  1. I agree that Geno has more "upside", just because his flaws are historically more fixable. He can make all the throws, and has a great release. Accuracy isn't great, but good enough to work with. But, he is brutally bad at reading defenses and makes terrible decisions, and his footwork is a major problem that still looks as bad as when he was drafted.

Although, I really wouldn't want either QB.

  2. Winning games always means something. There are no “meaningless” games for a competitor. If you ever hear an actual professional athlete saying a game is meaningless you are hearing a losers mentality.

I hear that in preseason from players who have won a lot. Teams don't have to care then, they screw season ticket owners and give them no choice but to pay for those games.

Let's say it again: I know that the players, coaches, owners etc... care about these games and need to win and make money. Their primary thought isn't about future years. Mine is.

  3. My simple alignment plan:

2 conferences, 16 teams each, every team plays each other for 15 weeks then leave the other for traditional rivalries. Change the conference teams every year. Have a lottery draft, whatever.

Top 6 teams from each conference makes the playoffs.

I hate divisions, and playing the same teams twice per year. They're completely unnecessary for the NFL today. I want to see the local team play all the talent in the league.

  4. Eagles. I love Chip Kelly's coaching philosophy. It is everything the Bills have lacked for the past 14 years--bold, aggressive, innovative. I don't think the Eagles will go very far this year, but they are going to get better every year as Kelly implements his system with his type of players. I would love to have seen the Bills hire him, but it was never going to happen.

Concurred. Eagles are my 2nd team. How I wish Chip Kelly was here

  5. Thad does seem quick... because his reads are often limited to one side of the field. Same with EJ, it's one read, don't turn your head, and then just don't make a turnover. That's what frustrates me about this offense, although I don't think EJ or Lewis are the "answer", they don't even have the chance to perform at a high level. Everything about Marrone is so painfully conservative, except for the DC he had to hire where he didn't have connections.

  6. He chose a lot of negative plays... but, my concern stands. I like EJ's reading ability, as limited as it may be at this point, and judging by how he speaks, he puts a ton of effort into this. He seems to feel pressure well, although he handles it poorly and gets unnecessarily skittish at times. I think those skills will improve.

But, EJ's accuracy is not adequate for the NFL, at all distances. I don't see how his accuracy will improve. He's been a heralded QB for a decade and thrown a million balls. He's not suddenly going to learn how to throw a football better.

  7. Honestly though, anyone who can't see this team as drastically different than the previous 13 years is just either letting years of frustration cloud their judgement or chronically negative.

They're only different because their defense is very aggressive and fun to watch against inferior lines like Miami, especially compared to Jauron's Cover 2 style.

If it's about working hard and always being in games, etc... then no, I don't see it.

  8. Any chance we see Marcel cut or traded this offseason?

I think it'd be a mistake and its probably a pongshot, but I remember reading a post from someone indicating that possible 'big, unexpected changes' would be made to the roster this offseason, and that they would be due to players not fitting in with Marrone's culture.

I would be furious if it were to happen. You can't cut a young, probowl talent (and rd 1 draft pick). I'm getting frustrated just thinking of the possibility.

    Any thoughts?

Cut, no. Trade, I think it needs to be considered since he's only signed through 14.

I've mentioned it before, I think odds are low Dareus re-signs in Buffalo from what I've heard about him since he was drafted.

  9. Because nobody really cares that they beat the Dolphins. They're a middling team, and Thad didn't do much in either win. Even I, "Bills hater", fully expected them to win with Thad.

Beating the Pats means legitimate hope and change for next year, and if EJ's not a part of that... that's gonna linger.

  10. Manuel will be a "top 10 legit playoff contender" QB at some point: 5%. Under the current staff that babies him: 1%.

Manuel will be a long-term (3+ years) starter in the league: 20%.

Manuel will be a marginal backup within 3 years, but hangs around the league because he's a good guy that looks the part and coaches will stubbornly think they're the one that can fix him: 60%

Manuel will be a Losman type that barely hangs on in the league after Buffalo gives up on him: 20%

  11. No, they're not better. It's not like the Bills have been unlucky, they're a legit boring 6-10 team this year.

Offensively, they're significant worse than Gailey while their defense improved.

They're pretty much at the same level as the Jauron teams. Above average defense, lousy offense, no QB, team that irrationally loves their coach.
