OK, so they upgraded their O-line. But Beane used 3 top-60 picks on edge guys alone and, as harsh as it may sound, they were not even a blip on the sack radar.
Given that the 2021 draft strategy was to get guys who could put more pressure on Mahomes, I would say that the type of edge rushers drafted do not appear to be up to it (I know they are young) and the spotlight should probably be on the scouting department - that is what I would like to hear him dissect.
Yea I'm not disagreeing with you.
But Basham and Rousseau are the wild cards next year. If they turn out the way Beane felt they can, this defense could become nasty real quick.
AJ appears to be a bust but as a 2nd round pick it is what it is. And a late 2nd. We say we keep going BPA but it sure does seem like we are drafting for need first.
We passed on Dobbins, AJ Dillon, and Antonio Gibson for Epenessa. Then picked Moss in round 3.

Optimism as Omicron peaks in California, but new BA.2 subtype raises questions

I would just like to hear his thoughts on why the 16th-ranked KC defense got more pressure on Josh than the top-ranked defense got on Mahomes after drafting 3 edge rushers in the first 2 rounds.
Because the Chiefs (I'll keep saying this) moved heaven and earth to upgrade their oline after it collapsed last year.
I want that kind of focus on our weaknesses this off season.
Imo the 2021 off season was an overall failure bc we didn't improve enough we still lost 7 total games.

I was amazed and encouraged by how well the OL pass blocked against the Chiefs. Didn’t hear at all from Chris Jones or Frank Clark really, though Ingram made a few plays. What do you do in this situation? A finesse OL that doesn’t run block well, but can pass block efficiently. Who do you look to upgrade? Bates? He wasn’t at all a weakness. Is Morse sticking around?
Agreed the middle of the line played well - and it makes you reconsider how big a need Guard suddenly is. It is a need but I no longer call it vital like we did in week 8.
I think you draft the best Center you can maybe play him at guard for a year to eventually move.
Draft 1 or 2 interior oline.
Draft 2 DBs. Draft a WR and RB.
I'd prioritize Corner then interior oline - but if the corners at 25 are not so certain and a stud Center is there, I'm taking the stud Center.

Oline and CB are the probable top draft picks from what I heard today for Beane.
And this would be the correct approach
And I'm looking to trade for someone on that Saints defense
Go bold get Lattimore

And 4/5 years going 7-9 with Drew Brees?
I'm not sure people really understand what their trying to say sometimes. McDermott has a long way to go before we start talking about firing him.
Those defenses were a complete disaster and a major reason why Brees had to throw for nearly 5000 yards 3 times.
He brought in Dennis Allen and built a defense that destroys Tom Brady and the Bucs every time. And if Brees wasn't playing with a shredded shoulder last year they beat Tampa in the playoffs to.
Sean Peyton definitely overrated.
We look great against Jacoby Brissett tho. Ok that's not entirely fair but I will 100% tell you I think this defense is nowhere near as good as it was in 2019 - and it starts up front. Oliver is a decent player. We needed more but he's decent. The rookies get a pass (Basham never should have been the pick Humphrey should be a Bill). Addison was our best pass rusher. And it wasn't good. The Dline needs to be better then what got pushed around vs Indy, New England, KC yesterday. It needs to better. Someone made a great comment about the philosophy of bending too much just gives out offense less time with the ball. Did I read that right we only ran 5 plays in the 3rd quarter yesterday?
Need a major upgrade up front. One more corner. And some soul searching on scheme.

Sean Payton has playoff collapses of his own.
Minnesota miracle he didn't miss a tackle
The DPI that wasn't called vs the Rams.
Those 2 things don't happen he's in 2 more super bowls. Those things were out of the coaches and players hands. The DPI that wasn't at least. Diggs made an all time play.
Defend McD all we want he has earned it.
But the laughing off Sean Peyton as overrated is mind bogglingly ignorant. Him with Allen? Yea I'm sure that's a bad idea.
And if they're about to blow it up btw find a way to get Lattimore or Davenport. Or Kamara. Or all 3.....move heaven and earth.

The coaches and that sorry sack of a crap number 1 defense let us down all day long and at the end… I’m more disgusted over the loss of this game than all the super bowl losses music city miracle all of them… This one tops em all for me….When I saw 13 seconds left on the clock I just had that gut feeling they were gonna blow it and sure enough….
Agree 1000%
I guess as a parent seeing your kids going from pure excitement and joy; embracing you jumping up and down in the living room like all of Bills nation, to looking at you completely devastated wanting you to make it all make sense and explain how that just happened in a matter of minutes hits you different.
My 12 year old - which btw is how old I was when wide right happened. He's got this way of trying to keep ME optimistic and positive. Which I usually am. He's spent the last 2 days telling me that Gabe Davis and Diggs is going to be unstoppable.
I'm my Dad's age when wide right happened fwiw. All comes full circle in Buffalo I guess.
But I believe in Josh Allen. That has not changed since I called him must see TV during his last 6 games in his rookie year. He's built different.
I know I'm not the only one that I think just witnessed him go from the "fun, goofy, one of the fellas guys" to complete assassin mode in the last 5 minutes of that game. Like he just realized he can be the best to ever play and wants to be. The look and demenear changed. I think he's still going to be Josh in his core that teammates love, but he looks like he's ready to go full Brady/Kobe/Jordan on the league.

