So is the narrative now that Cody Ford is a bad linemen?

    Oh boy...........

No the narrative is that he hasn't played up to starting caliber when we've had other guys play better.  You want your best 5 to play, especially in the biggest regular season game of the year.  As of right now Dawkins - Spain - Morse - Feliciano - Ty is the best combination of linemen we have.

Ford is a high end prospect for OT or OG, but he's having some struggles getting up to speed.  I say you reduce the rotation to 80/20 and put your best guys out there, but don't take him out completely.  You need Ford to develop for the long term growth of this line, but you also want to win now so you can't sacrifice playing ability for growth in a year where you've started 3-0 and are taking on the freaking Pats at home!

No where did I say Ford was bad, just that he needed more help.  Frankly Long was in there and looked just as bad as Ford.  There is a big drop off from Feliciano to Ford/Long at this time in Ford's development.

Don't put words in my mouth, just because i'm not pretending things are all sunshine and rainbows, doesn't mean I'm bashing the kid or calling him a bust or something.

I want to win, and the best 5 guys protecting Allen is the best way to do that.  Ford at this point isn't that.

For the long haul they are rebuilding this line inside out and did a lot of work to add guys... but not all were meant to be permanent.  Morse has been fantastic, they got Ty who's been VERY good, and they got Feliciano who was hurt but before he got hurt he was playing very well. Spain has been disappointing in spots and good in spots... but he's still about average for an OG in this league. Dawkins has been sub-par, and Ford has been sub-par. Ford should sit if Feliciano can play and ty can play. Dawkins is a necessary evil because they thought he'd take a step forward and IMHO he hasn't.

But end of the day they are MUCH better than last year, and they are better than the 3 lines we've played and they're better than the guys the Pats are rolling out.

It's very hard to build a line in this league, good linemen are almost as hard to find as good QBs... there are just more of them coming into the league every year. I think they did a good job adding guys who are NFL starting caliber, but if you want stand out OGs and OTs, they just aren't on the open market cause teams keep them.

Thats why the Bills also signed the guys they signed to short "prove it" deals. So if they aren't that great, we can get out from under those deals and move on, either in FA in 2020 or int he draft in 2020, or both.

I expect them to address O-Line again in a big way next year. They did a nice job patching it, but they need long term pieces, and that comes via the draft unless you want to WAY over spend like we were forced to with Morse. IMHO we'll go OG/OT in the first 3 rounds next year. It depends how Ford and Dawkins play out the season for where they'll go. Ford was supposed to lock down the outside with Dawkins. If he can't but can be an OG, they'll go OT again. If Ford can play OT, they'll look OG, but hopefully also consider upgrading Dawkins.

It'a REALLY hard to build a line, and this one is light years better than last year, and still top 20 in the NFL. The best ones are REALLY good, but the rest are a lot like ours... patchwork.

Spain seems extremely top-heavy to me - if you get him lunging forward, he cannot recover.

Yeah, it helps him in leverage when he is locked up with guys, if he can keep from getting pushed down he can stack up most guys, but if they get position on him or get him in the hand fighting stage to over commit, he's never going to get his balance back.

I think that was exposed when Morse needed to pay more attention on the right side and double team over there, rather than allowing Feliciano to man the RG spot and he could float either left or right based on the play call or protection read.

When the Center needs to automatically shift his protection to 1 side every play to make up for a bad O-linemen next to him, that's dangerous because the play call could need him elsewhere.

There was a noticeable change in the Bengals' D line after Feliciano went out.  Their guys seemed to get a lot better.  I think Ford is still a work in progress, and I suspect Ty wasn't 100% when he came back in, either.

We never hear Spain's name mentioned, which is a good sign he's doing his job.

Spain seemed to struggle later in the game, but I think it was because Morse was shifting over to help out with Ford and that left Spain more on an island than previously... the whole chemistry seemed disrupted when Feliciano came out.

  4. With the new android update, the One Buffalo app doesn't work... so beware anyone who has not done the update for Android OS 10... DO NOT UPDATE IT.  I had to go to the ticket office and have them text me my ticket because with the new OS update the app just crashes as soon as you open it.  The ticket office knows but the app hasn't been updated yet to fix it...

  5. The hope is this is just a sprain and the MRI is to make sure there is no tear.  Either way he is unlikely to suit up for the game this week.  we're going to need to make a waiver move to add a DT since we only have 4 in our rotation.  With how much no huddle and hurry up the PAts run, even it Phillips can play, he'll be on reduced snaps and they would need to rotate more guys in.  Since he is probably not going to play we need more than just 3.

They won the offseason(s).  Drafted a QB with a huge personality, then picked up a WR with the same.  Now all they need to do is sign AB and they will have the trifecta.

