about pro football. Get a grip on reality! The second-most-winning NFL coach over the last five years is NOT mediocre! Another reality is that the current Buffalo Bills owner isn't changing his HC anytime soon... no matter how much fans cry and whine. -

I realize you hate the guy because he hasn't lived up to your expectations and yet being the second-most winningest NFL HC in the last five years isn't good enough for you. Defensive injuries? The ONLY HC better has been Andy Reid over the last five years who has never made a mistake in his life. Sucks to be you! -

My point was that many of those superstar elite QBs eventually went to an SB and won only ONE SB. My point is that Aaron Rodgers an 11-time pro bowler, all pro-NFL league 4 times MVP played 18 seasons and only one SB. Oh Wait, he is still playing. Brett Favre played 16 seasons with many accolades while only winning ONE SB. IT...IS...A...TEAM...SPORT! Andrew Luck was a generational talent and the best record he ever saw in his 7-year career was 11-5. Never sniffed an SB. Bill Cowher? He was stuck with super scrubs at QB and still made the SB, didn't win one until he drafted Big Ben...and even then he needed the Bus to help him. It is challenging to even get to an SB much less win one. Just ask Jim Kelly and Co, et al. Buffalo was very talented, and very lucky in the early 90's with that hurry-up offense and Bruce Smith, Biscuit rushing the passer. They had flaws, which is why they lost all four tho. You need to understand that the very best team in the NFL and the very best HC has been in the Buffalo Bill's way these last four seasons. The ONLY team that has won more games in the entire NFL in the last 5 years than the Buffalo Bills has been the Kansas City Chiefs. 83-63 vs 82-58 https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/most-total-nfl-wins-last-5-years Sean McDermott is not a scrub HC and in fact, has been one of the very best over the last 5 years. The only HC better has been the offensive genius Andy Reid. Besides, it's not the HC's fault with so many defensive injuries these last few years. Losing the star defensive players like all-pro Matt Milano and Tre White and the team still finished #2 overall defensively in 2022! #6 in points allowed, #4 in yards allowed in 2023, yeah that's right, top 5 last season with McD calling the plays. What lost that Buffalo, Chiefs playoff game in Buffalo was a missed FG...despite half the defense on crutches that game. The starting 3rd string LBer who they got off the street two weeks previous was forced to leave the game due to injuries... and because they had nobody else to play...he went back in. -

Bills fans who dislike the current HC because he hasn't won an SB need to get a grip on reality. So many teams have had elite great QBs and don't always get to the big dance. Jim Kelly got there 4 times and didn't win one. Dan Marino got there once and never got back because Buffalo was in his way. How many did Drew Brees win, Aaron Rodgers win, and Brett Favre win? McNabb, Fouts, Matt Ryan, Phillip Rivers, and Warren Moon never won one either. It is a "team" game and it takes a good offense, good defense, and a healthy team along with some good luck to even get to an SB. Andrew Luck was a generational QB and the best record he ever got his team to was 11-5. This franchise has taken a huge leap from what it was under the last owner and the last Buffalo HC in Rex Ryan. Think of all those bums of head coaches we Bills fans had to endure since 2000! This HC got to the playoffs with Tyrod Tylor at QB! What sucks isn't the current Buffalo HC or FO, what does suck is the Kansas City Chiefs and their HC Andy Reid in the Buffalo Bills way. Otherwise, Buffalo might have been in the SB already. That and the team being plagued by defensive injuries. Exactly how many players have had an actual heart attack on the field during a game and not only survived but returned to the team? The DC that was responsible for the 13 seconds is gone and that was the year Buffalo should have gone. All I can say is ...keep enjoying this QB, this HC, this GM, and what the future brings as all want to win a Super Bowl just as much as any of us. -
Anyone else feeling pretty good with the Bills?
Nihilarian replied to SoonerBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Last year the Bills lost to the NY Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Kansas City Chiefs. 11-6 This off-season they lost their starting safety combo which had been a staple with the team for the last seven seasons. Poyer and Hyde. They also lost their starting Center Mitch Morse who had been with the team since 2019 and helped stabilize that offensive line. Now, I understand why the team did what they did but unless they find a better replacement for Poyer and Morse I think the team will have some dramatic troubles. Home: Jacksonville*, Tennessee, Arizona, San Francisco*, Kansas*, Jets, Patriots, Dolphins*. Away: Houston*, Indianapolis*, Los Angeles*, Seattle*, Baltimore*, Detroit*, Jets, Patriots, Dolphins*. * denotes playoff team in 2023. four home, 7 away, and on the road. Tough schedule IMO. The Patriots could be a better team as will the Jets with a healthy Rodgers...and that defense. The one position that concerns me the most is the Center position where that player calls the line plays and could be the weakest link if not a top player. -
I have no doubt that the start of the season might be a tad difficult until all the new players gain some footing. However, the only position that deeply concerns me is the center position. To me, that is the second most important position on the team because a lousy center can allow quick penetration to the QB. Simply can't have that on a good team. This team can't go into a season with "maybes" at center.

