Al Michaels mentioned the land-on-his-head hit that Beebe took in the playoff game against the Browns. Ouch. I remember that like it was yesterday. Mike

Did this off-duty officer ID himself as an officer? Did he flash a badge? We don't know at this point. My post had more to do with those who are clearly identifiable, I guess. -

So true. Regardless of personal opinions, it's better to keep them silent sometimes. Cleveland lost a police officer last week after a guy shot through his front door at 12 cops who were trying to serve this scumbag a warrant on rape charges. The funeral is today and much of the city is in mourning, but I've heard some idiots call radio talk shows this week and scream about how evil Cleveland cops are. Folks, these people put their lives on the line for us. But we've heard it all before. If you don't want to have a conflict with a police officer, do the following: 1) Don't drive drunk. 2) Don't speed. 3) Don't use drugs. 4) Don't be out at 3:30 in the morning weaving at 90 mph through traffic. As SD Jarhead quoted here earlier, nothing good happens after 1:00 AM. 5) If the above four fail, follow all directions of the police officer. That way, chances are you don't get shot. They do warn you. If you obey the law, you have nothing to worry about. If not, well then, nothing I say will change your mind. Mike -
And that's too bad. I believe Mike Judge is one of the best satirists out there. And like you, I've been waiting a long time for "Idiocracy". My favorite TV show is "King of the Hill", which I think is TV's only true example of satire. There are those who howl that it's nowhere near as good as "Beavis and Butthead", but while B&B had its moments of genius, KOTH is far more consistent and watchable to boot. Mike

Colt McCoy. Great name for a UT quarterback, by the way. Yes, the polls just came out. #1 Ohio State versus #2 Defending Champion Texas. Whoever wins this game could have the inside track to Glendale come January 8. I think OSU's offense is terrific. Troy Smith threw for three TD's and Ginn scored two. In your post regarding the Longhorns' D, it sounds like we may finally have an answer regarding the old question about the irresistible force and the immovable object. But remember, Ohio State ain't North Texas. The Bucks won the Fiesta Bowl last year. Over a highly regarded Notre Dame team, to boot. My concern for the Buckeyes is on defense. I thought they were on the verge of letting UNI back into the game last Saturday. However, they sucked it up and held on well down the stretch. I love the idea of this game so early in the season. Remember, Ohio State came closer than anyone to beating you last year, except for USC. It ruined our title hopes. On our home field. The Buckeyes had never lost a night game at Ohio Stadium until last year. Now it's our turn. On your home field. As I said earlier, Buckeyes prevail, 23-20. da da da da, da da da da GO BUCKS!!! Mike

Can't wait to see the Godzillatron in action Saturday night. There has been a lot of feeling up here in Ohio that if Troy Smith had started the game against Texas last year, the Buckeyes would have won. I wasn't a huge Smith fan at the time, but he really won me over. As for this game, I think you guys will miss Vince Young. A lot. Just remember that when you are at the top, everyone comes gunning for you. That happened with Ohio State in 2003, and in 2004 some in Columbus quietly called for Tressel to be fired. You don't see that now, and you may never see it again. I see an Ohio State victory, but it will be a close game. Call it 23-20 Buckeyes. Ironically, I did not see most of the game last year. I was on my way to Buffalo/Niagara Falls, and only saw the last six minutes of that game. Mike

I did see this. A few years back, Ohio State's jumbotron was the biggest in college football. Now, it looks like a 9" black & white TV compared to that monster you guys have down in Austin. Mike

Great...but the one with Winslow on the motorcycle is still my favorite. "See you in 2006". Mike

Seriously, I saw the movie with my wife, the lovely and talented Kimberly, Saturday before the game. I thought the 70s fashion and music was dead on. The movie was very good...Wahlberg's a good actor, esp. if you get him in 70's pieces, but I thought Greg Kinnear as Dick Vermeil was terrific. And to CGI the old Vet was the piece de resistance. LAMP...3500th post!!!

Terry O'Reilly. He seemed to get thrown out of every fourth game or so. -

Not being harsh...at least I don't mean to be. I've simply repeated the story so many times that I'm sure everybody's tired of hearing it by now. Sorry if I was a little too brusque. Mike -

I think that VT is simply an option b/c they want a veteran around for Frye to learn from. I also believe Frye will be a good QB eventually, but I don't see it happening this year. And from what I saw of the backups, it may not be pretty. I'm still not convinced that Ken Dorsey's arm is right, after hurting it in the waning moments of the Fiesta Bowl when Cie Grant hit it nearly four years ago. He's not an NFL quality QB, even for a backup. The other two guys, Derek Anderson and Lang Campbell, I didn't see enough of to make any judgments. Mike
