Pleasantly surprised that they kept Romo/Nanz on the game instead of moving them to the LA game. As for the TV contract being negotiated at a lower price, it won't happen anytime soon. I work in media and the NFL audience is not only the biggest, but the hardest to reach demographically. The networks are willing to take a loss based on the halo effect it has to the rest of the schedule. Look at how the Simpsons' ratings crater in the 18-49 demo at the end of the football season (as well as weeks FOX doesn't have the double header). The networks won't just be competing with each other, but the digital heavyweights are licking their chops to enter the bidding for exclusivity. The 2022 renegotiation will be MASSIVE.

From my perspective, the Special Team Coach should have been fired for either not knowing his kicker was hurt, or for not informing Jackson of Gonzales's injury.
This is strange. Did he even know? Hopefully a surprise Bob Woodward book based on the '18 Browns season will drop early next year. This team is fascinating.

Not the worst choice. I wonder though why we get modern(ish) pop acts but rock acts half to be classic.

Thanks OP, good article. The story was pretty balanced, giving both sides the sitting/starting argument a fair shake.

Having a franchise QB is important. Not having a dysfunctional organization is equally or more important. The Oakland & Washington's incompetence over the years have averted eyes from the Chargers' brazen idiocy. From the SD stadium & LA relocation debacle, to the Bosa situation, to firing coaches at the wrong time, Eli (well his agent & father really) look smarter and smarter for refusing to play there.

My emphasis is on the comparison between Hue Jackson and Sean McDermott.
I get that, but was pointing out how Mayfield & Peterman are completely different players so your analogy doesn't hold water IMO. I do though agree with your main point that there's absolutely no proof that McDermott based the decision on race. He just has Peterman delusion syndrome. He made the same mistake again this year in starting him over Allen.

Hue Jackson will soon be exposed for the racist he is when he, too, sits TT in favor of a white rookie QB. Just a matter of time.
Be careful what you say on the Internet. Comparing Baker Mayfield to Peterman is slam dunk slander.

O'Brien or Jackson are the only contenders for in-season firings IMO. Tomlin would be shocking, Pittsburgh doesn't make rash decisions. Has anyone here made this bet before on previous seasons? If no coach is fired in-season, is it the first press released announced firing on the Sunday or Monday that wins the bet?

Sal C said the same thing several times on broadcasts...it started in the Cinci preseason game.
Interesting. He's generally pretty positive, so it's doubtful he was being hyperbolic. I have my issues with McD, but I hope he can sort this out. The thought of yet another regime change is nauseating.

Another reporter said the team had a different vibe this year as well. Anyone think that announcing Peterman as the starter caused many of the players to mentally check out?

Props to the headline!

Judging from McDermott's demeanor during the presser, I agree with you on the 'credit'. I don't think this was a case of "OK, we roll with Peterman, either his preseason improvements will hold in the regular season or we can switch to Josh Allen without people calling to give Peterman a shot if Allen struggles". That may have been how Daboll viewed it.
I think McD genuinely bought into Peterman's improvement at QB from pre-season. I think he genuinely likes and admires him and viewed him as epitomizing success according to his values - a hard working, faith-driven young man who worked hard and deserved his shot, and didn't deserve to get the hook after only one game.
I think Daboll may have had a come-to-Jesus meeting with McDermott, reinforced by Beane and maybe others, but Man! McDermott didn't handle it gracefully.
Well stated. I'm seeing a lot of red flags on McD's ability to evaluate personal, giving faith and amiability too much of a halo effect over talent. I'm very curious to know the dynamics of the McD/Beane relationship - i.e. how much is Brandon able to push back on his coach.

-Steve Sarkisian might be fired with a loss on Sunday
-Case Keenum still sucks
-Wade Phillips is boss
-Washington looks smart for ditching Cousins in favor of Smith
-The NFC North will be the most watchable division in football this season

Hallelujah! I'm not expecting this to solve our woes for the season but let the kid develop. Not that I'm expecting Allen to be the next Peyton Manning but a season like the 1998 Colts where he learned and improved each week en route to a 3-13 record wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Depending on Winston I'd say TB might need to draft a QB,.
Also hopefully Giants are awful this year. If they are they definitely would be replacing Eli
TB might want to get rid of Winston but it's hard to see NYG giving away capital to move up to draft a QB after passing at #2 last year.

A crisis management consultant in advance of Peterman's inevitable start on Sunday.

Knowing the Bills' luck, we'll want to trade down from the #1 pick but no team will be willing to break the bank for it. This is a weird period where almost all teams are set or set-ish at QB.

They forgot Anthony Lynn's one game after Rex was axed.
Key Players:

Key Moments:
-The bizarre press conference when the interim coach answered questions about Rex's firing/Tyrod's benching while owners/management hid
-Jets recover their own kickoff for TD in Bills endzone

OP tells no lies! I was waiting for another of these to be as hilarious as the Tampa Bay piece and this blows it out of the water.

If history is any indication I'll tell myself that I won't overreact to week one, then completely overreact to week one when I make my week two picks.

Being the Bills OC provides as much job stability as Australian Prime Minister, or wife to Larry King.

Why did they give us their "A-team" (I know, I know) for the Minny game??? 1pm game, not a rivalry...huh?
Because it's the only Vikings game CBS has access to until Min/Miami in December.

Probably #1. The last time the Bills were 16.5 dogs was 2007 vs the Pats (who won by 31).