Deja Vu all over again - Offseason Jets talk
Nihilarian replied to krf139's topic in The Stadium Wall
"IF" Arron Rodgers isn't done... they might actually have a good season. Tough to believe that an older QB coming off a bad leg injury will have a great season. But, they can run the ball well and play good defense...we will see. -
Does Josh Allen still work as hard in the offseason?
Nihilarian replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
A man's work is never done! -
My biggest concern is at the second most important position on the team, which is having a top elite center. The draft looks like the only source available now. Finding a stud center in the first two rounds is what I'd like to see and even then, there is no certainty that they will find another Creed Humphry, which I'd like to see happen. Someone who knows how to call and set the offensive line protections. Someone good enough to help the two guards do their jobs, help with the run game up the middle, and most importantly...keep Josh Allen upright while not getting hit.

Our starting Center isn’t on the roster yet
Nihilarian replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree! However, what I disagree with is that Justin Jefferson isn't going to make a huge difference if the QB can't get him the ball. it's going to be a sad day for Buffalo fans when they realize that they could have the best WR corps in the NFL along with the best RB room and it will mean little if the QB doesn't have time to throw or the RBs have no holes to run through up the middle. The quickest way to get to the QB is right down the middle where the best DTs roam. When that front three for Buffalo can't hold their blocks... the entire interior will collapse. Sack, pressure, miss throw, interception. Think of that Chris Jones nudge on Josh Allen that caused a missed throw in the last playoff game. The Buffalo Bills have had a good center in Mitch Morse for the last 5 seasons, he got to the Bills in 2019 and was with the KC Chiefs for his first 4 seasons. If Bills fans recall those late 80's early 90's Bills had a great and under-rated center in Kent Hull who was an all-pro, pro bowler. The man should be in the HoF in my view. Anyway, I'm hoping that Brandon Beane has an ace up his sleeve to replace Morse with an elite player, perhaps from the draft. I wouldn't mind Buffalo spending a first-round pick for this position. Just my 2 cents. -
Our starting Center isn’t on the roster yet
Nihilarian replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Man, do I agree with this! The loss of Mitch Morse was huge as he was the protection caller for the line and an integral part of why that rookie looked so good next to him. There is a real reason as to why the Jacksonville Jaguars signed him so quickly too. Look at the Chiefs with their drafting of C Creed Humphries who gades as the best center in the NFL and that O line of the Chiefs has the best in the NFL center/guard threesome that protects PM...even with kind of not so great tackles. Now there might even be reasons beyond the cap for cutting the guy, concussions, how he graded against certain teams pass rush. Still, that position needs a top player. -
Do The Bills Have Enough "Elite" Talent?
Nihilarian replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well, if you look back a bit I think we would see that Diggs was elite, Tre White was elite, and Dawkins is also elite in my view. Von Miller at full strength is also elite. But yeah, Allen is H & S above everyone else right now. defensive Injuries have seriously screwed this team the last few seasons and as much as the FO has put into the defense it hasn't been enough. -
Good for him. Glad he is gone from that CF that Bilcheat had him in with DC for his OC... probably ruined him.
-
I agree, Loved the guy. When he was mic'd up and I watched him hit, it looked like getting hit by a Mack truck... reminded me of Steve Atwater
-
All I'm saying is this team needs an experienced top WR to replace/help Diggs...somehow, some way. If they had that WR against the Chiefs they would have won that game hands down. If they had managed to sign D-hop things would have been much different this season in my view. Perhaps that would have taken some heat off of Diggs and he would have done better. Diggs had 8 targets for 3 receptions for 21 yards in that playoff game. Oh, one fumble too. Sound like someone who is making 18.5, per?
