  1. and you know what happened when he did in the 4th quarter? we had a 10 play 5 minute drive with a big gaining play action pass. if we were willing to grind it out all day, i think we would have been in good shape. i do not think we wouldve been shut out in the first half. power running, some screens and take what they give you passes to stay on schedule, with the occasional deep ball wouldve been the seemingly obvious formula.

You mean because we got one play call correct (the 41 yard pass to Gray)? The rest of the drive were runs of 6,3,8,1,1,2,-1 & 3 yards.... Boy we manhandled the line of scrimmage.

  2. There is almost no way with this offense and the way they approach games that the Bills can compete against NE,Denver & GB. I watch the play calling, the offensive sets and decision making and it has been awful. They are not that bad imo, but they have to come out and be more aggressive and innovative.

Wen was the last time you saw a catch and run over the middle to a wide receiver. They caught Cleveland yesterday on the Gray third down pass and Fred Jackson barely got 1 yard on their other third down make.

Yep great to have a winning record in December (how sad expectations are), but the games are not fun to watch when you are hoping the defense gets the ball back.

  3. Unless playing the Jets. Unimaginative play calling and sets. Inaccurate passing and run plays. Converted 2 of 15 third downs (many under 4 yards) and what I saw were bad reads by Orton. Zero first half points. Outside two passes to Gray and a great catch by Woods absolutely nothing!!! No chance vs. Denver, GB or NE if have to rely on the Defense.

Lets not pretend that having Cleveland at home should have been a tough game for the Offense.

Look at some of the winning QB performances this week..... Stafford, Fitz, Rogers, Luck, Sanchez, Peyton, Brees, Ryan.

Really all year this Offense has been well below average (21st passing & 24th rushing).

  4. In the KC game forget the targets, as many as I remember were just throwaways. I see the alignments and it is almost always the same with Sammy on the outside and usually on the sidelines. I want to see him in the slot at times and hidden coming over the middle. I want to see him used more like Golden Tate.

Interesting how lousy Detroit's offense has looked the last two weeks vs. Arizona & NE and Stafford not looking to Golden Tate (most passes second half vs. NE were uncatchable) and with megatron back.

  5. A win is a win, but 5 targets just is not enough. After watching Odell Beckham and a # of easy catches he made (and a catch for all time), says it should not be hard to have formations that get him the ball. The first drop was actually a badly times pass by Orton. Watkins had no time to react.

Get it to him in space and not just on the sidelines.

  6. Have Bills receivers been called for more offensive PI penalties than defensive PI has been called against opposing defenses? Now that would be an amazing stat, if true.

We know the answer is yes. Scott Chandler vs. KC on a crucial third down comes to mind (barely a nudge). The count on Offensive PI is 3..... Surprisingly 3 have also been called on the opposition.

Bad news is they are 4th in the league in penalties and (22nd in terms of beneficiary of penalties vs. opposing teams).

Last Stat.... Buffalo is LAST in Drawing Defensive Penalties as only 15 Have been called all season.... 5 were for roughing the passer and not a single Personal Foul called against opposing team.....

So yes something is going on....

  7. The point is very simple that 4 PI's (or similar) is jaw-dropping when viewed vs. the league. Heck 19 PI's (or 1.95/gm) probably is not terrible on the defensive side. I can't fathom that few penalties or disparity. While passes may go to the sideline, there are still routes over the middle and contact could be called. Heck with Watkins at least he hould have drawn a few. Too lazy to check NE or Denver calls.

    I found this:

    http://www.nflpenalties.com/

Pass Interference, Defensive Holding, Illegal Use of Hands & Illegal Contact have resulted in 460 penalties divided amongst 32 teams is 14.375, meaning Buffalo has 10 less then the league average!!!!

1972 is when I first became a bills fan (or earliest memories as father was not a sports fan). Attending games was only the early 80's......

  8. The stats are glaring in their disparity. In 10 games only 4 penalties!!!!! How is that possible? These are things that are reviewed and discussed with officials every week. We see more and more Offensive PI too as this has been a point of emphasis. Illegal contact after 5 yards, holding or PI is being called more and more and with Orton throwing it more, just by accident it should be called. Oh and lets not forget intentional grounding calls.

No they are not going back and reversing calls, but the coaches and bills officials need to work the refs prior and discuss it.

  9. Reading the site and usually just interested in what people say and didn't feel an urge to get involved until now.....

Just reviewed the first 10 games and wanted to confirm what I remember and not come off as a homer. Pass Interference, Illegal Use of Hands & Holding were points of focus this year and penalties are way up, unless you are a Buffalo receiver. Bills have been penalized 19 times over 10 weeks for those infractions, whereas Buffalo receivers have drawn ONLY 4!!!!! How is that possible? Are Buffalo receivers so bad that opposing teams don't need to hold, illegally hit or interfere with them?
