  1. For 17 years old, the kid has it all. He is going to be a very good QB.

This has nothing to do with the Bills tanking, or drafting him. It was simply to show a high-quality high school QB recruit (#1 in the nation), and the skill-set he has...which is impressive. Does he have things to work on? Absolutely, who doesn't at that age? But, it's more about the fact that he already has so much, at such a young age. (And again, he is rated higher than Matthew Stafford, who improved A LOT at Georgia...where Eason is going.)

I enjoy watching and breaking this stuff down, I thought some others would/did too. I personally have never seen such a polished 17 year old QB. I am very impressed with him.

(Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I have been in the hospital the past week...glad to be out!)

Wow very impressed. Poised, great strength and size with plenty of time to fix mechanics. Thanks for posting

    Thanks for watching and responding.

Meh... Long way to go before he's in the NFL.

Every QB at 17 years old has "a long way to go before he's in the NFL." The point is, he is much further along at this stage, than many QB's before him. EJ Manuel still has "a long ways to go" to be good in the NFL.
  2. Has Gruden ever had a QB on that he didn't like? It is like these shows are here to only pretend the QB looks better.

He is the last person I will listen to talk about QB's now...especially after this.

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/draft/2014/04/18/johnny-manziel-jon-gruden-houston-texans/7857409/

"Jon Gruden, who recently worked with Manziel for his Gruden's QB Camp television series on ESPN, says the former Heisman Trophy winner has a rare skill set you don't want to regret passing up."

"Gruden also compared Manziel to Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young, who would improvise and run often early in his career."

(I bet all the teams who passed on him really "regret passing up," that skill-set.)

  3. Well, crap. Best lineman available at 50, unless Mathis or someone else becomes a viable trade option.

Again, Evan Mathis is not a fit for this team, or they would have probably already brought him in. He is a zone-blocking offensive guard, not a power-blocker like what the Bills have and want to build with.

Everywhere you look, this is what you will read about him...

    "Not a road grader." http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/football/2005draft/Mathis,Evan-OG-Alabama.htm

"At 6'5/298, Mathis is an athletic guard and would ideally land in another zone-blocking scheme." http://corner.bigblueinteractive.com/index.php?mode=2&thread=512380

"Just about the only weakness in Mathis' game is that he's not much of a power guard, but that's not his game." http://www.cincyjungle.com/2011/7/15/2277815/bengals-scouting-report-evan-mathis

None of that sounds like the kind of offensive line the Buffalo Bills are trying to build. He is 290 lbs, whereas Iupati (Roman's LG in San Fran) was 350...Evans does not fit this offensive line's scheme.

  4. And please, folks, this has nothing to do with the Bills needing a QB. Lol. I just wanted to share this with people. His skill-set blows my mind.

I have got to say that this kid's throws on the run are impressive.

    Right? Especially for his size!!!

The director of scouting for 247 sports says "there is nothing he is missing." (And he is not even a senior in high school yet!)

    http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/247sports-jacob-eason-tops-2016-class/vi-BBie9aA

  5. I understand this is long down the road, and you can delete this if you want...but I just wanted to share this with people, so they can get to know him now. This kid is going to be a stud. There is zero doubt in my mind, as long as he stays healthy, he will become a top-pick in the NFL draft when he is eligible. He is 6-5/6-6, 215 lbs right now, and he will be a senior in high school next year. These are his junior season highlights. Look at how good he is already.

(I'm really into football and hockey prospects, I was watching Connor McDavid long before there was any "McEichel" debate.)

This kid could be the next generational talent at QB in the NFL...check him out.

His arm is incredible. His mobility for his size is impressive. His footwork, the way he squares up to throw, the power behind his throws, the ball-placement and touch on his throws, the way he drives off his back foot and puts his hips into his throws, the spin on the ball when he does throw...it's all there. (Highest rated QB commit since Matthew Stafford in 2006.)

(Again, sorry if this is not the place to post something like this, but seeing these kinds of things gets me excited for the future of the sport. I love this stuff.)

EDIT: He has played varsity ball since he was a freshman, and I think he has been a captain since his sophomore year...but I cannot find the article where I read that.