The game plans put forth are McDermott.Allen doesn’t just get in the huddle, use his finger to draw routes in the dirt and break the huddle. There is so much preparation that goes into each game. He puts the team together and this team is one of the best in the league.
He isn’t anywhere close to being fired.
I'm going to need Bass to say he put too much into it before I can get close to being over this loss.
13 seconds and 2 timeouts to get into FG range is not impossible and allowing it to happen against Mahomes isn't as egregious as the kickoff. Its close but..
So much goodwill, pride, and success it feels totally gone with such an egregious sequence of choking.

I know right ?? Averaging over 41 points in the playoffs is unacceptable.
Because of McD or Because we have the best player on the planet?
Look my concerns about McD I stated Sunday night despite being in the most rage filled devastation as a fan I've ever been in are still legitimate questions - even tho yes I know he's probably not getting fired.
This is just so unprecedented and different. This isn't like music city or wide right. It's just not this is 1000000x worse.
And this excuse at the presser today?
I'm going to need Bass to confirm he put too much into the kick or I might for real completely tune him out. It's like finding out your spouse cheated on you. I'm not sure how I can look at him the same right now. That was so so so so so brutal.

If he called for the kickoff to go out of the end zone, what he said today is a more fireable offense then how he choked the game away and Bills might never be able to forgive him for it.
And in no way as a GM would I want to be forced into having to fire McD and just hand Daboll the job.
In no way has this even crossed my mind as the kind of savage big d move you make bc Sunday was so unacceptable and the explanation even worse nope not even crossed my mind once it would be a massive mistake I've been saying all year I can't wait for someone to hire Daboll and that is what's going to happen and life goes on it has been explained to me that McD will definitely recover from this we have every reason as Bills Fans to believe that.
Trust the process. Bass definitely kicked it too far.

Not kicking the low line drive was correct.
Odds it gets downed immediately and probably already around the 30 are high.
The high pop up inside the 10 had to be the call and the way Bass approached and followed thru that looked like what he was doing - but you can't temper your adrenaline like you're at a Friday walk thru

Since we are still upset over this i thought i would discuss how i would have defended the Chiefs in the last 13 seconds.
The ONE would be an athletic DE or LB to spy on Mahomes and try to bat down the ball if possible and tackle him if takes off. He would be about 3 yard off the ball and i would use DE Greg Rousseau for this spot.
The other TEN guys would be LBs and DBs double covering the 5 offense weapons. One guy would be pressing the Receiver on the line and the other guy 5 yards back and the two would be in man coverage on that one guy. I would have Milano pressing Kelce backed up by a DB. For Hill if hes in the back field then one bumps him when he come through the line and then the two best cover dbs on him.
This would make it very hard for Mahomes to find an open receiver and if he takes off then you have burned a ton clock which is a major goal of this defense along with making it very difficult to complete a pass.
Yep would have rushed 2 and had 9 DBs or even McKenzie on the field as super deep guy just in case. Allows at least 6 guys to play up - which I wouldn't have shown until the last second

Bass took his normal approach and kicked it 7 yards deep, it wasn't execution, it was a decision. Lets stop trying to pretend it was otherwise.
He's going to get asked at some point.
Right?
If he says that was the play then McD just b.s.'d and lied today and threw the ST coaches and Bass under the bus in doing so.
I can't believe he'd do that

Sorry, I’m sure this was already said but I’m pressed for time and can’t read through it all rn.
Who was back there returning the kick?
13 and 45 were the deep men.
Hill was not on the field.
Bass kicked it too far - I just watched it again. I'm pretty convinced he f...ed up

I really need to hear Bass say he kicked it to far.
That will make this a bit easier to take
13 seconds and 3 time outs for Mahomes isn't insanely impossible -
First play get to your 40-45 quick. Have 7 seconds left.
Next pass has to get to the other teams 40 minimum. That's 5 seconds max and enough for a FG with 1-2 seconds left.
That kick had to get returned.

So, are we to believe that no player, Bass nor any of the kick-off team, nor any of the captains didn’t at least ask the special teams Coach or McDermott...”hey, are you sure you don’t want to squib it?”....when every Bills fans watching the game is saying we are going to squib it?
I've been saying this since the McD presser
When does Bass get interviewed?

Everything literally everything about my initial reaction Sunday night was because deep down I know the head coach who I personally love and would run thru a brick wall thru myself......a guy that turned everything around with this franchise and has given us the first Bills team in a generation that is a serious contender; may have not only cost us a once in a lifetime chance at a Super Bowl; he may have squandered all that has been accomplished by committing the most egregious coaching meltdown in history.
A meltdown that cost (for now) Josh Allen and the Bills from becoming THE story in all of sports and Allen as the best QB in the game. The greatest game ever. We had it. I have no comp to what happened. There is none.
Some of that is there......but it's not like what could have been had we won..
Convince me he recovers from this. He may very well lose the locker room (MAY). It's very possible. This choke will impact everything he does; every game plan, every impact call, all of it. And it puts him under a different kind of pressure and spotlight now that I absolutely hate that is there. Even the "all is well don't overreact crowd" knows it.
I'm still at a loss. My hope is the team rallies around it. Does that sound positive enough? But big changes are coming and a real schedule. They better move heaven and earth to get better legit better everywhere this off season. The most important of McDs career.

Which doesn't happen if the kickoff gets fielded.
The fact we don't have an answer now post McDs comments is honestly quite unacceptable
If Bass screwed up no one will care or blame him. He's just the kicker and the D still had to royally f up. I don't buy that we're protecting Tyler Bass by not saying what went wrong or what the call was.
