  1. If we have a good plan to spend serious money to improve the Oline, and there's enough left over then I hope we keep CJ.

If we're going to battle next year with the same guards we had this year, then we don't need CJ and he won't want us anyway.

If there's good run blocking upfront there's nobody I'd rather have running for us.

so no ones better than cj as long as our guards are good? i can think of about 10 rbs id rather have, some dont even fumble or lose 4 yards a carry 3-4 times a game.

  2.

Shazier took a running knee to the guy, he didn't "barely bump into him" at all. In fact, many on here (including myself) commented at the time -- and to this day -- that it looked like a cheap shot that Shazier felt was payback for the Orange Bowl where Watkins absolutely abused him. That highlight, of Watkins plastering Shazier, ran on every pre-draft clip of Watkins aired in the run up to the draft. I think it probably got in Shazier's head a bit and he took it out the first moment he could.

Of course that's speculation, but the amount of force delivered in that play wasn't nothing. It just wasn't a football play -- it was a WWE play.

ok i didnt see any replays. but at least you see how sammy plays deep balls like a db. it makes me really pissed, and the lions catchthat lead to a win was one were he wussed out instanly dropping down in front of the contact, we kicked a 60 yard fg i think. that play should have gained another 5-10 yards.

  3. Nothing wrong with CJ Spiller if he's used correctly and gets some decent blocking. Unfortunately Marrone could provide him with neither.

I'd love to have him back at the right price. Watkins, Spiller and Manuel could provide some real serious misdirection problems with the right play calls. I'd like to keep him a grab an offensive lineman with that 50th pick.

yes there is, hes dumb, uninstinctive, a fumbler, undersized, not as fast as he was advertised. spiller sucks, anyone can see that.

  4. The only way to fix the imbalance between the teams WITH franchise QBs and the teams WITHOUT franchise QBs is to change the rules to benefit defense and de-emphasize the passing game.

Teams like Seattle have proven that you can still win a superbowl with dominant defense and a strong running game in todays NFL, but its a very hard thing to do. Also, you can make an argument that Russel Wilson is the most underrated QB in the league and very much in the conversation for top 5 at his position.

Jamal Lewis with Baltimore, Deangelo and J Stew in Carolina, Jamal Charles in KC, Willie Parker and Jerome Bettis in Pitt, Fred Taylor and MJD in Jax, Chris Johnson in Tennessee.....these are all examples of teams that made it to the playoffs behind a strong running game. The problem is its hard to be a consistent rushing team year after year due to injury and the physical nature of such an attack. Defenses change every year based on turnovers they force and a lot of stats are situational.

The only way to remain consistently good is to have a franchise QB with a strong passing attack. A QB can barely be touched in todays NFL and is much less likely to be injured.

I agree, the difficulty in finding a franchise QB makes the NFL uncompetive. The AFC has had the patriots go to 4 straight championship games in a row. New England, Baltmore, Pittsburgh, Denver, Indy....these are the only teams that have gone to the superbowl in the AFC this century.

    My proposed changes:

-Illegal contact should not be an automatic first down. It should be a 5 yard penalty and replay of down. No more 3rd and 16 illegal contact first downs.

-Pass interference inside of 5 yardline should result in a first and goal the 5 yardline. No more terrible calls resulting in 1st and goal on the 1 for a gimme touchdown. Reset to the 5, Defense still has a chance.

-Narrow goal posts by 4 feet

-Allow defenses to return blocked extra points or two point conversions for points the other way

    -Safety counts as a touchdown

-Move kickoffs back to their original location so kickoff special teams becomes important again (Devin Hester helped bring Rex Grossman to a superbowl)

i ilke all of these,,except safety for a td??? wtf?

  5. He gets called for A LOT more penalties than he is worth. The guy is good for at least one dumb penalty a game, and for someone who provides so little elsewhere I cant believe his roster spot remained. Im sorry OP but he is just terrible. I hope Kirby is right that he isnt on the roster because that means we will upgraded TE just ever so slightly.

i say a. williams gets called for the most dumb penalties a game, id whip him around more.

