  1.

Hahaha, I hope you're right...I was more or less just throwing a lil negativity fun on my post to keep on theme by saying it wouldn't work after I started with positivity and praise for NewEra and his OP hahaha. Seriously, hope this works as this board has been teetering on the line of unbearable for a bit now. Littered with people who would rather be right about being negative than actually root for the team or its players to win and succeed. Lots of Nostradamus like people around complaining about failures that haven't happened yet this next season given we are 6 months away from the first game still.

    Agreed.

  2. My point exactly. Some of these guys expect him to put up elite numbers. The guys that put up elite numbers have elite QBs.

Chicken and the egg. I think it cuts both ways.

The elite QB makes the average WR look better...I always go back to Marcia and Deion Branch.

An elite WR should be an easy target for an average QB...maybe use Alshon Jeffreys and Brandon Marshall with Cutler as an example.

  3. I'll go with a variation on the old Parcells line that you are what your record is regardless how good you think you are.

In three years Sammy has averaged around 12 games, 50 catches, 800 yards and 6 TD per year.

Blame it on injuries, blame it on the QB...it is what it is.

I'm fine with not picking up the option. In a perfect world, Sammy actually has a stud year and we work out a deal.

  4. It seems to me you would hire a GM, then let him come up with a HC that he can work with. Rather than hire a first year HC and let him pick his boss. That, to me, seems ass backwards and broken. But it is Pegula, and the Bills. Hope it works out and we aren't doing this same dance in a few years.

Loved the draft for the most part though. Good stuff whoever was in charge. Plugged some bad holes and really sets up the next draft nicely.

This concerns me too. The org chart has HC and GM reporting directly to the owner. Looks like a recipe for back-stabbing. I would expect a rookie HC to report to the GM. Will McD have a say in the GM search? Weird dynamic right now IMO.

I remain hopeful. McD has to prove himself but I like his demeanor. By most accounts the draft was a success.

I wonder if the draft would have been as successful had we fired Whaley along with Rex. Presumably we'd have gone the more traditional route of hiring a GM and letting the GM hire the HC. Had we done that maybe we'd wouldn't look "broken" but perhaps at the expense of the draft. If nothing else, any potential GM will love having two first rounders next year.

  5. i am generally in the minority, but often times apologies to me are for pussies.

there are times and places where you apologize but when your emotions got the best of you in a case like he did, where his actions already took over and had the spotlight in such a way you just can't say "sorry."

if he makes a personal foul, late hit, flagrant violation when he's stressed and excited he's gonna need to learn sorry ain't going to cut it and most importantly - if you're going to be sorry and regret it than it better be a god damn good thing to apologize for...

My point was he immediately acknowledged his mistake...without coaching. I've seen a ton of players do stupid stuff and have trouble owning up. Great players.

I don't know the first thing about this guy except those 47 seconds, but I what I saw was a highly motivated (or maybe just passionate) kid who in the moment recognized his mistake and self-corrected.

Anyway, eff him...he's not a Bill!

  6. i have a contrasting viewpoint.

i would look at the kid and see an inability to control his emoitions when it matters. yes it was sweet and sincere but it was a little bit too much and immature. i'm spending huge money. i don't want immature.

Fair enough, particularly with regard to the money. I thought the immaturity was mitigated by the immediate (unsolicited) apology.

  7. i wanted mahomes. now i have to really hope he sucks, or i will be a special kind of miserable.

I'm not a talent evaluator and from what I've seen over too many years the draft is a complete crap shoot. But as I've agreed with in other threads the Bills haven't devoted enough draft picks to QB over the years.

So I hope you're wrong and Mahomes (plus Trubisky and now Watson) all end up sucking!

One question I have is whether this means that the team has more faith in Cardale than the three picked so far.

  8. i am almost completely the opposite. i want them to get a qb at 10, or else just roll with cardale as the developmental guy. of course there are exceptions, but this is my gut feeling/knee jerk (pre) reaction.

I hear ya. If they like the QB, go get him, I'm cool with that. Everything I read is it will be another EJ reach but I admit that I know nothing.

Looks like we just traded down. Fascinating

  9. If this is an inappropriate mew thread, mods please remove it. I am only posting this so it can be referred to in days to come, if anyone is that much of a fanatic. :)

I respect all opinions and I'm curious as to who fellow posters actually want us to draft.

    Hopes:

    1) I would like to see a qb at #10. My choice would be Watson if he is there. He may bust out but if he doesn't, we win football games and have some value in Tyrod. It's all good.

    2) If no qb, trade down if we can get AT LEAST another 2nd round pick. A 3rd and a 2018 first would be great. If we go back to 20 or lower, I want Cam Robinson. A solid RT would help Tyrod AND the run game. We are presently weak at RT and teams can and will exploit this.

    3) If we stay at 10 and don't take a qb, I hope Jonathan Allen is there. He is a great player with a great attitude.

Hey, sorry for picking Tide players but these are the guys I watch, and have seen them in all of their games.

    Expectations:

Despite the depth at secondary in this draft, I am almost certain that we will draft a defensive back. This even if we do not trade down. I am thinking safety, but a corner wouldn't surprise me. It's the way we roll. :(

Also, allow me to thank the TSW posters and especially the draftniks. As rough as things can get being a Bills Fan, you folks keep it fun and entertaining, and provide the best sports dialogue on the web. I mean this. Thanks also to the mods and SDS.

    Enjoy the draft!!!

God bless you all and GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This may not be on point for the intent of the thread but:

I hope they draft a QB but not at #10.

I expect they won't get a QB unless they do it at 10.

  10. I'll continue to say that if his leash was this short you fire him in january. Either you commit to him or you don't. You don't let a guy you don't believe in run the coaching search, free agency and the draft before moving on him

Im normally decent at reading between the lines on these reports and I dismissed the Whaley comments for awhile but they sure have lingered. I'm starting to take the debate seriously and think that even if he stays there is a split in the decision.

Only point I was trying to add to your original comments is that I don't think McD's time in front of the camera in lieu of Whaley says anything about a power struggle.

With that said, it would be a weird dynamic to bring in a new GM before the guy he didn't hire as a coach actually coached his first game. My guess is Whaley lasts past game 1.

  11. Real quick,it's easy from the outside looking in and seeing our overall record improve under weight, but a lot of timings things happened. i.e. Ladd was playing hurt to start the year started to pick it up right when cappy gor fired. Same with Lee who had like 1 goal in hi first 18, then picked it up around when cappy was fired.

They also finally called up ho sang and played beauvillier. Recalled Halak and won a bunch in a row.

Yet, still had way to many blowouts against and way to many important games where we didn't show up or had no plan of attack to adjust to what the other team was throwing at us. He was the PP coach under cappy which was absolutely awful this year and didn't change one bit once he became the intrem.

You are trying to keep John Tavares, go out and get a coach with some experience. Some clout. No more guys learning on the job.

First off, apologies to all for Isles/hockey comments in a Bills/football forum.

You make some good points about the turn-around, not buying into all of them but this isn't the forum to discuss. Thanks for the feedback. Go Ottawa :)