Oh my god, can you imagine how bad things would get if AB went in to Cleveland to play with OBJ and Landry?  People would be all about them being the best offense ever then AB would go all AB and the melt down would be AMAZING.

    Any update?!?!?!?!?

The Bills haven't addressed the Media since post game, we won't hear anything until they do.  The Bills have been pretty buttoned up about "leaks" under McDermott.  It won't necessarily be at the presser, they may put the information out just before it, but they don't usually have info on players leaking out like it did in the past.  They control the flow of information very well.

  8. People are talking a lot about the offense, and rightfully so, but something that stuck out to me like a sore thumb all game was the inability for this team to reach Andy Dalton.

Going into this weeks game one of the biggest things discussed about the Bungles was that their O-Line was banged up TERRIBLY, and the Bills should be able to feast on them.  But that wasn't the case.  They did a nice job in the first half stuffing the run, and flummoxing Dalton by putting pressure forcing quicker throws.  But they still weren't getting to him, and this inability to hit him and knock him down allowed them to change their offensive approach.

In the second half they adjusted with shorter routes in space between the zone, and the defense struggled then to stop them.  I know no defense will stop an offense all day, and only allowing 17 points is a win for any defense, but my point is that they were put in a position to need a stop, and the defense bent to allow them to get to field goal range to win.   All the while this HIGHLY paid defensive line was entirely unable to register sacks against Dalton despite them having injuries all over the line.

Dalton is far from a world beater QB, and he picked the D apart in the second half in the short passing game.  Thankfully he's not Tom Brady or they would've moved the ball even better and really run us out in the second half.

My concern is WE DO PLAY TOM BRADY THIS WEEK!  No one is better at the short precise passing attack than Brady, and that has been exposed by the Bungles as a weakness of this defense.

It's highly documented that the way you beat Brady is to, to quote Kawika Mitchell "Punch him in the mouth, and when he gets back up you punch him again".  Our D can't get to Andy Dalton behind a TERRIBLE O-line... how do we expect them to get pressure on Tom Brady who is known for getting it out quick?

    IMO it's a large concern!

Maybe I'm over analyzing it, but I really don't think I am... if they can't get pressure on Brady this week, he is going to dink and dunk pick us apart on the way to 35 points this week.  And I don't see the Bills winning in a shoot out...

  9. I miss the days when post game was actually listening to the player interviews in the locker room.  I don't think they've done that going back to when WGR Took back over as the official bills radio network, but DAMN do I miss them doing all the player interviews.

I couldn't care less what Mike Schopp and Bulldog think about the game immediately after.  We have a full week of radio to fill with their takes on everything (which are always negative), so why do I need to be subjected to their negativity, arrogance, and pontificating immediately following a win?

You know what I wanted to hear while I was riding high and stuck in traffic?  I wanted to hear Dawson Knox talk about his first touchdown catch in the Pros, AND for that matter his first TD Catch since HIGH SCHOOL!  I wanted to hear about that run he had where he electrified the stadium and got his team in position to win.

I wanted to hear Goof Ball Tre White talk about his Picks, dude is hilarious! I would've loved to hear him joking around about it... or hear some of the guys talk about how the fans were insane and how the defense fed off it big time.

Why do we need to listen to talking heads *****ing on callers instead of the guys from on the field?

  10. They have coolers of water at the Guest Services area where you can fill an EMPTY water bottle or refill a bottle you purchased there.  Additionally, if you sign up for their "Designated Driver of the Game" Program they give you a coupon for a free Pepsi Product which includes Aquafina.... the snag there is you can't be drunk and saying your a DD lol.

But I do the sign up every game to get my free water and then refill it at the Guest Services areas.

They used to have Water Fountains back 25+ years ago but they removed them because they had issues with freezing pipes.

Unfortunate.  No such thing as a gimmie game in the NFL, esp if you are the Bills.  The 49ers crushed the Bengals with a running attack, mostly off tackle, Singletary wil be sorely missed imo.

Miami will be as close as there is such a thing this year... even then it becomes a dangerous trap game to teams looking ahead. Much like the Bungles are for us this week.

  12. 2 hours ago, ColoradoBills said:

But that's a contradiction.  If Miami and it's tank leave them in purgatory for a number of seasons,  what team would want to copy that?

How many teams have traded their entire draft for a player like NO did years ago?  None.

IF Miami tanked fully a couple of years ago and had the 1st overall pick would they have drafted Trubisky, Mahomes or Watson?

IF they drafted Mahomes and started him right away, would Mahomes have the kind of success that he has had OR could he have been

ruined by a bad organization and team?

IND tanking for Luck didn't get them to the Super Bowl either.