  6. JP and Chan. At least both guys seemed to care. Can't say that about everyone else on that list.

At this point no votes for crazy Dick Jauron.

Thats who I took, Chan might have been able to do something with JP. but I also think Chan would be a good coach for EJ.

That is what I picked as well. I thought that RJ & TE were scared to death to play the position. There was nothing that I hated more than watching RJ run out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage!! Chan was a good offensive mind and may have been able to harness some of JP's ability.

This is a tallest midget poll so that's what I went with.

That was my vote as well. The offense Chan ran in KC with Tyler Thigpen (pistol), might have been able to bring out more in JP.

I am glad this is just a poll...and we don't have to worry about this. Lol.

  7. - Ali Marphet played LT for DIII Hobart College, can play all 3 positions, extremely athletic OLmen...ran the fastest of all OLmen at combine and 225 30 times...projected at 1st/2nd round

    - A.J. Cann rated as top OG by some, played LT for South Carolina...projected 1st/2nd round

    - Mitch Morse played LT for Missouri...projected as an OG in NFL...36 reps at 225#...projected as a 4th/5th rounder

those are the only ones in the top 10 OG that played LT/RT in college and are projected as OG in NFL on www.cbssports.com

La' el Collins, LSU, is projected as an OT but many say he'd be better inside at OG...he'll be gone in the first

"Bottom Line: Has the body type and movement of a zone-scheme center with guard potential. Technically sound and has athleticism to become an NFL starter, but must prove he can handle the substantial jump in power and speed he will see. Looked strong enough at the Senior Bowl, but he could be a year away from being ready. Ascending prospect with a chance to be one of the steals from this year's group of interior blockers."

    http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/ali-marpet?id=2552332

As I posted in another thread, I saw him play a couple times down the road, and a high school friend/teammate of mine coached him for 2 years...he just does not seem like a fit, especially in the 2nd round.

  8. PFTonNBCSN @PFTonNBCSN - Mar 31

"@TreJackson54 has the potential to be a starting guard for double-digit years in the NFL." - @RossTuckerNFL

I want the biggest, nastiest S.O.B. there is...but I still think Kouandjio (and Richardson) turn it around with this staff, in this scheme.

As for Marpet, I saw him play 20 minutes down the road at Hobart a couple times, and I just don't think he fits in this scheme, unless it's at center. A former high school teammate, and a friend of mine who coached him at Hobart his first two years, says the same thing. But he thinks he could be a pro-bowl player in a zone-blocking scheme.

  9. I keep seeing how Tampa should draft Winston because Jimbo Fisher runs a pro style offense and is the most NFL

ready. I disagree. Off the field issues aside this is how Jimbo Fisher's former Qb's careers have fared in the NFL thus far, EJ is not in good company.

You really tried to compare Jameis Winston to these bums? LMFAO, good one.
  10. Power man under Roman

    Zone scheme under Marrone

Gailey uses zone based schemes out of spread forms

This is exactly why guys like Richardson and Kouandjio have a better chance at succeeding under this regime, compared to the last regime.

It is also why I don't think LG Evan Mathis and his 290 pound frame is a good fit for this scheme...Roman's LG in San Francisco (Iupati) was 350 lbs.

Urbik agree, but IIRC he does not get great marks as a run blocking RG. He's "meh" to "OK" there at best.

Incognito, would like to understand why you say that. He played RG with the Rams and was inconsistent. His best years were with the Dolphins, where he played 3 1/2 years at LG and went to the probowl -also as a LG http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/I/IncoRi20.htm

If we aren't "mixing sh** up" for the sake of mixing sh** up, the line would currently look like Henderson or Kujo (RT), Williams or Urbik (RG), Wood ©, Incognito (LG), Glenn (LT)

Hopefully we draft a couple of good OLmen. If we do I'm thinking Richardson may get cut.

Isn't Incognito a better run-blocker, and Williams a better pass-blocker...which would make sense to have Incognito at RG, and Williams at LG?
  11. It's possible Bradham is an OLB in this system, we know nothing about Powell. Spikes is not a done deal. They are lacking a thumper in the middle.

