Before you read on, keep in mind the big picture: The Bills will beat NE (twice) and the Jets and still may go all the way, depending on a number of factors. Let's regroup Wednesday or Thursday, after we've digested this debacle of a game on national TV.

Because I'm afraid that is what it will be. At home with extra days' rest, key players returning, and just feeling the mojo, the Lions will put on a clinic, scoring at will, mixing up lightning scoring strikes with long, demoralizing drives that eat third and fourth downs like candy. Two 100-yard runners, no pass rush, the secondary exposed... the works.

On the other side, with an assigned spy on him all game and a rusty Kincaid and Coleman dropping balls, Allen will look mortal (he's due), throwing at least one pick as he tries to carry the Bills single-handedly. Special teams, with that shining paragon of a coach, Matthew Smiley, will lay an egg, too, just to put a bow on the afternoon. The predictable narrative will follow: America's Team wins, Buffalo exposed, Allen comes down to earth, MVP in question, yada yada. It will be a nightmare.

But after a few days, we'll realize the new reality is actually not bad: the second seed (third at the worst), and a healthy team going into the playoffs on a three-game winning streak. If they go all the way, everyone will look back at this game and see it for what it was: a bump in the road to glory.

    Detroit 53-17.

Or: Goff throws 2 picks, we get a strip sack and the offense continues to be put 30 just like it has all season. Bills 33-24.

This game is so frickin similar to the 1990 game vs the Giants.

The Giants at the time were a completely different identity from buffalo. The Giants were a power running smashmouth football team with a big physical defense. Buffalo was the high flying bills with a great yac wr in Reed, a pro bowl veteran wr acquired the year prior in lofton and a RB in Thomas who could do everything

    Sound familiar?

Also at this time in 1990, buffalo in 88 and 89 was a team that was viewed as somewhat finesse and there was questions if they could get over the hump. Years prior they faded down the stretch. There was real questions if the bills defense could hold up vs the physical giant oline...

Interesting enough buffalo also lost a shootout to moon in Houston a few weeks earlier....

Buffalo won an extremely physical tough game 17-13

More context to that era which is extremely similar possibly, Marino was viewed in the same light as mahomes earlier in the 80s, and Elway was going to super bowls. Marino kinda faded in the second half of his career and Kelly got past him in the 90s. Shula like Reid was also an older coach

I think this game will be very close and I think it's highly probable both meet again in the super bowl

Great call! remember that game well, what a slugfest and gave me confidence going into the SB. Especially given how well we played in the playoffs.

He’s also allowed his fair share of explosive runs.

Joe Marino just said it best:

Maybe it’s time we accept that guys like Oliver, Epenesa, Jones, and Miller are just below average-to-average players with Groot being slightly above average.

I think this is mostly fair, perhaps a bit pessimistic because we're coming off such a bad game (Rousseau played as poorly as I've seen). I mean did Groots girlfriend break up with him or something?

you know, that's a great point.  we lost the turnover battle if you consider a blocked punt a TO (i do) and especially since they just got it back for a TD.  if we only allowed a FG after they got the ball back, we might have won the game with a lead the whole 4th quarter.

If the bills d gets zero TOs, they are trash.  sadly, that's the reality of it.  the good part is russ, lamar, and mahomes love to turn it over.  the bad part is a well oiled on time O like the rams or detroit just exposes everything we lack on D.

I kinda feel like the d and mcd and babbich know the pooped the bed and need to show out next sunday

My hope also is that we show better on defense this week. My worry is we are just flat limited vs real good offenses of this type.

  5. If we can manage to NOT give up a blocked punt for a TD it will be a close game, with a chance to win. The chance to win is Josh Allen and the offense playing as well as they did v Rams; because the defense, even if it plays better will still get gashed.

Both Oliver and Daquan Jones were fine yesterday; the DT's behind them were not (although I would like to see Quinton Jefferson get some more snaps).

Yu want to see a shameful performance? Go watch film of that utterly pathetic effort from Greg Rousseau yesterday, absolutely horrible.

The Bills had far bigger problems in their secondary yesterday than they did up front.

Worst performance I've ever seen him have!

    Fall for what crap? Lmao

Why are you arguing about that?

Ive stated numerous times about having a problem with officiating of the league in this board. That doesn’t mean something can’t be called a penalty because you, me or others believe they should pocket the flag or choke the whistle.

It’s a problem and me pointing out something is a penalty, even though I disagree with them calling it by the other ones they miss through a game shouldn’t be an issue.

Cool Bro, you weren't supporting poor officiating at all-BYE!!

Didnt say they did or did not. By letter of the law it can be called. Whilst I don’t agree with the decision, it’s still a penalty.

Yeah great. You can fall for that crap if you want. I much prefer that referees are consistent and don't allow things for part of the game and then decide not too.

    non optimal game?

The bills spent two offseasons building a bigger more physical offense so that they can win games like they did last year and this game tonight.

All qb's miss throws.  Allen was awesome tonight and ryan vandermark deserves a game ball for hanging in there and not sinking their battleship tonight.

And Romo made sure to mention every missed throw Josh had, what an asshat!