I would say in today's NFL, what the Texans gave up for Tunsil was an ASTRONOMICAL amount... and it's no anywhere near the NO trade for Ricky Williams.

The more I read, I see people throwing out teams like Indy as an example of tanking working or people saying the Dolphins should or shouldn't be punished.  My take is this:

Indy tanked for Luck, we all know they did, and frankly most people were begging for the Bills and any other mediocre team to do the same.  Did it work out?  They got a franchise QB who was a generational talent, but they never properly built around him, and the absolute BEATING that man too as a result caused him to retire early before ever achieving what he COULD HAVE BEEN.

I would argue that the Dolphins have put themselves in a similar risky spot, they traded away all their proven talent and now are reliant on draft picks to try and get better... as we all know that's risky. Who's to say they don't take the next Mike Williams to protect Tua's blind side and gets him killed?  There are risks in what they're doing as well...

The main complaint is that the Dolphins have upset the competitive balance of the league by intentionally getting rid of all their talented players for futures.  Sooooo If the NFL is mad they're intentionally bad, can you explain how that is solved by the Dolphins being punished by having draft picks stripped away?  They absolutely WILL NOT get better if the league strips them of the picks they got for these players... so they wont have the players, or the picks, and they'll be terrible so no FAs will want to go there.  It's essentially a death sentence for a few years...  Does the NFL want to create a team that will be a door mat to the rest of the league for the next few years?  I highly doubt that, as it would upset the competitive balance of the league further.

I see them giving a slap on the wrist to Miami, may take 1 pick and a salary cap penalty fine or something... then they'll change the rules about what teams can get in compensation: IE: You can't trade for 3+ first rounders in the same season or something to that effect.

Call him Up.  Here are a List of Guys that can be cut to make that happen. Before you ever get to talking about Zay Jones.

    Conor McDermott

    Lee Smith

    Jaquan Johnson

If you cut Connor McDermott you only have 3 OTs, Dawkins, Ford, and Ty.... most people want to move Ty over to OG, so you want to only have 2 OTs on the roster?

Lee Smith is the best blocker we have and he has been healthy, something neither Kroft nor Knox have been this off-season, cutting him opens you up to being short handed if Kroft can't stay healthy WHEN he actually is able to play.

Johnson is playing a key role in special teams, and rotation at Safety.

I agree, Duke keeps impressing... but who do you cut to get him on the active roster? If Singletary isn't 100% they're going to need to consider adding a RB as it is, and they're already dangerously thin at CB.

My thought is the Bills are looking to get the O-Line sorted out and either cut or trade the odd man out to a team needy of O-Line help. Once they do that they will open up a spot they can use for RB, CB, or WR. My thought is their first call for the 53 for each:

RB: Marcus Murphy (FA still) or Byron Marshall (PS)
    CB: Cam Lewis (PS)
    WR: Duke Williams (PS)

They have other more pressing needs right now than WR, and while I think Duke should be on the 53 ... who do you cut?

Right now, IMHO the lowest of the low on the totem pole for the 53 are: Kurt Coleman (S) & Ike Boettger (OG)... While he's buried on the depth chart I think Coleman is a team favorite because of his familiarity with the system, and Boettger is a rotational depth guy on the line's interior, but maybe is becoming expendable with Morse, Spain, Feliciano being the starters and Long and Bates playing as well as they have in reserve roles. Plus Ford looking better at OG changes that interior as well, but it makes us VERY thin at OT where we only have 4 including Ford. If Ford is permanently moved to OG, they can trade Long and/or cut Boettger because it would move Feliciano to a reserve role. But we end up with just 3 OTs in Dawkins, Ty, and Connor McDermott. That's far less than Ideal.

It's a VERY difficult numbers game right now, so just adding Duke means losing something else. They are a bit banged up on the back end so you don't want them to cut a Safety unless they're adding a CB to fill in for Johnson. You just don't want to thin the herd right now with NE on the horizon.

I would keep an eye on Andre Robert's health and the kick return game. If they guys handling it now keep doing the good job they're doing, I could see them move Roberts to IR and release him with an injury settlement which could open the door for Duke Williams to come on to the 53 man roster. But that's really the only avenue at this juncture I see which would get Duke Promoted... until the O-Line is more settled and we have a clearer picture of who we want to keep and who can go.

  14. I am so sick and tired of hearing about Poncho Billa... a guy who lived in Texas is the face of all Bills fans now, because he had cancer... just let that sink in people...

How many Buffalo Bills fans in Buffalo and around the country have lived and died and loved this team and have battled with cancer etc?  And yet this guy is "the ultimate bills fan" and what not...

It's just silly, and I CANT FREAKING WAIT for people to stop talking about him.

Yeah I know this isn't popular and people are going to get grouchy, but whatever...
