  1. Pleasantly surprised that they kept Romo/Nanz on the game instead of moving them to the LA game. As for the TV contract being negotiated at a lower price, it won't happen anytime soon. I work in media and the NFL audience is not only the biggest, but the hardest to reach demographically. The networks are willing to take a loss based on the halo effect it has to the rest of the schedule. Look at how the Simpsons' ratings crater in the 18-49 demo at the end of the football season (as well as weeks FOX doesn't have the double header). The networks won't just be competing with each other, but the digital heavyweights are licking their chops to enter the bidding for exclusivity. The 2022 renegotiation will be MASSIVE.

  2. Having a franchise QB is important. Not having a dysfunctional organization is equally or more important. The Oakland & Washington's incompetence over the years have averted eyes from the Chargers' brazen idiocy. From the SD stadium & LA relocation debacle, to the Bosa situation, to firing coaches at the wrong time, Eli (well his agent & father really) look smarter and smarter for refusing to play there.

My emphasis is on the comparison between Hue Jackson and Sean McDermott.

I get that, but was pointing out how Mayfield & Peterman are completely different players so your analogy doesn't hold water IMO. I do though agree with your main point that there's absolutely no proof that McDermott based the decision on race. He just has Peterman delusion syndrome. He made the same mistake again this year in starting him over Allen.

Judging from McDermott's demeanor during the presser, I agree with you on the 'credit'.  I don't think this was a case of "OK, we roll with Peterman, either his preseason improvements will hold in the regular season or we can switch to Josh Allen without people calling to give Peterman a shot if Allen struggles".    That may have been how Daboll viewed it.

I think McD genuinely bought into Peterman's improvement at QB from pre-season.  I think he genuinely likes and admires him and viewed him as epitomizing success according to his values - a hard working, faith-driven young man who worked hard and deserved his shot, and didn't deserve to get the hook after only one game.

I think Daboll may have had a come-to-Jesus meeting with McDermott, reinforced by Beane and maybe others, but Man! McDermott didn't handle it gracefully.

Well stated. I'm seeing a lot of red flags on McD's ability to evaluate personal, giving faith and amiability too much of a halo effect over talent. I'm very curious to know the dynamics of the McD/Beane relationship - i.e. how much is Brandon able to push back on his coach.