About your TE ideas, I agree that Funchess is more of a receiver and something we don't need. But this thread is about #50, not post-op Veterans. If you're looking for a TE at 50, Clive Walford might be the pick

Rex had a 6-4, 260 lbs OLB and a 6-6, 280 lbs OLB with the Jets (Pace, Coples), I see no way Bradham fits that mold. Brown is 260 lbs and quite the thumper.

And as for TE, I don't care what the thread is about, my post wasn't about "post-op veterans," I just happened to add that Gresham is a specific player who fits the mold of what we need, and he could be cheap and not cost a draft pick. But if you want to take an unknown TE with your first pick, instead of something else, and fill that role with a cheap free agent...go for it.

And thanks for the heads up on Spikes not being a done deal, I wasn't sure, although I said they "MIGHT" bring him back, which if they do, eliminates the need to draft a MLB.

  12. Here would be the hard to pass up list for me at 50:

Any of the non-injured OTs: Peat, Collins, Clemmings, Humphries or Flowers slides -- Humphries in particular if some teams are worried about his youth. The draft is deep at G -- Scherff, Cann, Jackson, Tomlinson, Miller, Shaq Mason and some T's who will be guards in the pros -- Williams (OK), Brown (Louisville)..Bills can wait

A large D lineman -- Jordan Phillips and Carl Davis

Another ILB -- McKinney, Perryman or Kendricks--all show 3 down ability

Rex loves corners -- Just keep this in mind....one of the corners with a first round grade slides

For later round slips-here are some guys that I think fit the schemes...and could get playing time this year and be held in reserve for future veteran departures -- in the spirit of the Whaley article from Carruci Yolo posted above..

    RD 3:

Shaq Thompson -- swiss army knife Rex would love to scheme for...

    RD 5 and 6:

Jamon Brown- Louisville-An OT in a Guards body and mentality

    Anthony Harris - S - UVA

Ben Koyack- TE - ND Quality blocker with receiving skill that can be developed

    Antwan Goodley - WR Baylor

    David Johnson - UNI RB

Tony Lippett - WR MSU - good skills as a WR and also played corner effectively this year in a game...

    RD 7:

    Zach Wagenmann - OLB Montana...

Zach Zenner - South Dakota State RB/FB

Scherff won't make it to #20, let alone #50...Shaq Thompson is not falling out of the 1st round either, especially not to the 3rd round. Lol.
  13. I really don't think Funchess meets a glaring need. I'm a for BPA, but you have to use that theory through a lense. We have much bigger holes to fill (OL, ILB, DT)

Bradham and Brown are the ILB's and Rex only carried 3 with the Jets...they currently have Powell, and might bring back Spikes.

    ILB is not a "need."

Another TE is more of a need, although I think they need a blocker, not another receiver, at the position. (Jermaine Gresham, when he's healthy, if he's cheap, fits perfect.)

I don't think so but Whaley CLEARLY wants a big WR. If you think about it the Bills have Harvin on a 1 year deal and only 2 other WR on the roster. They were 31st in receiving yards out of the slot last year and miserable in the red zone. While it may not look like a need on the surface it will be a need soon.

I still think that they are going to get a veteran starting caliber OL. They will draft 1 as well and have 3 2nd year guys that they will try to develop.

I agree with that as well...if DGB is there at #50, I see no way you can pass on him. He brings an element to the Bills offense I don't think we have ever had, at least not in 15+ years.
  14. I say yes...

And I say it should be Brandon Bridge. From what I've seen and read he has elite physical tools but is very raw at this point. Looks like he has the potential to develop into a Kaepernick kind of player.. which obviously would be good for a Greg Roman offense. If we can get him in RD 6 or 7 and let him sit and learn the next few years he could be a gem. If not.. no big loss.

    Check out this writeup ...

    http://nflmocks.com/2015/02/03/brandon-bridge-2015-nfl-scouting-report/

What does everyone think? Is there a developmental QB on your radar we should know about?