  6. for a guy whose "specialties" were supposed to be O-line and "offensive creativity"

marrone gave us the worst o-line in years with only a lucky pick of seantrel by whaley saving us from disaster. Wood and glenn regressed, urbik got benched due to morrones attitude. Our running game became a joke for 2 years (ypc).

Offense was as bad as ever save some big plays from orton woods and watkins we would have been dead last this year (whaley guys).

what was good at 1bd??? defense. Special teams. and some good free agents, the things morrone had next to nothing to do w, including drafting the players there.

If you want to judge morrones ability, look at his 4rth down logic.... punting on 4rth and 1 in the 40's down by two scores, but then going for it on 4rth and long when within FG range, then going for it on 4rth and long in your own 20's. MORON!

  7. marrone is a joke now that i think about it. His "specialties" were supposed to be O-line and "offensive creativity"

  8. polians old news, its like bringing back levy or wanstach, i like what the coach in san diego did. I like reich, i like new, young coaches who arent idiots, like marrone was at times, And surely Hackett is. New coaches can win in the nfl, we just have to hire a good one. Not a good ole boy of the coaching fraternity like Wade philips was, or how marrone didnt fire hackett or crossman after a horrible year. Screw Marrone, he was a quitter and in it for himself all along. Please can we just get a young guy with a brain this time?!

  9. I think he pulled a gun on his dad but that had nothing to do with why he was cut. He couldn't run patterns or hang onto the football very well.

He did, however, set the stage and precedent for the Marrone/Hackett strategy still used to this day. We drafted Hardy because he was tall and was a red zone threat in college, and could jump up and catch fade patterns in the redzone/endzone. In his first game, against the Jaguars, late in the fourth quarter we did just that, he leapt up high, caught the ball, got both feet in bounds and won the game on a great catch in the corner of the endzone.

So we promptly never threw it to him like that again the rest of his career.

"Why should they call that play again?" claimed Doug and Nate, "It worked. Other teams will be expecting it."

we threw about 10 more jump balls to him throughout that season. he would fight them all off as best he could until they hit the ground, he caught one more in garbage time and then we all realized he just plain couldnt catch. the Jville catch was also laboured if you watch the replay, he almost dropped that one too.
  10. I expect him to have a big season on his new team next season.

spiller didnt get any dumber because of morrone, he was already dumb. Dumb players make dumb plays and spiller isnt getting any faster either. He was a "bust" his first season and a half, then looked "great" for a season and a half, and has now looked worse than ever for 2 straight seasons. Hes also fragile. Good luck to him but glad hes leaving. i wont miss his lack of awareness, ball skills, fumbles, bad blocks, injuries and runs for -3. will you?
  11. According to my analytics...ignoring tie breakers heres what would get us in and who you should root for ( or use voodoo against ) the last two weeks.

Granted we win our last 2

KC loses to SD next week =out at 9-7

SD loses to SF week 17 =out at 9/7 (if they lose in denver today)

Pitt Loses out to both KC and Cin or wins both =out at 9/7 or div leader

Cin loses out to both Denv and Pitt= out at 9 wins

Balt loses out to clev & Hou = were in or can win out as long as Cinc/Pitt loses out

    plan for next week...

Sat root for SF over SD!!!

    Sun watch pitt/kc

    a. if pitt wins ....root against cinc in the sun night game!

    b. root for balt to lose!

    week 17

    a. (Pitt won week16) root for pitt over cinc

    b. (Pitt lost week 16) root for SD over KC

    c. root for balt to lose!

Go easy on the wings and tanqueray, this ride could go from Sat night 24 hours straight thru to sun Night

  12. i broke this down (in my head) ignoring tie breakers heres what would get us in and who you should root for ( or use voodoo against ) in the last two weeks.

Granted we win our last 2 we need these teams to lose the following games.....

