  1. Need 2 DT's and one of the 2 with pass rush/collapse the pocket ability would help. Need pass rush from either a DE beside Hughes or a line backer as well.

The good thing I guess is if they can get the elusive "franchise QB" in the draft any other good pick they make  will address a need besides secondary and RB (and depth at either would help). (Right OT, OG, WR, LB, Dline,). It actually is amazing to me that they've won 6 games with the paucity of talent and depth they have on this roster.

  2. This offense is unfixable. They have the worst wide receiving corp in the history of the franchise. They ludicrously decided to change the only successful thing from the last 2 years, the offensive blocking scheme that had the Bills first in rushing offense for 2 straight years, and replace it with one not suitable for their talent on the O-Line. McDermott seems like a bright fella but that was Rex Ryan like dumb. I see no hope for the O till they replace the personnel on it. THAT is the problem with regime change when the incoming regime can't keep what is working and replace what is not.

  3. That must have been awesome. Especially at Kleinhans. Haven't been there in years. why couldn't he have been there on a home game weekend. Did it sell out?

Saw him as MC at Claptons crossroads shows in Chicago twice. He has always has people on the floor laughing.

If not sold out, it was pretty close. Had JK and his family a row or 2 ahead of me. It was a very unique performance and the review in the BN captured it pretty well. ALL the performers were tremendous. Needless to say the accoustics in Kleinhans are exceptional. Bill is not a singer per se but his voice was good, his inflections and readings were outstanding and, needless to say, his comedic timing is perfect.

Though not involved last night, the other pro team in Buffalo is the orchestra and I am looking forward to seeing them this year for the first time in a long long time. Anyone that can play at the level of these people gets my attention and respect even if exactly what they are playing might not be in my wheelhouse.

  4. The interest to me in the article, wasn't the assessment of the various players coming out, although there was a tidbit or two in there, but rather from the perspective of the approach to the draft.

No worrying overly about which slot someone should be taken at, more a concentration on whether or not the kid can play, and if so, how long will it take for him to start. Which will define whereabouts, roughly, you are prepared to take him. Also, due to the approach taken, and the desire to have guys who are belived to fit the systems played, the board becomes very 'whittled down', making decisions a lot easier to take.

    Yes. This.

  5. Personal emotions about the writer aside, the article is just a list of the safer prospects universally expected to be first round picks under the heading of players he expects to be good. No kidding, so does everyone else. There's no new information or actual work there. He doesn't even go out on a limb and project what a player will be, only a possible ceiling. I could've written that article in under an hour. It's just a rah-rah fluff piece.

    If you say so

  6. Lombardi is a back-stabbing, self-aggrandizing tool. He has had horrific results when he's been in charge of drafts and personnel. He has made countless enemies by lying to and screwing over people. Don't read too much into this article. He's just parroting information that's generally available - and acting like he figured it all out himself. Please don't buy into his schtick.

That certainly may well be true. I have no idea. I didn't cite his article to boost him but rather because I thought it was interesting, both in thinking about the draft as a process and for what was said about some of this year's prospecrs.

  7. 1) 51-3

    2) Meeting Ralph in an elevator pregame on a Monday night game in Dallas in the 80's (Bills lost to Dallas so game was not memorable)

    3) Watching Bills in a Super Bowl in person at the Rose Bowl (forget the game, at least I got to see one with them in it in person)

    4) Being at the KC and Denver AFC Championship games (in addition to the Raiders game)

  8. Good points, but, nothing to do with the OPs question. He is advocating trading picks this year for picks next year(s).

My bad. I favor trading picks this year for more picks this year. They only have 6 which is not enough for the holes they have. In a deep draft like this one, you can find quality with only slight gradations of difference in talent, for many of the rounds. Why get one guy if you can get more and fill more holes depth wise at least?

  9. In my opinion it will not be a successful draft unless they do so. It's a deep draft. If you can keep moving down in Round 1 you'll still get a really good player in 1 but also more really good players in rounds 2, 3 and 4. I don't even care if there is a guy they really really really like. When you have the holes this team has you shouldn't fall in love with one player. I don't care HOW elite the guy is. Is 1 guy worth 3 good players? To me, only if it is a QB. Keep getting more good ones all atround the field! This team is dying for some depth (and youthful energy). Many prior drafts have failed or we've traded up rather than down. It just doesn't seem like a sustainable approach to have to fill over half the roster with free agents. They need more players. Almost everywhere! Trade down (if possible) and get them!

  10. The Bills need bodies and cheap labor to avoid having to the fill the roster with free agents every year. There are a lot of roster holes to fill. It seems to me that there is depth in the draft at WR, CB and S. They might get very productive functional guys in the 3-4 round range. I personally hope they trade down as often as it is feasible and possible to do so and acquire picks throughout the entire draft. If people think we need an OT (Right side) as I do, I don't think there is much beyond round 2 that would qualify as starter material (we already have a backup level player starting). To fill this hole, they would have to prioritize it over WR, S, CB and DL/LB and hope to fill those other slots with acquired picks further down. In a draft deep in these positions that might be doable. Under no circumstances am I drafting a QB in round 1. I just do not see the necessary talent there to justify it. That player is NOT starting this year with TT here at his salary. Trade down early and often would be my motto throughout.

  11. I'd really like to see the Bills trade out of pick 10 and go down some if they can find a trade partner.. My feeling is this draft will have enough CB's, WR's & safeties to find one later. What I don't see being possible to draft after round 2 is a useful OT. I think we need one (RT). Get an extra 2nd rounder and look at corners, safeties and wide outs with the extra pick or maybe someone like Derek Rivers would be in play too. They have many needs and few picks so trading down more than once wouldn't bother me at all.