Brandon Bridge has more developing to do than Jeff Tuel, who is already 2 years into his development. Whaley has said that late-round picks will not make this team, so I would rather use the two 6th round picks, or a 6th and a 7th, to move back into the 5th for someone they want and can use, like another OG or a project OLB like Lynden Trail...something along those lines.

No QB they draft this year will see the field, so I rather not have another QB taking reps in practice...build up the rest of the roster and it's depth, so it's ready for a 1st round QB next year.

  15. I pray every night that Greg Roman can work his magic with EJ, like he did with Alex Smith...nothing would make this year better, than EJ being the QB who is winning the games.

However, I think the better bet is that we finally find out that what we have will not cut it, and next year they do everything within their power to move up for the best QB available.

Whether it be Connor Cook, Christian Hackenburg, Cardale Jones...whomever it is, I'm not sure, I just hope the Bills do everything they must do to get him.

(I want him to succeed, I'm just not sure he has what it takes to be a legitimate NFL starting QB who wins football games with his arm...which he WILL need to do, eventually, for a championship.)

  16. I feel you man, but what happened in my opinion under the Whaley Marrone time was Whaley was drafting guys for a run first offense while the coach was trying to play the guys to run his system which was pass first. I think we have the guys on our roster for a ground and pound now they just weren't used right this is the way I see it (LT Glenn 6'6" 345; LG Incognito 6'3" 319; C Woods 6'4" 310; LG Kouandijo 6'7" 322; LT Henderson 6'7" 331) keep in mind two were R last year and will only grow. Kouandijo and Henderson could be interchangeable or we will draft another player more suitable for guard but I would be happy with these five starting. Plus we added a legit FB which will only help. I think we will finally experience a head coach and GM working together having the same vision in the type of players they want which we haven't had in a long time.

I'm pretty sure that Whaley or Rex has said they do not want the 2 young kids next to eachother, which is why they talked about moving Glenn inside and Henderson to LT, with Kouandjio at RT.

The way they laid it out, it sounded like this...Henderson - Glenn - Wood - Incognito - Kouandjio (Wish I could remember the interview, pretty sure it was on Murph's show.)

Also, didn't Whaley recently say, "unless someone is there that we cannot resist, we will not draft a QB early."

He also just said that the later round picks will not even make the roster, which leads me to believe they try to use them to move up and get 3-4 players they really want.

  17. Mariota working out for Chargers...they are VERY high on him, apparently.

    http://boltbeat.com/2015/03/13/marcus-mariota-san-diego-chargers-rumors/

And there are rumors the Chargers could use Rivers as a trading chip to move up in the draft.

    http://www.rantsports.com/nfl/2015/03/17/san-diego-chargers-rumors-trading-philip-rivers-to-move-up-for-marcus-mariota-is-well-worth-it/

IF the Bills are going to be giving up a bunch of assets for a QB, I would much rather them trade up for the best QB in the draft next year, than give up a lot and pay a lot for a 34 year old QB.

  18. I want to thank BigdaddyinOrlando, Buffalo Barbarian, the Big Cat, BuffaninATL, and Flip Johnson for the warm welcome. Buffalo Bills fans are the most loyal and friendliest fan base in the entire world! Go BILLS!

I like to hear the discussion on Joe Licata. If I am asking for details on what is wrong with his game, do not consider this argumentative, as I am very curious to read other viewpoints and I respect the difference in opinion. Many naysayers said that Tom Brady and Russell Wilson never showed a pro QB caliber arm in college but both went on to prove these critics wrong. If you disagree with the fact that the Bills should take Licata and do not think he is pro-QB, please elaborate if you have a chance as I would like to hear some analysis from other viewpoints. Often people will just make comments such as "that guy sucks" "that guy is not professional quality" and although this is the right of anyone to have an opinion, it adds nothing of substance to discuss in furtherance of the topic.

Everybody knew Russell Wilson had an NFL arm, the question was about his size and poise in the pocket.

    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/russell-wilson?id=2532975

"Wilson is this year's big-time question mark at quarterback. Unlike those who have held this title in the past, Wilson is a stellar passer who shows arm strength and accuracy when he is able to deliver the ball without a hitch...If Wilson were three inches taller there would be debate at the top of the draft as to where he fits in."
