I mean Beane loves his mid round RBs.

Seems like a decent enough player but really is there any difference between what you can get in round 4 and round 6 or 7 these days? They are a dime a dozen.

Don't hate the player but hate the position and the Bills insistence on using mid round picks on RBs.

Agree.  One of the TV guys said he was the best receiver among RB's left so givin our QB, maybe that played into the decision ?

  2. I don't know the answer but with a roster like this, we ought to be winning a few of these games.  That poorly executed fake punt at that point in the game is a red flag on the coaching staff.

I predicted a loss and really hoped to be wrong.

Root for Lamar now.  Wont bother me if the Lions get one either.

I don't think I've ever seen a team go for it on the 7 when a FG or extra point would have tied it.  I think Dan Campbell wasn't thinking straight after the refs botched the first play.

My thoughts exactly.  Everyone here blaming the refs but I wasn't on the field and don't know what transpired with eligibility reporting of the lineman.  The coach went with the lower % option and I'd still call it a bad decision even if they'd made it.  I'm glad Dallas won but if I'm a Lions fan right now I'm livid with that decision.

  4. NE, Great coach, average players.  Bills, pretender coach with great players but a few injuries.  Next win and today is all forgotten. Just like the last 5 million losses.  Time for some KFC but until the Bills find an owner, I'll route against them.

Congrats to the Patriots and Bill Bellichick on win # 300.   Credit where credit is due.

Ok so we lost it at the end and HOW is this all on DORSEY?

Hey gotta blame somebody right ?  Remember when they all used to blame EVERY loss on Daboll ?   Its fun to watch freakout central when they lose. .  When they win next time everyone will say Dorsey called that game like a GENIUS !!.  Just don't blame Josh.  That'll get you banned by the HS forum lawyers here on Algore's amazing internet !!!!

    GO BILLS !!

  6. They'll be fine.  It was better to have that fire lit under their a**** week 1 than just before a playoff run.  Josh is still the same QB. He just had a lackluster game.  Its possible the loss of Brian Daboll is taking its toll on Josh's mental game but that's just a thought on my part.  Josh "being smart" and middle linebacker void/run D are issues needing fixed in my peonic mind. They were too easy to run against in that game. My biggest concern is our "window of opportunity" slowly starting to close.  That huge Allen contract will (and has already) cause us to shed talent. We can't afford to fill holes of need with a contract like that sucking up cap space. So Josh needs to be fixed and play better than before to equalize overall strength of the squad. More players will dash for greener pastures as contracts expire. Cant blame them.  Is Josh capable of that ?  Absolutely.  In the weeks ahead, and maybe even this week against Oakland, the team will play crazy good and everyone will sleep like a baby once again.  Its become a tougher division but I still call 10-7 and a deep run into the playoffs. Enjoy the season everybody.

The thing that really puzzles me is that McDermott and Beane have been here 5 years now and still haven’t developed a running game!! You have to run the football and keeep defenses honest. It opens up everything when you can run the football.

We don’t need to throw money at WR. We need to Invest in the offensive line and show a commitment to running the ball!! We have a RB in Devin Singletary who has career average of 4.7 yards a carry and I feel like his entire tenure here was wasted. Now they about to let him walk out the door and promote James Cook who quite frankly too me is not a 3 down RB.

Find an offensive coordinator who can develop a running game and the production of guys like Gabe Davis, Shakir, Knox will increase. It shame that we have a team that plays in the cold and we can’t run the football.

..................and I would add our defense against the run isn't very good either.  Just like back in the early 90's when the team was decent.

I'm at about 65%. I think the bills are the better team overall, but we've watched them shoot themselves in the foot so many times this season. While I think the bills are fully capable of playing a mistake free game, it's hard to comprehend they will. Being at home is a big advantage (I think).

Right there with ya.  In addition to your point, the Bengals have a good running game which we seem to struggle with at times.  Cincy's OL is banged up hard though.  At the end of the day I see Buffalo as the only team left capable of playing the Eagles tough.  Maybe even beating them.  Its a great year.

The amount of commercials and the length of commercial breaks is so ridiculous at this point, it has killed the game.  An NFL game should never be 4 hours.  You are talking about 1 hour of clock time, and maybe 11 mins of actual game play.