KC loses to SD next week =out at 9-7

SD loses to SF week 17 =out at 9/7 (if they lose in denver today)

  13. nice to see the refs not giving away possessions to the other team for once. Rogers should have had anywhere from 4-6 picks thats how many hit our dbs hands or got deflected high into the air. The refs probably thought GB has the playoffs sealed so they didnt need to help the other team on our home field....had it been in GB we would have lost like we did in Denver.

  14. 1) Defense shut down 2 HOF QB's in back to back games. Can they do it Brady now?

    2) Special teams have come a long way since last year

    3) Thanks Jordy :) That was a huge drop.

    4) I thought Gilmore's blown pick 6 was going to come back to haunt us.

    5) Orton, EJ, what's the difference? Neither one is worth $%^! on a rotten log right now.

    6) I think Thigpen has nailed down the return duties.

    7) Rambo to the rescue

    8) Like it or not, Marrone will rightfully remain as coach (he owes Jim Schwartz big time).

    9) Can we run the table despite the QB situation?

    10) Thank goodness for Dan Carpenter. How many times has he outscored the offense?

agree on most , good post,

    heres what else

1.thigpin cost us a late second quarter drive and other potential scores by NOT CATCHING the F ing punts! Its football 101, field the punt! we even lost more yardage after 2 GB penalties in a row, ya he got a TD, but he needs to catch the F ing PUNTS!

2.We actually got lucky on a few no-call PI's i thought after about 5 plays actually id see a flag. Finally we see how a game can go without referee caused turn overs.!

3.Sammy caught a nice ball but then lost another 50/50 jump ball. He tried to pat it down but i wish hed out body the DB for once, he out weighs all of them.

    4. Orton has turned almost into trent edwards, throwing 5 yard passes on nearly all 3rd downs, no matter the yardage.

  15. "Gives up on game day passes"?!

    uh No.

UH yes!, did you miss half the games webster? Its funny how people already blame the qb. The balls that hit watkins hands and fell to the ground were his fault, not the qb's He has given up/one handed/ not gone up for several balls this season. He should have at least 10 more catches and we could have one more win (houston) if he makes them. Yes he was a stud in a few games, he was great last game minus the fumble. (he actually fought for a couple catches) He is a true 1, but he is a primadonna so far and his showboating in new york was proof. He is probably protecting his ribs so he wasnt fighting for extra yards either, he went down before contact on several plays. All this being said he has good talent, so so effort/heart. since effort and heart can change i give him a 7/10 with the room to grow into an 8 or 9. He will never be a 10 imo.
  16. He was flat out awesome from game 4 (Houston) through game 8 (first Jets game). Then he got hurt. It happens -- it's an occupational hazard of the NFL. The fact that he didn't catch much against Houston doesn't mean that he didn't play well -- the qb was horribly inaccurate and missed him constantly.

in houston he really didnt do crap...except getting ej benched. he one handed and "patted down" a couple decent passes. Dropped a long one whel being marginally covered. Problem is sammy WONT come back for a ball. EVER! He simply paws it out of the air. He also goes down at the slightest hint of contact. He is playing scared. Most all his catches are on open/deep balls caught past the defense. even the nice catch and run in new york was a slant that he snuck under a tackle and the safety totally wiffed. Regardless his houston stats sucked i can say without even looking.

Cute, but reeks of a guy that doesn't watch the game. Sammy was targeted 9 times, not thrown to...massive difference. Targeted means the QB meant to throw it to him...if Sammy is targeted with a pass that lands 9 feet away from him on a back shoulder throw, I'm going to blame the QB, not the WR.

Right now, the QB play is awful, and it's diminishing the impact of our best WR. It's not hard to see at all.

im not sure youre right about targeted/thrown to definition. Either way, how does it matter? Sammy one hands a lot of balls rather than come back for them. he drops contested balls that are thrown to him, and he drops down before any real contact is made. He i think is protecting his ribs but oh well, put mike williams or hogan in until hes ready to go 100%