The NFL knows there will be breaks for injuries and reviews, they should not be taking 5 mins commercials after a 1 min drive.  Over and over again, 1 min will come off the clock, and after a punt, there is 5 mins of commercials.

I rarely watch prime time NFL games because I hate all the stoppages.  On Sundays they have red zone and you pretty much avoid this nonsense.

It has become a chore to watch the Bills play exclusively, and at some point, it's just too boring to continue.

At least you have players making over 40 million a year.  Props to the NFL for continuing to increase the cash flow, while selling a worse product.

Couldn't agree more.  100% unwatchable.  Over-produced commercials and high audio volume makes it even worse.  The answer as has been already mentioned is to DVR the game, and join it 1 hour (1:15 for prime time) and FF thru the nonsense.  The game flows this way.  Its how I've watched for the last decade or so.

The NFL is a highly addictive (successful) product despite the idiots that run it.

When it goes to all PPV I'm out.

  10. Glad someone else said this first.  I think it sucks.  It turns a skill position into mass humanity fat guys pushing someone.  Get rid of it.  They will, I'd bet on it.  This Would be a good poll question.  (are there polls on this site ?)

As I watched multiple games on Sunday, it was impossible to ignore.

In game after game, players were stopped by a horde of defenders, only for a group of their teammates to rally to the pile, pushing the whole mass of humanity for an extra 3-7 yards.

When it happens, it looks less like pro football and more like a rugby scrum.

I've been reading a book called How Football Became Football: 150 Years of the Game's Evolution, and in it, I learned that American football used to look a lot like what we've seen recently: huge piles of humanity pushing on each other, fighting for every yard. Basically, it wasn't far removed from rugby when it began. Players even had loops sewn onto their pants for a time for their teammates to grab onto to either push or pull them more easily.

One of the earliest debates in football was how to spread the game out, make it less dangerous, and less of a tedious "three yards and a cloud of dust" affair. These "momentum plays", as they called them, lead to a ton of injuries, and to a frankly ugly, more brutish, less exciting form of football. The ability of a running back or receiver to gain yardage is de-emphasized in favor of the ability of a group of players to push harder than another group of players.

After years of this ugly, rugby-style pile pushing, rule changes in football eventually disallowed it. For most of the history of modern pro football as we know it, pushing or pulling the pile in the manner we have recently seen has not been allowed. In 2006, a rule change made pushing the pile legal again (though pulling is still technically not legal). For whatever reason, it took until this season for it to really become as common and prevalent as it has.

The question is, should it be allowed? Are these big pile-push scrums really American Football? I'm curious to know how other football fans feel about this issue.

In terms of pure stats, I'm sure that Ray Guy's numbers no longer stand out.  But measured against his era, he was indeed the greatest punter ever.

He was taken in the first round, maybe the only punter ever taken in the first round.  He could put the ball wherever you wanted it.  He could hit the coffin corner.  He could get hang time.  He could hit line drives over the return man's head.  He could run, and he could pass.   We all loved Moorman, because he was a weapon.  Ray Guy was a much better weapon.   He was dominant.

Of course, teams scored less and punted more in those days, and punters were more important than they are today.  In the field-position-game that they played back then, he was one of the most valuable players in the league.

Yea man.  I was just a kid but liked the Raiders back then.  He was amazing with his placement of punts.   I Had his football card.  My brother stole my collection which had ALL the great players of the 60's and 70's.

Another punter I always admired was Reggie Robie (sp?).  The Dolphins punter who always knew what time it was !!  (he wore a watch on game days).  It was all leg with Robie as his other foot never left the ground when he launched the missile.

Good times.  RIP Mr Guy.  Thanks for the great memories.

  13. It was hot in Tampa yesterday.  I didn't notice this level of cramping in the GB roster.  This thread is sour grapes.  You have a multi-million organization, professional athletes, a medical staff and maybe they just didn't prepare the roster knowing the obvious......... weather conditions.  What if the Bills had pulled it out ?  What would we be saying then ?  This team is superb no matter the weather ?  Probably.  They got beat.  It happens.  They're 2-1 and in a week or two this will all be forgotten.
